Martyr’s Shrine

By | Taiwan | No Comments

Officially the National Revolutionary Martyrs’ Shrine, the shrine was built to honour the fallen Kuomintang soldiers after the Chinese Civil War (and subsequent government relocation to Taiwan), and is home to around 390,000 spirit tablets honouring the lives and sacrifices of the KMT soldiers during the war against the communists in mainland China.

Built in 1969, the complex contains the main shrine, as well as several small exhibitions along the perimeter.

Most visitors will leave the area as soon as the guard changing is complete, but be sure to walk inside and explore the fascinating and beautiful Chinese architecture.

The front gate is guarded by active ROC military personnel, and visitors are welcome to observe the changing of the guard at the top of every hour until 5PM. ( GuidetoTaipei.com

Buffet Breakfast at Cafe Un Deux Trois

By | Taiwan | No Comments

I love breakfasts that are included with the room.  You don’t have to think if you will have breakfast or not!  You just have to because it is included!  haha!!

It’s psychological that even if you think you are not paying for it – but in reality you did! haha!! SO just avail!

But aside from that, I enjoyed the breakfast at the Mandarin Oriental.

Firstly I love the place, the ambience.  I love the blues that popped up in different spaces – the door, the tables, the christmas decor, the walls.  I actually like this blue now 🙂  At Cafe Un Deux Trois which is the coffee shop of the hotelbuffet-breakfast-at-cafe-un-deux-trois-5 The pastry shop is nearby so we took a peekbuffet-breakfast-at-cafe-un-deux-trois-8buffet-breakfast-at-cafe-un-deux-trois-19 There is a library nearby which is called Pages 🙂  Love it!    buffet-breakfast-at-cafe-un-deux-trois-20 Seating areas on the way to the Cafebuffet-breakfast-at-cafe-un-deux-trois-7

National Palace Museum Taipei

 National Palace Museum

Originally founded within the walls of the Beijing Forbidden City in 1925, the present-day National Palace Museum moved to Taipei’s Shilin District following the Republic of China government relocation in 1949 with an official opening for the public in 1965. Over 700,000 of the most precious artefacts within the collection were moved to Taiwan to prevent their desecration during and after the Chinese Civil War. Shin Yeh

By | Taiwan | No Comments

I have a funny story to tell about our Taipei restaurant reservations!  We got restaurant recommendations from our friend Ning with specific locations given but apparently, our concierge did not follow and booked us in restaurants and branches we did not specify! This happened twice!    I am so upset that now I have to go back to Taipei and go to the right ones haha!!!

Ning recommended we go to this branch of Shin Yeh since there are many in Taipei
shin-yeh-jhong-siao-taipei

Also as a reminder – when you get a recommendation, ask for what dishes to order.  This was Ning’s recommendation which we got already after.  And in Taipei Chinese characters help because most of them don’t speak English.  That was one of the difficulties we had

shin-yeh-jhong-siao-recommendations-taipeishin-yeh-jhong-siao-recommendations-taipei-2

But we went to this location – the original branch which was also good.  We just did not know what to order 🙁 since no one did research including me :-O

Sugar & Spice Nougat

By | Taiwan | One Comment

Sugar and Spice nougat ! Yum! We stopped by quickly just to buy some!  I’m not a nougat person 🙂  but this one I will eat.  Taiwan is known for their nougat and I tried 2 kinds while here in the market and in the souvenir stores.  It was good.  This one was recommended by our friend Indy and it’s really good and I like all the flavors. A nice pasalubong or if you like nougat.  They have sampling so you can taste so i would say it is worth a try! #H2HTaiwan #H2HSweets sugar-spice-nougat-2

Eslite Bookstore is more than a bookstore! There are tea rooms, restaurants, arts and crafts, fashion, food and more! They have local brands and local delicacies in the store! LOVE it!
