Getting Organized by Mel

By | Household Tips | 4 Comments

Not only is Mel a creative interior decorator, she is also an organized Mom and housewife!  Everything in her house is in place!!! I admire people like that, because we all know how hard it is to keep everything organized and tidy!  Mel told me that she really makes sure she keeps everything neat and she loves doing it 🙂

Bringing Along My Comforter and Pillows

By | Household Tips, Travel | One Comment

Everytime we go on out of town trips, if I can bring with me my comforter and pillows, I take them along with me.  It helps me adjust and be more comfortable in a bed that is not our usual

I love this big fabric chest that my cousin, Ana, gave me a few years back.  I use it to store my extra comforter and when we are going to travel, I just pull it out and bring it along in the car.  I love it!  I need one more for my pillows,  for now they go into a disposable garbage bag 🙂comforter.JPG

Packing Up

By | Household Tips | 3 Comments

In a month or so, we will be moving to a new home.  If there are people who procrastinate, I am the exact opposite!  I always like to do things ahead and plan in advance so that when the time comes, I am not rushing or panicking to get things done.  Is there are term for those type of people?  🙂

About  a month ago, I started packing up already in preparation for the move.  I asked around for empty boxes so I can put all my things inside.

packing-up-03.jpg

I took this time to also go through all my things and clean up things I do not need.  Even though I do this throughout the year and try to avoid accumulating things I do not need, I always end up with so many things!  but by cleaning up I eliminate the number of things I need to transfer right?  I tackled this by starting by room or by part of the house, so the kitchen was the first.  I had my staff bring out everything and lay the things all on top of the dining table so I can see everything with one glance.  If I spot something that I have not used in a year that means I do not need the item so I either:

*** Give it to a friend or family who may want it

*** Give it to my staff or donate it

*** Or just dispose

I was not able to take a photo of the kitchen stuff on top of the table anymore.  This photo is a photo of the things from my drawers in the room. When I have time, I schedule an area to tackle, so kitchen, then another day I did the pantry, then the living room, then the room drawers.  That way I am not pressured to finish so many things all at once

1.)  The staff lays it out on the table

2.)  I look at it and check it

3.)  Then I tell them to pack it

packing-up-05.jpg

Each box has to be marked depending on what room it will go to in the new house.  So when it gets there, they know where to drop the box.  I feel it is more organized and more efficient this way and I do not have to be present when they do the transferring and unloading.  I don’t use any sophisticated labels or boxes.  I also just tell my staff what to do so they are the ones packing and writing everything on the boxes

packing-up-02.jpg

The house is a bit messy now with all the boxes, but it is organized chaos in a way that all the boxes are all sorted by room in each corner of the house. 🙂  After I pack, I plan to list down the number of boxes per room just so I have an inventory and can make sure I get the same number of boxes in the other house

packing-up-01.jpg

I bought these clothes hanger from Shopwise worth p 400 plus and I will just hang our clothes here and transfer it in these hangers – that way we do not have to remove, fold, then hang again.  Just hang and then transfer then hang 🙂

packing-up-04.jpg

After I had done all this, my husband tells me that I should have just hired movers to do it for me…..Huh? thanks for telling me! 🙂  But then again, I want to do it myself so it is a chance for me to see all the things we have.  I am trying to minimize the things, after all, it’s like we are starting anew.

This is my first time to really move to another house so i do not know if I am doing this correctly, if you have other tips or suggestions, I would highly appreciate it …. or else, WISH ME LUCK! 🙂

Thanks Ginge for sharing your article, I am sure this is still applicable even if it is several years ago

25 Mushrooms Kitchen June to August 2011

By | Household Tips, Recipes, Workshops | 4 Comments

Javier ( Previous entries:  Chef Javs Feb 27, 2010 and Chef Javs Part 2 Jan 27, 2011) has attended already two classes at 25 Mushrooms Kitchen and he really learned a lot and is enjoying it.  It’s s hard to find cooking classes when it is not summertime so I enrolled him at 25 Mushrooms.  Sari told me that the class is taught in Filipino, and the more I liked it so Javier will learn to speak and practice his Filipino.  He also has two classmates that are kids.  Javier cannot stop talking about it and after ever session, he gets so excited and cooks something for dinner from what he learned that day. I am so happy he is busy every Tuesday and Thursday

Heart2Heart is so happy to have bumped into the owner Sari in an event. I keep featuring 25 Mushrooms Kitchen and hearing about it, but never met the one behind it.  She is so pretty and so young.   More power to you Sari and I hope you will continue to do this forever!

Make Room For Exceptional Homemakers

By | Household Tips, What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

Aside from their successful careers, these three beautiful and admirable women manage to achieve a balance between work and family while becoming outstanding homemakers. Active social and civic worker Angela Arroyo, famed model turned jewelry designer Tweetie De Leon-Gonzales and fashion buyer Katrina Tantoco-Lobregat all exude effortless grace while juggling their professional and personal commitments.

