Ceylon tea with milk everyday !  In 1819 when the British  took over Sri Lanka they tried growing coffee but there was fungus and so they grew tea. Ceylon tea is the most popular tea in the world. The income from tea comprises 12% of the country’s GDP

We arrived at around 5pm at our home in Nuwara Eliya ( actually around 20 minutes away from Nuwara Eliya )  – Langdale Amaya @amayalangdale@smallluxuryhotels

It was raining with nice cool weather.  It’s a country home with 13 rooms – we occupied 10 rooms so we practically had the whole place to ourselves. As per @chutster – Peg – Baguio Country Club haha!! but better!!  for me it is better 🙂 #amayalangdale #srilankrew #srilankainstyle

These homes – called Bungalows – were built for the superintendents who used to manage the tea farms which is why they are situated near the plantations hence the beautiful views. I would suggest staying in Bungalows rather than hotels because they are more private.  But just make sure you choose your room because as always – in a house, the rooms are different – in size, in configuration and in condition.  So when you are a big group it can be challenging who gets what room.  So all these maybe should be ironed out before the trip if you are in a group.  If you are a family, same thing.  But overall the experience is better so you can be all together.  With regards to condition, they may vary because the bungalows are old homes, so the condition and the way it was maintained may vary.  So check your accommodations well before booking. Amaya Langdale (21) Amaya Langdale (25)  Spa!!Amaya Langdale (26)WOW!

The Royal Bar & Hotel is a new hotel rooted deeply in the colonial tradition of unpretentious hospitality. Originally an aristocrat's mansion, it became a British officers' club before opening to the public as a tavern in 1860. It remained open serving people from all walks of life for over 150 years and is the oldest and longest running bar in Kandy.

Temple of the Tooth

By | Sri Lanka | No Comments

Tradition relates that a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha was brought to Sri Lanka in 4th Century A.D. and was enshrined within the Dalanda Maligawa, or the Temple of the Tooth. This sacred relic has ever since been the symbol of sovereignty for the Sinhalese kings and always enshrined in great splendour. Kandy’s Dalada Maligawa is a magnificent shrine, with decorative walls, golden roof and fine woodwork. Religious services (pooja) are held daily at dawn, midday, and in the evening and can be viewed by visitors. The services are accompanied with traditional music and drummin #templeofthetooth #srilankrew#srilankainstyle
