Gem Palace Jaipur

By | Great Achievements, Travel, Tributes | 3 Comments

One of the highlights of our Jaipur trip was the visit to Gem Palace!  Precious and semi precious stones come from different parts of the world, but they are sent to Jaipur for cutting and polishing.  The best craftsmen are Muslims.  So if you are looking for beautiful jewelry, Jaipur is the place to go.

 Inside the store

After a few minutes of viewing, the owner arrived.  Actually he is the son of the owner.  Munuu, the father, had just passed away three months ago.  See his photo at the back. Siddharth took us to a private floor of the store and started showing us his collection!  Which of course is also for sale and shown only to special clients.

gem-palace-jaipur-010.jpg

Siddharth also goes to New York every now and then to attend to his clients by private appointment only

gem-palace-jaipur-044.jpg

One of his clients Dianne Von Fustenberg.  She loves the pieces she buys from Gem Palace because she always receives many compliments.  That’s a Gem Palace necklace she is wearing.  She sends photos of herself wearing the jewelry to Siddharth 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-031.jpg

Munuu is known worldwide.  He was a very good designer and jeweler.  Watch out for his book, it will be coming out by next year

gem-palace-jaipur-030.jpggem-palace-jaipur-028.jpgmunuu-gem-palace.jpg

And now Siddharth took over, who by the way is still single.  I was ashamed to ask how old he was 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-029.jpg

Siddharth starts bringing out his collection- this is a piece for the MMA of NYC which will be exhibited soon

Beautiful bangle with rubies- made by his father

gem-palace-jaipur-012.jpggem-palace-jaipur-013.jpg

Oh my gosh!  Those diamonds look so big but the most valuable part of this necklace is the emeralds!

gem-palace-jaipur-015.jpg

Behind the diamonds

gem-palace-jaipur-014.jpg

He put those two pieces together and this is how it can look!  Mom tried it on! 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-017.jpg

Another beautiful piece which he put on me 🙂

More beautiful pieces

A beautiful HEART emerald!!

gem-palace-jaipur-024.jpggem-palace-jaipur-025.jpg

James loves asking jewelers to show him pink diamonds claiming he will buy them for me 🙂  So Siddharth shows some pink colored stones

gem-palace-jaipur-026.jpg

He says that this is the stone that is getting to be popular now- Pink Spinel

gem-palace-jaipur-027.jpg

Which is why he is collecting loose pieces 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-037.jpg

The table was full – it was as if we were looking at fashion jewelry!

gem-palace-jaipur-032.jpggem-palace-jaipur-033.jpggem-palace-jaipur-034.jpggem-palace-jaipur-035.jpggem-palace-jaipur-036.jpg

Siddharth showed us this piece which he said he will use on his head when he gets married

gem-palace-jaipur-038.jpg

Afterwhich he will give it to his bride to wear as a belt!  What a lucky bride 🙂

gem-palace-jaipur-039.jpggem-palace-jaipur-040.jpggem-palace-jaipur-041.jpggem-palace-jaipur-042.jpggem-palace-jaipur-045.jpg

We went down because the brother of Munuu, who is partner in the business, wanted to meet us too.

gem-palace-jaipur-046.jpg

He showed us this bridal piece which is meant for the Saudi Arabian market.  This is worn by the bride

gem-palace-jaipur-047.jpg

With a matching head piece which Maricar wore 🙂  All this selling at around US$ 1 million

gem-palace-jaipur-048.jpg

James made sure he signed the book to say he visited the Gem Palace! haha!! He thinks he is Brad Pitt! 🙂

This was really Brad Pitt, and I am wondering what he bought for Angelina 🙂

Many think that me and my sister with mom are sisters 🙂

The BBFFs

By | Tributes | No Comments

I am so happy to spend time with the BBFFs.  I always see their travels and photos but this time I witnessed them and they are so much fun to be with!  I asked the help of Marlu as they can best explain their friendship!  I wish I had a friendship like theirs – Imagine 37 years and 4 best friends!   I am going to see if I can form one now!! haha!! 🙂  Hopefully we will see more of the BBFFs here at Heart2Heart

Here are photos by Anette ( one of the BBFFs ).  They even have a mascot called Schubbee that travels with them wherever they go!  So cute!! I love how they document their time together!

