“Getting to know music intimately allows the children a better chance at expressing their uniqueness. Getting to know music in this way will spark the discovery of how original each and every human being is.”

It’s what you’ve always wanted to do – Rock in a Band! Jazz it  up with a big band! Jam with the professionals! Improvise. Perform.

If you are between 11-18 years old, love music, and can play a musical instrument or sing, you are invited to join BandCamp!

There will be daily lessons and band practices, workshops and concerts where campers play with professional musicians.

  1. BulletBandCamp is a non-profit parent-organized camp.  It is a live-in contemporary music camp for young musicians. It is two weeks of playing music every day with kids of the same age and performing in concert with professional musicians.

  2. BulletCampers have daily instruction in their instruments and daily band practice. They join workshops, and play in concerts.   The whole program is designed to broaden young people’s  music experience and interest.

  3. BulletBandCamp is a collaboration with University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music teachers who are all professional musicians — trained in classical tradition but who also play contemporary music.  There will be 8 senior musicians in residence who will teach bass guitar, electric and acoustic guitar, keyboard, voice, drums, percussion and jazz violin.

  4. BulletBandCamp is in collaboration with the Beacon School. To ensure that the children are safe and rules are kept, there is a Den Mother in residence with three assistant facilitators.  The Den Mother is from the faculty of the Waldorf School.

BandCamp is a live-in only camp.

This year, BandCamp will be at The Beacon School, PCPD Compound, Taguig, Metro Manila. A Den Mother from the faculty of the Waldorf School, Ms. Laarni Aranas, will be in residence for the duration of the camp to ensure that children are safe and rules are kept. Ms. Aranas will have three assistants also in residence at all times: Aeon Mapa (a guitarist), Joshua (a singer) and Muriel Gonzales (a violinist). Sleeping quarters are at the second level of the Beacon School, and meals will be served at the cafeteria in the same building. Indoor and outdoor  concerts will also be in the same campus. For campers who have been accepted, please note registration is from  2-4 pm of May 4th at the Beacon School.    Move out is at 9 pm of May 18th. Please make sure you have everything in the LIST OF THINGS TO BRING, and have signed copy of the medical form and waiver when you register.

  1. The eight live-in teachers of BandCamp are mostly from the UST Conservatory

    1. of Music.  All are classically trained musicians who play professionally.

U Swim’s Save the Seas Campaign

About the Haribon Foundation: ( Taken from website)

haribon.gif

The Haribon Foundation for the Conservation of Natural Resources is a membership organization dedicated to the conservation of Philippine biodiversity. It aims to build a constituency for environmental issues that will call for prioritizing conservation actions on habitats and sites, based on solid scientific and socio-economic research. We are the pioneer environmental organization in the Philippines.

The name “Haribon” was coined from the words “haring ibon,” referring to the Philippine Eagle. The Philippine Eagle is the icon that signifies the importance of protecting biodiversity in the Philippine territory. Its presence is a constant reminder to the Filipinos to be continuously involved in taking care of our environment.

Our niche

Biodiversity is the wealth of life forms found on earth: the millions of different plants, animals and micro-organisms, the genes they contain, and the intricate ecosystems that they form.

Simply put, biodiversity IS life. Haribon’s work in biodiversity conservation seeks to protect that life through four core strategies: Saving Sites, Saving Species, Working with People, and Advocacy.

Our beginnings

Haribon started out as a bird-watching society in 1972 and evolved into a nature and wildlife conservation society. In 1983, the society became a full-fledged conservation foundation. Today, it is recognized, both in the Philippines and abroad, as the pioneer in Philippine environmental conservation. Haribon joins birds and habitat conservation organizations worldwide in a global partnership called BirdLife International. Haribon is the Philippine partner.

Our vision

Haribon takes the lead in caring for nature with the people – for the people.

Our mission

Haribon is a membership organization committed to nature conservation through community empowerment and scientific excellence.

Our signature

The logo nine leaves on one tree symbolize the nine ecosystems found in the Philippines: forest, marginal, agricultural, urban, freshwater, mangrove, sea grass, coral and soft bottom. haribon-tree-71.jpg

The line “Protecting Nature, Preserving Life” establishes the character of the organization.

In The Footsteps of a Hero: A Writing Workshop for Adolescents

In the Footsteps of a Hero:  A Writing Workshop for Adolescents

with Ms. Carla Pacis

For ages 13-18 years

April 16, 17, 18, 21 and 22, 2008

10:00 am to 12:00 noon

Fee is PhP 4,500.00

In today’s world, heroes are much in demand.  Some of us may know real life heroes, others play the hero in “virtual” ways through games, but most of us know about heroes only through stories.  The stories people find most engaging follow the structure called the Hero’s Journey.  This is especially true of adolescents whose own lives are similar to the hero’s journey.  This structure will be the basis of the module for the writing workshop to be conducted by Ms. Carla Pacis.  The workshop will be for five days – April 16, 17, 18 and April 21 and 22 – from 10am-12noon.  At the end of the five days, the participants will submit a story.  Fee of PhP 4,500.00 includes materials.

Ms Carla Pacis is a multi-awarded writer and professor of writing and literature at the De La Salle University in Manila.

The Lopez Memorial Museum is at the ground floor, Benpres Building, Exchange Road corner Meralco Avenue, Pasig City.  Museum days and hours are Mondays to Saturdays, except holidays, from 8am-5pm.  For more information, please call 631 2417 or email to pezseum@skyinet.net or lmmpasig@gmail.com.
