Sunday Brunch at Salty’s, Seattle

By | Foodie, Travel | One Comment

Day 1 in Seattle was a Sunday so of course Mom was searching for her Sunday brunch!!  This was recommended by the hotel

We were already so hungry and we had to drive around 25 minutes from the hotel, for me it was worth it! 🙂

Waiting area! Apparently there is always a line to get a seat at Salty’s.  It’s a very popular restaurant

brunch-at-saltys-02.jpg

They have scones, coffee, tea while you wait 🙂

The brunch buffet!!!

Not mom’s idea of brunch, she likes the quiet, sit down brunch.  But we were already so hungry,  So we just  attacked! just like everyone else.  I enjoyed what I had and wish I could try everything but it was just too much.  I was only able to try maybe 1% of the buffet

Elliot’s Seattle

By | Foodie, Travel | One Comment

As soon as we arrived in Seattle, we had dinner at Dad’s favorite resto! Elliot’s!  After the whole trip, I must say, it is also my favorite resto in Seattle

elliots-02.jpg

elliots-logo.png

elliots-01.jpgelliots-03.jpg

FRESH Oysters!!! which explains why Dad and Mom like this place!

elliots-04.jpgelliots-05.jpgelliots-028.jpgelliots-029.jpgelliots-06.jpgelliots-07.jpgelliots-08.jpg

First order – a dozen  of 3 different kinds

elliots-013.jpgelliots-014.jpgelliots-015.jpgelliots-016.jpg

It was so good, they ordered 1 more dozen

elliots-019.jpgelliots-020.jpgelliots-011.jpgelliots-012.jpg

YUMMY!! Love ordering Calamari in seafood places!  So fresh and so crispy!

elliots-017.jpg

This is one of the best crabcakes I have ever tried in my entire life!  It tastes different from all the other crabcakes!! LOVE IT!!!!

elliots-018.jpg

And this is the other and the main reason why Dad and Mom love Elliot’s!  FRESH DUNGENESS CRABS!!!

elliots-09.jpg

They didn’t want to share with each other nor with James and I- they had 1 each!! 🙂

elliots-021.jpgelliots-023.jpg

It comes with these sidings

elliots-022.jpg

I love watching my Dad and Mom eat crabs! It’s truly a HAPPY MOMENT!!

elliots-024.jpg

My hot water 🙂

elliots-025.jpg

Cleaning our hands after holding the crabs 🙂

elliots-026.jpg

A unique way of removing the smell from your hands- the waiter crushed crackers in our hands and you just rub it and voila no more crab smell!!!

Korean Air

By | Foodie, Travel | 3 Comments

We normally take Japan Airlines to the States, but recently we have been using Korean Airlines.

lkorean-air-ogo_ke.jpg

Flights are from Manila to Seoul, then from there, they have flights direct to the States and so far i have tried – LA, Seattle and New York. So far so good!

My seatmate!!!  Jim Clancy from CNN!

korean-airlines-09.jpg

I wish i took photos of the stewardess but I assure you they are even prettier than these ones I googled.  They were all tall, slim, pretty with very very nice pearly white skin!

 korean-stewardess7.jpg

Our food on board

korean-airlines-02.jpgkorean-airlines-03.jpgkorean-airlines-04.jpgkorean-airlines-05.jpg

They always have Bibimbap as a choice, James seems to like this

korean-airlines-01.jpgkorean-airlines-06.jpg

I wanted the milkfish, but they ran out so i got the chicken

korean-airlines-07.jpgkorean-airlines-08.jpgkorean-airlines-010.jpgkorean-airlines-012.jpgkorean-airlines-013.jpgkorean-airlines-014.jpgimg_5570.JPGkorean-airlines-011.jpgkorean-airlines-015.jpgimg_5573.JPG

When we arrived, customs asked me if I brought any snacks – any magic sarap? any chicharon?  Oh my gosh, I had chicharon.  A friend asked me to bring chicharon for her and apparently it is not allowed!  So they had to open my suitcase and analyze my chicharon.  I had chicharittos which was pork and they confiscated it but they let me keep the others which were vegetable chicharon

A Year of Discovery Celebration and Savings

By | Hearty Deals, Travel | No Comments

We attended a presentation last month by Crystal Cruises.  They are celebrating their 20th anniversary and they have plenty great packages this year! 15 years ago we took the Mediterranean Cruise on Crystal Symphony. One of the nice things about a cruise is you get to go to different cities without having to bring your luggage with you.  And being on the cruise is in itself an adventure.

