Lower East Side Tour by Caloy

By | Travel | No Comments

Just walking around Katz’s deli there are so many stores and restos.

I hope to try this one day since its owned by the same group as Carbone. Dirty French – Dirty French is a New York bistro created by Major Food Group’s Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi and Jeff Zalaznick. The restaurant takes its culinary cues from the timeless dishes and preparations of the classic French bistro and enlivens them utilizing modern techniques and bold flavors. Dishes like Duck à l’Orange with ras el hanout and preserved oranges and Trout Amandine with sesame and apricots remain true to their French roots but are restyled with flavors that explore the breadth and depth of the global French culinary influence. Dirty French is located in the Ludlow Hotel in Manhattan’s storied Lower East Side. Lower East Side Tour by Caloy (1)

il laboratori del gelato

Right across Katz’s Deli is Il Laboratorio del Gelato-my son Jaime told us about this.   So yummy and so refreshing – very gourmet and unique flavors – I love the cream cheese and Fior di latte flavors. They limit the tasting to 2 but there’s so many other flavors – come to try after Katz’s deli

il laboratori del gelato (1)

Dedicated to producing the very finest ice cream and sorbet,
il laboratorio del gelato opened in August 2002 on Orchard Street in Lower Manhattan.
Our small walk-up retail cafe offers an expansive window into an open kitchen, where our frozen desserts are hand-made in small batches, ensuring the highest quality. We source the world over for flavors of purity and excellence, when possible sourcing locally and organically.
With a growing list of almost 200 flavors, il laboratorio del gelato was born with the idea, as our name suggests, of being a custom “lab”, where chefs and caterers are encouraged and welcomed to work with us to develop unique flavors for their individual menus.
To our wholesale clients, we offer delivery six days a week, free of charge, and a unique freezer program. Please feel free to call to request samples, to discuss our products, or to arrange a tasting in our shop.

Always a Tourist in NYC

By | Travel | No Comments

Whenever I go to New York, I always tell myself I am just going to stay home but every time I go back there is always so many new things to see!! It’s really the city that never sleeps! 🙂

Giant Hello Kitty in midtown.

From the New York Observer : Japanese artist Sebastian Masuda is bringing his multi-city Time After Time Capsule project to the Big Apple in the form of a nine-foot-tall giant sculpture of Kitty that New Yorkers can deposit personal objects into. The sculpture will go on view April 29 through September 13 at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza at 47th Street and 2nd Avenue, just around the corner from Japan Society.

The main feature of the project are large-scale, hallow sculptures of kawaii characters (the Japanese-exported “cute” phenomena, which has exploded worldwide and garnered Tokyo’s Harajuku fashion district international notoriety). The artist, who has been active on the Japanese youth culture scene since 1995, is also the director of 6%DOKIDOKI, a kawaii concept story in Harajuku. The project kicked off in Miami at last year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, and will move to Amsterdam after its NYC run. At each location, programming will be held for children and families where they’ll be encouraged to combine their personal objects with pieces from the 6%DOKIDOKI line, and add them to the time capsule. Sculptures from each city will reunite in 2020 in Tokyo for the city’s summer Olympics

High Line NYC

By | Arts and Culture, Travel | One Comment

By the new Whitney Museum is the start of the High Line.

The High Line is New York City’s newest and most unique public park. Located thirty feet above street level on a 1930s freight railway, the High Line runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to 34th Street in Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen. It features an integrated landscape combining meandering concrete pathways with naturalistic plantings. Highline (8)

It’s a nice walk with so much to see, buildings, greenery, art, food, people 🙂 and more

Meeting Mimi at Sunny’s Table

By | Travel | One Comment

Our 19 year old son, Jaime, made us drive 5 hours (round trip) from Boston to Concord for us to meet his girlfriend, Mimi, over dinner. We thought it was a crazy idea because of the drive but because it was so important for Jaime, we agreed. Obviously he is in LOVE 🙂 and we are happy that it was important to him that she be introduced to us as his parents. We have done our best to raise our son and trust that one day he will find the right one (who will have to be like his Mom haha!! ) The future of our kids will rely very much on who they will marry so we pray and wish that they will find someone that will take care of them and will LOVE and make them happy.Meeting Mimi at Sunny's Table (14)

We ate at one of the best restaurants in Concord.  It’s a small city and there is not much around, so this is already the best haha!! And the kids only eat here when their parents are visiting because it is not that cheap and the portions are smallMeeting Mimi at Sunny's Table (2)