The BBFFs

 bbffs-04.jpg

Thank you, Rica, for giving the BBFFs this space to talk a bit about our 37-year friendship that’s so tight we decided that BFF wasn’t enough to describe ourselves, we added an extra “B” such that the acronym spells out as Bestest Best Friends Forever!  Of course it’s ungrammatical but our friendship transcends grammar rules.

 bbffs-017.jpgbbffs-018.jpgbbffs-019.jpg

We all got acquainted with each other when we were sophomores in high school.  Jenny Litton Navasero and I had been in the Assumption since Prep but Dina De Jesus Campos and Annette Palaypay Lewallen were new girls from Maryknoll (now Miriam) and St. Scholastica’s respectively.  Dina and I bonded almost instantly because we were both sporty and even had the same gym shoes!  By the time we were juniors, the four of us were part of a bigger group of seven.  I’d say it wasn’t until we were in college that the quad came to be.  Jenny, Dina and I found ourselves in UP Diliman.  While Annette had gone to De La Salle University, we would somehow find ways to be together like going on trips to Baguio and the beach or organizing what used to be considered “parties ng bayan” in Jenny’s house.  When Jenny and Dina moved to the UP Manila campus for their dentistry proper, they naturally saw more of Annette.  We would keep in touch regularly even before cell phones and the Internet (we all have bundles of letters to prove that) so you can just imagine how we’ve optimized today’s technology.

 bbffs-016.jpg

Eventually, we got married, had kids and built our careers.  We wouldn’t see each other as often but we always knew where the others were.  Recently, in fact, we discussed the “gaps” in our friendship and these were mostly the years when we were very busy raising the children.  So now that most of them are grown, we can spend much time with each other again.  And we’ve also become godmothers to each other’s children so we’ve even sealed the friendship with kinship!

I would say that our 25th high school anniversary in 2003 was a turning point.  Annette came home after 20 years for our velada and it was so uncanny how we all just picked up where left off (like we just parted ways yesterday!).  And it’s always like that.  Whenever we see each other, it seems like there is never any passage of time or space.  In fact, we even repeat the same stories and jokes, sometimes dating back from high school, and we laugh so loud you’d think it was the first time we heard it!  Now, try to visualize that in text format which happened just last night while we were on group Viber!  And you haven’t even heard the nicknames we have for each other…

bbffs-026.jpg

When we turned 50 last year, instead of throwing parties, we all decided to travel together.

bbffs-06.jpgbbffs-028.jpgbbffs-027.jpg

We had so much fun that we did it again this year!  When the four of us cannot be all together, there’s Facebook to link us and to experience everything vicariously – our mini reunions with other classmates, family gatherings, career milestones, good news, bad news and sad news.  Not to mention the benefits of email, Skype, texting, phone calls and even snail mail from time to time!  Really, when you think about it, there is no reason in the world NOT to keep in touch with friends!

bbffs-03.jpegbbffs-02.jpegbbffs-01.jpeg

We have thousands of BBFF photos but we are only guests on Rica’s blog so here are a few that we hold dear to our hearts.  We hope that there are many of you out there who are also as lucky as us to have the Bestest Best Friends Forever and ever in the universe!

Cecille Rabuco MD

By | Health and Fitness, Tributes, Velada 2012 | No Comments

I was having my annual check up at Medicard and I bumped into my batchmate, Cecille!

cecile-rabuco-01.jpg

I was so happy to see her!!!  Kwento kwento kwento…….

I knew she was a gynecologist but I did not know she was assigned to the Medicard I go to, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday! I am so proud of my Assumption batchmates – everyone has become successful in their own field of expertise

cecile-rabuco-03.jpg

Oh my gosh! Then I realized I was scheduled for a papsmear that day and that she was the one going to perform it!!!! YIKES!!!

So I asked to be rescheduled!  haha!!! I am shy!!!  So I just took her photo by the bed I did not lay down on! 🙂

Happy Birthday in Heaven Jerome

By | Celebrations, Tributes | 2 Comments

It was July 3, ten days after Jerome had left us.  It was so nice to celebrate Jerome’s 45th birthday while he is in heaven and celebrate the years of his life on earth.  We arrived late as we too were celebrating the birthday of Mommy Carmeling who is in heaven as well with Jerome.

jerome-tan-photos-3.JPG

So I was not able to take the food as it was almost all gone 🙂  But Cirkulo was one of the favorite places of Jerome, the Mom of Jerome was telling us that he would always go back and forth to Cirkulo to eat

Happy Birthday in Heaven Mommy Carmeling

By | Celebrations, Tributes | No Comments

We had a simple family get together to celebrate Mom’s birthday starting off with mass at 4 pm and then an early dinner at home.  It’s very easy to miss Mom because she was very much present in all of our lives.  So when she left, there was a big vacuum and I felt it very much because my husband I know was deeply affected

Every day and every year we remember her, Happy Birthday Mom!!

Previous entry:  My Other Mother January 30, 2007

The theme was pink….. we prepared pink flowers for Mom 🙂

moms-dinner-pink-flowers.JPG

Our favorite type of dinner table- ROUND!  James made sure we had the biggest round table that could fit our dining room so we could fit the whole family during our family meals!  This table is good for 14 people and it still is not enough for everyone- but it fits most 🙂  We always put dad in the center of the table 🙂
