Tumalog Falls Oslob

By | Nature, Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel | No Comments

From the whale shark, you have to go to Tumalog Falls!  It’s only a few minutes away.  Bluewater provided the vans for our group to take us there.  WOW!! Just looking at this as we got there was so spectacular.  This photo cannot interpret how I felt standing before it.  You can hear a bit already of the falls from here and see it.  The van stops at this point

Beautiful views

tumalog-falls-2.JPG

It goes downhill so I highly recommend that you walk this to appreciate the scenery and the greens

tumalog-falls-4.JPG

There are many motorcycle guys there and you can hire them for P 25.00 one way but again I am worried that they do not have helmets and they do not provide helmets as well.  So as much as possible, walk! Uphill is very difficult so I took it going up

Jeanne walked with me and we were just so amazed at the views

There’s the falls

Just AMAZING!!!!  TRULY SPECTACULAR!!! Love the bamboo criss crossing to create that shade in the area towards the falls

To take a full photo, you need to go into the water and take it from there.  I went into the water but I did not bring my camera 🙁 So this is a peek photo 🙂

Almost full size photo but now 🙂  It is very tall.

Beside the Belfry Tower is this very nice area with flowers.  They are not just flowers but it is a Waste Treatment plant to filter the dirty water from the public market before it goes back to the ocean!  What a great initiative!

Rizal Statue at Quezon Park

Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish which has a beautiful mosaic tiled image in the front of the parish.

A few minutes away from Dumaguete we visited the San Agustine de Hippo in Bacong- the tallest bell tower in the province built in 1863 housing the more than 100 year old Pipe Organ

Pipe Organ which is more than 100 years old and made with metal from Zaragoza, Spain in 1894 for P 8,000.00 but repaired in 2007 for P 1.7m

Malatapay Wednesday Market

By | Foodie, Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel | One Comment

Sandra recommended we go to the Malatapay Market which happens only on Wednesday.  She knows we like to eat 🙂  So we made sure we were in the area on a Wednesday to see what this is all about and experience it.  It is around 30 minutes aways from Dumaguete and in the town of Malatapay

It’s a street with stalls selling fresh seafood and others but mainly seafood

You can buy the seafood and have it cooked in one of the restaurant stalls

Shark :-O

They also trade livestock.  This carabao has been sold already to this new owner

More livestock in that truck

Other items being sold

A must in the market!  Lechon!  I saw two stalls there and they were fully sold out

This was where we ate.  We could not really shop for our seafood because it started to rain so we just ordered our food from this restaurant

Our table 🙂  with a tarpaulin as our table cover

Utensils were in a bowl with hot water

Puso rice which is wrapped and boiled in woven coconut leaves. It is known as hanging rice since they hang it 🙂  It’s very dense rice and is a Cebuano creation

It already has a split in the middle you just open it up 🙂

Sauce 🙂

Kinilaw na Tanguige

 Lechon

Fish

Tinola

I saw this across our table 🙂 Blindmen serenading 🙂

Our bill for 10 people

We went to Apo Island then came back and on the way home this was how the market looked like 🙂

The souvenir shop was still opened

Torta from Zamboanguita

By | Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel, Yummy! | No Comments

We arrived in Dumaguete at around 10 am, checked in out hotel and immediately left to have lunch at Malatapay.  On the way there, we stopped by this place to try Torta which is only made here.  This was not in the itinerary but our tour guide Jac knows a lot about food 🙂  So he recommended this and I made sure we stopped.  There is no address, it is on the left side of the road on the way to Malatapay Market – it is a few minuted before the market

 torta-zamboanguita-1.JPG

Gloria’s is the original 🙂

 Here is Gloria! Smile!! 🙂

torta-zamboanguita-5.JPG

 Freshly baked

torta-zamboanguita-6.JPG

Torta is made out of tuba as a dough riser.  They say you keep the bread overnight and eat it the next day.  But we prefer it hot and fresh! YUMMY!!!  We ate it the day after, it was still okay but it was a bit rubbery already 🙂  They like it that way 🙂

Only P 10.00 a pack or a bunch of 8 pcs

Fort Santiago

By | Arts and Culture, Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel | No Comments

Our first actual stop where we went down from the jeepney was Fort Santiago.  It’s a beautiful place.  I wish we could do more things to liven up this place.  The only tour inside is the Museum of Jose Rizal.  The other tour just shows remnants of World War II which is quite sad.  I fear that if we tour Japanese and Americans here it would not be so nice to tell them – “This was where the Japanese imprisoned the Americans.”  It feels bad enough that not many good memories were left in this place, so they should turn it into a happy place now in the future.

I wish they would just give a brief explanation as to what the place was and talk about more positive things.  Or Just take them to the Museum and walk around the place.  Maybe have a nice cafe where they can sit and enjoy the place since there are very few historical sites in our city.  Maybe have some cultural shows and have nice quaint shops selling Philippine products and antiques

fort-santiago1.jpeg

This is a happy sight for me 🙂  The guards look so elegant and reflects the past

fort-santiago2.JPG

The place would be beautiful without having to dwell too much on the war

fort-santiago3.jpegfort-santiago4.JPGfort-santiago5.jpegfort-santiago6.jpeg

There are some shops here which use to be prison cells – It would be nice to expand this and maybe upgrade the shops so more people will come and shop

fort-santiago7.jpeg

I was with Americans while doing the tour and I felt so akward when they had to hear all the horror stories of American being imprisoned 🙁  But look it’s beautiful here

fort-santiago8.jpeg

This description would have been enough.  I will be sending my comments and suggestions to the tour operator 🙂

fort-santiago9.jpegfort-santiago10.jpegfort-santiago11.JPG

This was a beautiful part of the tour – when they showed us Binondo.  Binondo is the oldest Chinatown in the world!!! You can see this from Fort Santiago
