Honey Lemon Tea and Lemons

By | Health and Fitness, Yummy! | No Comments

Det served us this yummy honey lemon tea which is supposedly good for digestion and for cough and cold

honey-lemon-tea-01.jpg

I guess you can either make it fresh or buy the ones that come in bottles.  Det got hers from a Korean store and it comes like a jam and you scoop a teaspoon or two and add to hot water

Det got hers here off Burgos Circle – I went to visit to buy some for the house

They did not have stock of the Honey lemon, but they had honey ginger which is like salabat 🙂

Benefits Of Drinking Warm Lemon Water

Start the day out with a mug of warm water and the juice of half a lemon.

It’s so simple and the benefits are just too good to ignore. Warm water with lemon:

1. Boosts you’re immune system

Lemons are high in Vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C is great for fighting colds and potassium stimulates brain & nerve function and helps control blood pressure.

2. Balances pH

Lemons are an incredibly alkaline food, believe it or not. Yes, they are acidic on their own, but inside our bodies they’re alkaline (the citric acid does not createacidity in the body once metabolized). As you wellness warriors know, an alkaline body is really the key to good health.

3. Helps with weight loss

Lemons are high in pectin fiber, which helps fight hunger cravings. It also has been shown that people who maintain a more alkaline diet lose weight faster. And, my experience is that when I start the day off right, it’s easier to make the best choices for myself the rest of the day.

4. Aids digestion

The warm water serves to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and peristalsis?he waves of muscle contractions within the intestinal walls that keep things moving. Lemons and limes are also high in minerals and vitamins and help loosen ama, or toxins, in the digestive tract.

5. Acts as a gentle, natural diuretic

Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials because lemons increase the rate of urination in the body. Toxins are, therefore, released at a faster rate which helps keep your urinary tract healthy.

6. Clears skin

The vitamin C helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes. Lemon water purges toxins from the blood which helps keep skin clear as well.

7. Hydrates the lymph system —

FREEZING LEMONS – WHO KNEW

5723_10200533216751227_716256958_n.jpg

Amazing frozen lemons. All it is…..is a frozen lemon.

Many professionals in restaurants and eateries are using or consuming the entire lemon and nothing is wasted. How can you use the whole lemon without waste?

Simple.. place the washed lemon in the freezer section of your refrigerator. Once the lemon is frozen, get your grater, and shred the whole lemon (no need to peel it) and sprinkle it on top of your foods.

Sprinkle it to your vegetable salad, ice cream, soup, cereals, noodles, spaghetti sauce, rice, sushi, fish dishes, whisky…. the list is endless.

All of the foods will unexpectedly have a wonderful taste, something that you may have never tasted before. Most likely, you only think of lemon juice and vitamin C. Not anymore.

Now that you’ve learned this lemon secret, you can use lemon even in instant cup noodles.

What’s the major advantage of using the whole lemon other than preventing waste and adding new taste to your dishes?

Well, you see lemon peels contain as much as 5 to 10 times more vitamins than the lemon juice itself. And yes, that’s what you’ve been wasting.

But from now on, by following this simple procedure of freezing the whole lemon, then grating it on top of your dishes, you can consume all of those nutrients and get even healthier.

It’s also good that lemon peels are health rejuvenators in eradicating toxic elements in the body.

So place your washed lemon in your freezer, and then grate it on your meal every day. It is a key to make your foods tastier and you get to live healthier and longer! That’s the lemon secret! Better late than never, right? The surprising benefits of lemon! Lemon (Citrus) is a miraculous product to kill cancer cells. It is 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy.

Why do we not know about that? Because there are laboratories interested in making a synthetic version that will bring them huge profits.

You can now help a friend in need by letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in preventing the disease. Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the horrific effects of chemotherapy.

How many people will die while this closely guarded secret is kept, so as not to jeopardize the beneficial multimillionaires large corporations?

As you know, the lemon tree is known for its varieties of lemons and limes.

You can eat the fruit in different ways: you can eat the pulp, juice press, prepare drinks, sorbets, pastries, etc. It is credited with many virtues, but the most interesting is the effect it produces on cysts and tumors.

This plant is a proven remedy against cancers of all types. Some say it is very useful in all variants of cancer. It is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms, it regulates blood pressure which is too high and an antidepressant, combats stress and nervous disorders.

The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970, the extracts revealed that It destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreas. The compounds of this tree showed 10,000 times better than the product Adriamycin, a drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world, slowing the growth of cancer cells.

And what is even more astonishing: this type of therapy with lemon extract only destroys malignant cancer cells and it does not affect healthy cells.

So, give those lemons a good wash, freeze them and grate them. Your whole body will love you for it!!!!!

By | Giving Back, Health and Fitness, Sports | No Comments

Congratulations once again to the Condura team headed by Ton Concepcion! Heart2Heart likes it that this year – many charity foundations were helped.  Thank you to everyone who helped make this a successful marathon!

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, February 2013 – A record-shattering marathon event was held at the stroke of midnight on Sunday, February 3 as 14,000 runners took to the Skyway to participate in the premier running event of the country, the Condura Skyway Marathon 2013, Run for the Mangroves. Braving the chilly midnight weather, runners excitedly laced-up and grabbed this once-a-year opportunity to turn the Skyway as their playground.

biggest-marathon.jpg

This year’s instalment recorded the biggest growth of 42k runners to 2,650,  which is deemed as the biggest marathon event to date in the Philippines.

 tc-with-mrborromeo.jpg

The beautiful experience of running on the premiere tollway lured runners from as far Europe, Africa, the United States and neighboring Asian countries.  There were also a good number of running contingents flying in from other regions of the Philippines just to be able to experience running on the Skyway.

