Whenever in Subic with Dad and Mom, Sakura is a definite stop. They have good japanese food and an extensive menu. They have a branch in Araneta Coliseum near Starbucks but it is called Sachi. (Taken from the website of Araneta Coliseum):
Sachiko Hirano’s Sakura Restaurant at Times Square in Subic, has a good following despite its distance from Metro Manila. It attracts people who seek authentic Japanese cuisine at its finest. Recognizing this, Hirano decided to put up a branch at the heart of Quezon City, Araneta Center. “Same quality, same management”, Hirano says. Like its Subic counterpart, Sachi at the Coliseum Circle offers excellent wasyoku or traditional Japanese cuisine, like sushi, sashimi, tempura, gohanmono (rice with topping), noodles, agemono (deep-fried items), yakimono (grilled foods), nimono (simmered dishes), teppanyaki (dishes grilled on hot iron plate), nabermono (one pot dishes like sukiyaki and shabu-shabu), Japanese style steaks, desserts and other house specials prepared by executive chef Tadashi Noda and his staff.

They were stopping me from taking photos but I had finished taking everything already. I hope the owner will realize that the photos I took will be for a good cause

In 1992, during the height of duty free shopping in Subic, Meat Plus was selling only frozen steaks. In 1994, they added toys to their line up. Then in 1996, Tita Apples had the idea of grilling the steaks for the customers. She started off with just a home griller and a rice cooker. They charged $ 1.00 as a cooking charge. In the year 2000, they opened TENDER BOBS in Manila which is also a steak place but a bit more upscale. They now have 3 locations. In 2008, they are still in Subic and doing very well! They must be doing something right.
We always pass by Meat plus but never get to eat there because it is always full. I guess it is full because it is good food at a very reasonable price. Value for money. But this trip, we decided to use our connections and make a reservation with one of the owners, Tita Apples. And Thanks to Tito Paquito and Tita Pinky ( owners also ) who were there that day for watching over us and for making sure we had their yummy dessert. We enjoyed our lunch!
Notice how full the place is. Even the take out counter has long lines! Tito Paquito said that during weekends it is always full but they are noticing now that even weekdays, it is also getting full. Steaks are really the “in” thing now but at MEAT PLUS, it started many years ago.
You can buy your steak and have it cooked.
This was the rib eye. Very good!!
We asked the waiter for a recommendation and he said that the MEAT PLUS Burger was the bestseller. So almost everyone ordered this. It was a very simple looking burger but it was really good. And for the price of P 110.00 ONLY! It is a double burger with cheese in the middle! YUMMY!!! You can just line up and take this out if you prefer to take it home. It also has a meal which comes with drinks and french fries for P 160.00. The desserts were really good!!!!!!!! Make sure to order it ala mode. The ice cream was so good, I forgot to ask what it was. The Mango caramel!!!! Yum! and the Apple pie ala mode!

On the way home, I saw a sign pointing to this place. It was timely because my Mom asked me to research about it as she read an article on it. So I decided to go and check it out. The receptionist was kind enough to show me around. But she did not show me the bigger rooms as they were occupied at that time so I only go to see one room.
I was so surprised to see such a beautiful place in Subic near where we live. Eugene, you never told us about this beautiful place of yours. I saw that it was affiliated with White Rock and wondered how come we never really heard about this secret place It is three years old already but relatively new compared to all the other hotels and accomodations in SBMA which I have not seen in a long time. I heard about a new place called THE LIGHTHOUSE ( http://www.lighthouse-subic.com) from Camille which is by the boardwalk, but I have not been there yet.
One thing I like about it is that it is in a residential area so it is not near all the other commercial establishments in Subic plus it is surrounded by many trees. The view is also very nice and it is very peaceful. At the time I was there which was around 11:00 am, there was hardly anyone so it seemed private and quiet. Not chaotic. I asked the reception if it was rated as a 4 star, 5 star… she said it was an ” Inn.” Heart2Heart would say it is more like a “Bed and Breakfast” like the ones in England, without the cold weather of course
Hope to get to try the restaurant, Le Jardin, on my next visit.
Wow! What a beautiful entrance with that beautiful gigantic tree on the side.
The greens, the flowers and vines are so nice…….
These are the rooms at the back – 2 levels
The room shown to me was very clean and decent…
Garden with a nice gazebo- view from the rooms
The view. According to the receptionist, that is their greenhouse where they grow their vegetables which they serve in their restaurant, Le Jardin.
Sorry about that, the price was cut. Heart2Heart was dizzy already
More rooms on the other side facing the pool.
Infinity pool with a beautiful view

The new SCTex Highway opened last April 28 and we were able to try it out over the weekend. Since the family likes going to Subic, this will definitely be a regular route again. Save around 30 to 40 minutes from your regular Subic trip since you do not have to pass the small towns from San Fernando to Subic. one thing we do also to reduce the time to Subic is to leave very early in the morning – before 6 am or late evening to avoid the EDSA traffic. The longest part is always the Makati to Balintawak section so try to avoid that traffic and you will get to Subic in 2 hours from Makati.
It looks like Subic businesses will start picking up again with this new development. The highway is a beautiful scenic drive. It is like the highways in the States. For now it is all scenery and greens, hopefully it will stay that way and no commercial establishments sprouting up.
The P27.2-B 93.77 km expressway is a flagship project of President Arroyo and is among the mega-projects intended to transform Central and Northern Luzon into a super region. It is expected to serve as the new economic backbone for Central Luzon and the adjoining regions that is seen to create wider opportunities for investment, trade and employment.
