Congratulations Olivia Limpe Aw on the launch of Manille Liqueur de Dalandan. You are amazing! And so nice to know that a friend’s idea came to life – Gaita apparently suggested to do citrus flavors – so after Olive launched Calamansi, now Dalandan and Gaita says maybe Pomelo. Not only is it a good product, it helps farmers in our country. And because Olive goes straight to the farmers, the farmers are able to get better profit ( compared to having the usual 8 middlemen leaving them with less than 10% of the cost.) Thank you Olive and Gaita
“Manille Liqueur de Dalandan is the only liquor in the world that utilized the essential oils of the fruit [dalandan] and captures the sweet zesty profile of dalandan,” says Olivia Limpe-Aw, President and CEO of Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc. She adds that the company’s Philippine Craft Spirits line was made out of the need to create something uniquely local. “I saw the limited use of the crops we had here…I wanted to show everyone that with proper research, the right materials and most importantly, drive and passion, we can find a way to be advocates of our own produce,” follows Limpe-Aw.
This ties in perfectly with Margarita Forés and her active support of local farmers and championing our local produce all over the world. “I’ve had the honor in recent years to be able to present Filipino cuisine and products abroad. And being able to showcase the best in our country, has always made me proud,” she adds that, “Having encountered products like Manille Liqueur de Calamansi and now Manille Liqueur de Dalandan, I think that it has brought this advocacy of mine full circle.”
Manille Liqueur de Dalandan also does its part in joining this support of local farmers by paying them the market price of dalandan. By cutting out the traders, the farmers get 100% of the profits from dealing with the company. “It’s sort of a CSR effort for our company… this increases every farmer’s margins a great deal.”
Destilera Limtuaco & Co., Inc. together with Brand Ambassador Margarita Forés officially launched the second variant of the company’s Manille Liqueur collection – Manille Liqueur de Dalandan.
Held in the Grace Park, Margarita Forés’ very own farm-to-table concept restaurant, guests were treated to an exclusive menu utilizing Manille Liqueur de Dalandan as well as the dalandan fruit, itself.
Nothing goes to waste at Disteleria Limtuaco – since they only use the rind for the liqueur they thought of making something out of the fruit. SOAP!
As part of the company’s thrust to help preserve the environment and reduce its carbon footprint, Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc. has decided to convert their post processing, calamansi and dalandan rind, fruit and seeds into a by-product: a natural ingredient which is called calamansi and dalandan mud that is filled with so many complex substances. Such natural ingredients find useful applications in the cosmetics and personal care industry.
During the launch of its product, Manille Liqueur de Dalandan, Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc. also launched their line of soaps, “Si” Handcrafted Calamansi and Dalandan Face and Body Soap. Both the natural ingredient calamansi and dalandan mud and the finished soap products have great export potential.Handmade soaps using natural food and drink ingredients are now quite a popular trend abroad. The soap itself carries a lot of the cosmetic advantages of calamansi such as its whitening, antiseptic and anti?acne properties.
Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc. has tapped the expertise of Dr. Rainier B. Villanueva, President & CEO of Rainiers Research & Development Institute, Inc. to develop the soap product and he is currently working on more product applications. According to Dr. Villanueva: “this is indeed a versatile natural ingredient which has very strong export potential. We are currently in talks with companies abroad who have expressed strong interest in our calamansi and dalandan mud. There is a trend towards using natural ingredients and Destileria Limtuaco comes just in the right time with the right product. It is definitely an exciting time for us at Rainiers Research & Development Institute to have the access to such promising ingredients that allow us to come up with superior personal care products.“
Dr. Rainier Villanueva is a Neurosurgeon by profession who found his calling in the concoction of formulations using different local herbs under strict clinical parameters. This has led to a prolific 70–product line extensively using plants and minerals endemic to the Philippines. He developed Rainiers Research & Development Institute in 1988 and this has since become one of the pioneers and leaders in the field of herbal cosmetics in the country. With the addition of Destileria Limtuaco’s calamansi and dalandan mud, he says: “we can now expand our product offering which will better address the needs of our discriminating personal care clientele who are continuously on the look out for better, more natural and more effective products.”