“Our vision is to make Condura Skyway Marathon the premier running event in the Asia Pacific that will attract more tourists, promote health and of course save the environment.  This is our own little way of helping promote the country as an exciting eco-sports tourism destination.  RUNNING IS TRULY MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES.” shares Ton Concepcion, Founder and Chief Organizing Officer of Condura Skyway Marathon

This annual event is more than a run.  It is a show.  Organizers make it a point to bring something new to the table year after year so runners have something to look forward to.

Accompanied with a spectacular fireworks display, runners from all race categories were brought to the Skyway armed with the energy and determination not just to conquer the challenging race course but also to “RUN FOR GOOD”.  For with each step and each stride towards the finish line,  the runners knew in their hearts that they have taken a great part in making a difference.   An additional 42,000 mangrove seedlings to the 39,000 of last year will be planted in Kabasalan town of Zamboanga de Sibugay. On top of this donation to help build a Mangrove forest, runners were encouraged to make an even greater difference via adopting a particular charity and generate pledges for it.  The participating charities are Hero Foundation, ICan Serve Foundation,  Bikes for Philippines and Liter of Light Foundation.

“Our aim is to encourage runners to embrace more causes to better the lives of those in need.  We want to help these foundations raise funds so they can continue on with their respective programs and activities. We want to help in making the country a better place – one step at a time,”  says Ton Concepcion.

How To Stay Well During Virus Season

By | Health and Fitness | One Comment

There are so many people getting sick nowadays!! I put together here some advice from different sources.  Everyone try to stay healthy and keep your immune system strong

This was from Tito Rico- He stresses EATING AND DRINKING LIKE A SMART PERSON

Flu, Colds, and Other Bugs: How to Stay Well During Virus Season

By Mehmet C. Oz, MD, and Michael F. Roizen, MD

Busted! We admit it: We can be manic about shooing people home at the first snuffle or sneeze, even if they swear they feel well enough to work. Fine; work from home. Just don’t spread that virus.

Part of it is selfish. We don’t want to catch a bug or see half of the staff get it. Part of it is on your behalf. The more often you come to work sick, the more likely you are to get really wiped out down the road.

The evidence behind this: Researchers (love their nitty-gritty brains) have figured out that if you come to work sick at least six times during 12 months, you’re 50% more likely to be out for weeks within the next 18 months. Why? They think that when your body never gets a chance to completely recuperate, you get more and more run down. Eventually, your immune system cracks, and the next little illness spells big trouble.

What if you can’t afford to be sick? Follow our six basic YOU Docs rules for boosting your immunity. They’ll help you stay well in the first place.

1.                   Get enough ZZZs. You need 7 1/2 to 8 hours of shuteye. Every night!

2.                   Get enough vitamin D3. Take 1,000 IU a day; 1,200 after age 60.

3.                   Get your ahhhs. Both periods of big stress (e.g., the holidays) and quick hits (e.g., parking rage) take a toll. Carve out 10 minutes a day for meditation, deep breathing, and serene stretching. Don’t let stress get the best of you.

4.                   Walk. It keeps your body humming and your head clear.

5.                   Eat and drink like a smart person.

6.                   Wash your hands. Scrub 100 times a day. Okay, 150.

You know the type. Everyone else is dropping like flies from the latest bug, but there’s that one person who never seems fazed by it.

Know what her secret is? Look under her desk. You’ll probably see a pair of walking shoes at the ready. A new study revealed that people who exercise regularly experience shorter, less severe cold symptoms compared with sedentary folks.

Sweating Away Colds

The study followed about 1,000 adults for a 12-week period during either the fall or the winter cold-catching season, comparing their health to their fitness track record. And analyses showed that the people who broke a sweat for 20 minutes at least five times a week spent 43 percent less time being sick compared with the exercise slackers. The active folks’ cold symptoms also tended to be about a third less severe.

Buffed-Up Immunity

How does a good sweat make people more immune to colds? It’s all about aerobic exercise. This type of exercise seems to ramp up blood levels of neutrophils and natural killer cells, two cell types critical to immune system operations. In fact, a single bout of aerobic exercise can boost immunity for hours, making your body better guarded and more resilient. So keep those walking shoes handy. And try these other strategies for shrugging off colds:

Brew yourself a cup of hot tea. Sure, it’s a psychological comfort. But studies show it might provide much more than that when it comes to soothing your symptoms.

A Cuppa Cold Relief

In a small study, drinking a hot, fruit-flavored beverage seemed to offer wider-ranging cold and flu relief than sipping a room-temperature drink did. Specifically, sore throats were better soothed, and fatigue and chills were kept more effectively at bay. So follow doctor’s orders and keep the liquids coming — just warm them up first. Know how to tell a cold from the flu? Take this quick quiz to become an expert.

How Heat Heals

Researchers suspect that it was the taste, smell, and temperature of the drink that did the trick, with the heat being particularly helpful at stimulating the production of throat-soothing saliva and mucus. Although it’s possible that there was also some placebo effect in drinking a warm, fruit-flavored beverage.

Take less sick time this year. Follow these tips for keeping the colds away:

·                       Go natural. The YOU Docs have a long list of natural ways to boost your immunity.

·                       Be happy. Find out how you can stave off sickness with the right state of mind.

Go to bed. Even just 1 lost hour of sleep may set you up for sniffles.
