Snack or tea time in the lodge every afternoon 🙂 On the last day, we had a different kind of tea time Beautiful!!! A Kudu!! We climbed a bit to get up To this!! WOW!!! This is what I mean when you have the whole place to yourself!! The best sundowner ever!!!Sundown at the top of the rock?? Amazing!!! Sasaab has a private reserve so they are the only lodge in the West Gate. So being on top of the rock meant having the place all to ourselves! We hiked a bit – even my 70 year old parents did it – to get to the top. It was worth it!! A 360 degree view of the Samburu with freshly cooked delicious Kenyan sausage. Photo session galore ? because its super beautiful! So blessed ?? @thesafaricollection #safaribug #samburu #sasaabsamburu Our guides as usual set up the kitchen 🙂 and cooked delicious African sausages!!
One of our best trips!! Truly one to remember!

Our last game drive at Samburu Another Leopard sighting!! Beautiful because he was up on a tree so it was so easy to watch We saw all the “Special 5” in Samburu 🙂 Gerenuku – a gazelle with a giraffe neck, 2 Leopards which is very difficult to spot ( sometimes you don’t even see one in a safari) , Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich with a blue neck, and Oryx #samburu #sasaabsamburu #kenya #h2hsafari #a2asafaris #h2hanimals Reticulated Giraffe ? which is unique to the Sambur There are many kinds of giraffe patterns #samburu #kenya #giraffe #h2hsafari #a2asafaris #h2hanimals Bush breakfast!!! The best 🙂
It was an early day for our game drive. We start at 630am when the weather is perfect. Cool and not sunny. Camels 🙂 Our guide looked for a spot for our bush breakfast and this was it – with trees as shade 🙂 Portable cooker from the jeep 🙂 Buffet table from the back of the jeep. All built in 🙂 Dining room 🙂 We saw the most unique animals in the Samburu. They were not abundant but there were really nice animals Grevy’s Zebra – an endangered species. There are only 2,500 of them and 90% of them are only found here in the Samburu and 10% in Ethiopia. Their stripes are finer and they have round Mickey Mouse like ears. They stay in a certain part in the Samburu so we saw a dazzle of ? . Super amazing! @thesafaricollection #safaribug #sasaabsamburu #samburu #kenya #h2hsafari #a2asafaris #grevyszebra #zebra #h2hanimals Every wednesday is market day. People come here, most of them by walking far distance to shop 🙂 Where that mountain is 🙂 Just by looking at what they are selling, you can tell that they have very simple and basic needs @thesafaricollection #safaribug #samburu #kenya #h2hsafari #a2asafaris Beads!!! They sell mostly beads and they make them themselves into different things. I was hoping we could buy plenty beaded merchandise Atleast I found something I really wanted- the bangles like our guide Ben haha!!! 3$ each bangle and I did not haggle anymore 🙂 haha Camel ride at around 5pm when it is not hot anymore
Lunch at Sasaab Samburu 🙂 @thesafaricollection #safaribug #sasaabsamburu #kenya #h2hsafari #a2asafaris Peter and Agnes – chefs in Sasaab Samburu @thesafaricollection #safaribug are amazing! We had Morrocan food and other gourmet dishes plus they cooked all our special request like Carbonara, bolognese and even pizza. All were good 🙂 We all gained between 5 to 10 pounds each because of the food from the camps!! #samburu #sasaabsamburu #h2hsafari #a2asafaris #h2hchefs
Dinner in Sasaab Samburu is usually under the stars #sasaabsamburu @thesafaricollection #safaribug #samburu #h2hsafari #a2asafaris #kenya There is an area by the river and this is where the venue is Before it gets dark this was the set up. Later at night it will be very dark you cannot see anything so this is how it is The food is very good at Sasaab. We had a sit down dinner the first evening 🙂 After the first evening, we requested to just eat inside because we wanted to see what we were eating haha 🙂 You can request for dishes if you tell them in advance and if they have the ingredients. Pizza!! 🙂 French fries 🙂 Pasta 🙂 We had bolognese, carbonara and they made mushroom. All were so good!!
As soon as we arrive in camp – we go on a game drive in the afternoon. Sasaab has their own private reserve and they are the only camp in that reserve which is why when you stay there- you have the whole reserve to yourself. It is yours for the duration of your stay!!! From camp, we pass y the river and it is just so beautiful!! The photo does not do justice I love just passing by the different pathways We saw elephants We saw a leopard!!!!! OMG!! We have been waiting to see a Leopard because it is very hard. They move fast. This one was so near us!! and it even crossed in front of us!!! After seeing the Leopard, our guide was so happy he could breathe! haha!!We visited a Samburu village to see how they live. They care for their goats and get milk to feed themselves. They sell their goats and trade them for food. They need to walk 50 kms to the market. The father stays there overnight since it takes a day to walk back home. How simple yet they are happy ?? We are discouraged from giving anything to them – sweets, money, toys #samburu #kenya #h2hsafari #a2asafaris Fresh goats milk as daily food
There are 9 individual cottages at Sasaab Samburu Lodge. @thesafaricollection #safaribug Each one facing the Ewaso Nyiro River. Each cottage has a pool #sasaabsamburu #samburu#kenya #h2hsafari #a2asafaris#h2haccomodations
This was our cottage Lots of exercise going up haha!! You put the warrior stick as a sign for DO NOT DISTURB 🙂 A whistle for emergency! Hmmmm i think we got the wrong room haha!!
Super love these African bags – Handwoven, so colorful and a labor of love. They provide it in the cottage for use ( but not to take away 🙂 ) @thesafaricollection #safaribug #samburu#sasaabsamburu #h2hartisan #h2hsafari#a2asafaris No Aircon 🙂 Love the beaded things all over!!! Outdoor bathroom
Our cottage at Sasaab Samburu @thesafaricollection#safaribug shower faces the Ewaso river and the most beautiful view but without any cover or wall. Aside from it being hot I would rather see what is around me while taking a shower haha SAVE A BUCKET initiative – I like this!! You put the bucket under the shower while you are waiting for the water to get hot. Then the staff uses this water to clean the room. So no water wasted 🙂
I checked out the other cottages. This is Number 1 the farthest cottage to the left of the main cottage This has the best outdoor plunge pool and seating And the bathroom is enclosed!! This is the closest cottage to the main cottage so if you are lazy to walk far and are a scaredy cat 🙂 this is the cottage you will like

Arrived at our next home- the Samburu. Sasaab Lodge @thesafaricollection #safaribug which is situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in North -central Kenya. It is the only lodge in this area so we have the whole wilderness to ourselves. It is Moroccan and Swahili style. The Sasaab group has 4 camps around Africa #sasaabsamburu#samburu #kenya #h2hsafari #a2asafaris#h2haccomodations Airport shopping 🙂 Make sure to buy some because you cannot find these items anywhere even in the market which is quite far. Also It is good to support the Samburu women who hand make these products. Truly a labor of love. We did not bargain anymore Terrain on the way to camp Arrival at our camp Pool You need to walk down to get to the pool Then walk down some more to get to the Spa resident rodents 🙂 you see them everywhere