It’s in my bucket list to go on a cruise again hopefully one day…..

a-year-of-discovery-02.jpg

I took photos of the presentation on the screen, I hope you can read it

They have courses on board while you are traveling!

a-year-of-discovery-08.jpg

Cruises are actually more fun when you are with a big family or a big group of friends.

Activities for kids

a-year-of-discovery-09.jpga-year-of-discovery-010.jpg

Wow, there are themes 🙂

a-year-of-discovery-011.jpga-year-of-discovery-012.jpg

It’s actually fun to be on board, they have so many things to keep you busy till you get to your next destination

a-year-of-discovery-013.jpg

The food is all included and you can choose to eat in the main dining or in the restaurants on the ship

a-year-of-discovery-014.jpg

I don’t mind a small room, just make sure there is a window you can open to see outside or a balcony

Great deals this year on their 20th anniversary

Pinto Art Museum

By | Arts and Culture, Proud to be Pinoy!, Travel | One Comment

Here is a portrait of the famous Dr. Cuanang ( by Winner Jumalon 2006)  found at the Pinto Museum.  Thank you Dr. Cuanang for your amazing contribution to Philippine art!

saling-pusa-053.jpg

We were toured by one of the Saling Pusa artists, Jim Orencio

saling-pusa-018.jpg

The Museum had just opened last December 2010 and I heard it took around 2 years to build with the help of artist Tony Leaño

saling-pusa-01.jpgsaling-pusa-02.jpg

Love the display of the Philippine flag!

saling-pusa-03.jpgsaling-pusa-04.jpgsaling-pusa-05.jpg

It’s Plet’s sculpture by the garden!!

saling-pusa-06.jpgsaling-pusa-07.jpg

I was just so awed and dumbfounded so to see so many beautiful antiques and art works around the place!

saling-pusa-08.jpg

Wow!  This was the first artwork you see as you enter the gallery!  What a treasure!!!!!! A 1992 painting made by the Saling Pusa group! PRICELESS!

saling-pusa-016.jpgsaling-pusa-010.jpg

Dr. Cuanang has a beautiful collection! He knew these artists had talent and he supported them.  How can you put a value to even just that alone?  And now it is even so difficult to acquire such works from these artists – Elmer Borlongan, Tony Leaño, Mark Justinani, John Santos, Joy Mallari, Emmanuel Garibay, Geronimo Tapales and the rest of the group!

Another building.  Love the Leroy artwork on the facade!

saling-pusa-058.jpgsaling-pusa-059.jpg

Plet Borlongan again!  Beautiful!!! I want a Plet sculpture in my garden! 🙂

saling-pusa-060.jpg

Photo opportunity for Mom beside Plet’s beautiful art 🙂

Thank you also to another Saling Pusa artist, Andy Orencio,  who is the brother of Jim and toured us also around the museum

Cheli & Peacock

By | Accomodations, Travel | No Comments

When you decide to go on a safari in Africa, the next step is to choose which part of Africa 🙂

Previous entry:  Asia to Africa Safaris January 3, 2012

africa-destinations.jpg

If you do decide to go to Kenya, Cheli and Peacock has a good portfolio of luxury resorts to stay in which they own and some of which they manage

map-of-kenya-safaris-copy.jpg

I had the pleasure of meeting Stefano Peacock during his visit here in Manila and he introduced to us Cheli and Peacock which is a company owned by him and his wife

The camps

I took some photos from the website and from the presentation and wow, the camps are so beautiful!!  And this is just in Kenya!! It is so hard to choose which one just in Kenya because they all have their own charm