While husband Pampanga Representative Mikey Arroyo is busy at work, Angela Montenegro-Arroyo takes on the equally challenging responsibility of being a devoted homemaker. At home, Angela ensures that everything is done neatly and orderly. She shares, “I give each house help a task to do, assign which area they are in charge of and ensure that they have done their work right. “ However, she leaves house designing to herself. “I love to decorate and arrange things at home,” she continues. “I like Asian inspired pieces like Thai and Chinese decorations and accents.”

 33919_158034660883294_100000302838002_382616_999510_n.jpg

She firmly believes that spending quality time with her two daughters is important and that being there to raise her children and run the household are the hardest of all professions. Angela shares her secret to maintaining a happy family despite their busy schedules. “We make it a point to always spend time as a family whether we’re just at home, eating out or travelling together.”

64994_158034744216619_100000302838002_382617_3542178_n.jpg

Angela’s Organizing Tips:

1. Label and store items orderly.

64994_158034774216616_100000302838002_382626_4855366_n.jpg

2. Set aside what you don’t need or use anymore.

3. Always keep things and surroundings neat.

33691_158034834216610_100000302838002_382631_1764907_n.jpg64994_158034764216617_100000302838002_382623_6430611_n.jpg

4. Schedule a day to organize and check all the things inside the house or your bag to see which are still useful for you and those are good to go either trash, donate, or yard sale.

Supermodel and jewelry designer Tweetie De Leon-Gonzales could not agree more. Even if Tweetie and husband Mon are busy with work, they spend as much time as they can with their five children. “My kids always look forward to going out as a family. We usually go out of town for the day or just hangout around the house and do barbecue or swimming.” With one daughter and four sons, Tweetie always finds a reason to clean their house. The mother of five is meticulous in keeping their abode clean and homey. She avoids mediocrity and believes that “if you’re doing something, might as well do it right and do it well.”

64994_158034747549952_100000302838002_382618_4532228_n.jpg

She expounds, “More than anything, I like being neat and orderly—from my bag to my notebooks to my fashion sense. When I get dressed, I like to look clean and polished.” This mantra is clearly reflected on the organized lifestyle that Tweetie leads.

 64994_158034750883285_100000302838002_382619_4727209_n.jpg

Tweetie’s Organizing Tips:

1. Organize your belongings according to their use. ex. clothes-for workouts, for casual Fridays, for dressy events, for rainy days, for PTA meetings; for school and office supplies-for cutting, for marking, for binding, for artworks, for labeling, for printing; for note cards-casual, formal, kiddie, etc..

33691_158034830883277_100000302838002_382630_8359204_n.jpg

2. Always keep a record book of items that go inside the storage cabinet and/or storage bins. Cross out entries that have been pulled out to keep the inventory updated.

3. Label, label, label!!!

4. I like using the same storage aids per area (in kind, size and color) for a more organized, neater arrangement.33691_158034824216611_100000302838002_382628_766774_n.jpg

Rustan’s fashion buyer and curator for ladies and young adults Katrina Tantoco-Lobregat says time management plays a crucial role in fulfilling her responsibilities. Even if most of her day is spent at work, she never fails to set aside quality time for husband Paolo and son Xevi. “One of my most favorite things that we do is having mini-concerts at home. We play instruments and sing along to our favorite tunes while pretending to be in front of a huge audience.”

Katrina’s talents extend beyond her rock-star potential. While maintaining good energy between her family and the staff, she also knows how to keep her household organized by making lists and schedules for everyone. “I have a step-by-step ‘how to clean’ guide all over the house for our helps. It’s a bit over the top but it helps everyone in our home as I am typically in the office all day.”

 64994_158034754216618_100000302838002_382620_2029893_n.jpg64994_158034757549951_100000302838002_382621_165695_n.jpg

As an icon of style, Katrina mixes up things from fabrics to textures to colors. She prefers a home that is relaxing and easy on the eye and body while mixing in hints of glamour. “The most important thing is that my home should be an escape from anything hectic and stressful.” says this Power Mom.

Katrina’s Organizing Tips:

1. Avoid delaying chores. Fix clutter and tidy up immediately.

2. Buy items for organizing like magazine boxes, nice baskets, paper trays, multipurpose containers that are functional and pleasant to look at at the same time.

33691_158034820883278_100000302838002_382627_3282950_n.jpg

3. Allot a place for everything so you know where your stuff is stored when you need it, as they say, “a place for everything and everything in its place.”

64994_158034760883284_100000302838002_382622_2731904_n.jpg

4. To easily locate your stored items always label the outside of the box with all the things that is in it.
