Starbucks, Teach for the Philippines improve students’ lives, one classroom at a time!

Starbucks, Teach for the Philippines improve students’ lives, one classroom at a time

For many Filipinos, education plays a vital role in improving the quality of life. Despite this, many children struggle with their studies as they find themselves in tightly-packed, poorly-ventilated classrooms with dilapidated tables and chairs.

The Department of Education (DepEd) estimates around 29 million students are attending classes this school year, an increase from the 27 million enrollees last year. As the student population continues to grow because of the K-12 program, the classroom shortage and inadequacy of school facilities has become an urgent issue that the country faces.

Among other factors, a school environment can affect a child’s learning. Comfort and safety are basic considerations for a conducive learning environment, while stimulating surroundings with colors and creativity is also said to improve attendance, concentration and motivation.

Teach for the Philippines (TFP), a non-profit organization that provides Filipino children with access to quality education by providing teacher support and development, has been helping address classroom shortage and inadequacy with the help of their Renovate to Educate (rED) program. This enables TFP to connect education champions with public schools who need help in classroom and facility rehabilitation.

“Helping improve their learning environment is just one of the ways in which we hope students will be excited to go to school and learn,” said Clarissa Delgado, TFP co-founder and CEO. “Quality education is what will propel our children to succeed in life; and it’s when we work with like-minded partners like Starbucks that we can make this possible.”

Starbucks Philippines, a TFP corporate partner, recently helped refurbish the facilities of Pateros National High School in Metro Manila and Col. E. De Leon Elementary School in Parañaque City. The volunteer Starbucks partners (employees) were tasked to rebuild classroom chairs and tables, repair classroom doors, repaint comfort rooms and even fabricate blackboards and book shelves.

“We recognize the importance of education in our country and we see an opportunity to support this through Teach for the Philippines,” said Noey Lopez, Starbucks Philippines president.

Rev (26 of 67)For the past four years, Starbucks Philippines has been supporting TFP through various initiatives, including the yearly Starbucks Planner promotion. Through their partnership, fourteen (14) public schools from Manila, Laguna, Baguio, Cebu, Davao and Cagayan de Oro City have been renovated and rehabilitated, with the help of more than 800 Starbucks partners (employees).

“It has always been a passion of mine to help people especially those who are in need. Fortunately, Starbucks is able to connect us with our community through Teach for the Philippines and Renovate to Educate. Through each build activity, I feel that I have made a difference by creating a better environment for the future generation”, said Ana Mendoza, store manager, Starbucks Reserve 14 Jupiter.

Now, more and more Starbucks partners look forward to rED events as they deepen their commitment to help grow communities and improve lives.

Aside from rED events, Starbucks Philippines also supports TFP’s Fellowship Program wherein young leaders are enlisted as Teacher Fellows to teach in public schools for two years; as well as Flipped, a program wherein public school students are brought on educational trips.

With Renovate to Educate, Starbucks Philippines and Teach for the Philippines remind us that “education is everyone’s responsibility” and that we should all be doing our part in making a positive impact.

LONGCHAMP opens New York City flagship store

LONGCHAMP OPENS ITS NEW YORK CITY FLAGSHIP STORE ON MANHATTAN’S FIFTH AVENUE.

Longchamp—the esteemed French luxury house—opened its New York City flagship store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, one of the world’s most famous shopping boulevards, last May 3, 2018. Located at 645 Fifth Avenue in the Olympic Tower, adjacent to Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the 4,000 square-foot, two story space will be the brand’s largest outpost in the United States.

Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_8380 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_3_8382 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_4_8383 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_5_8384 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_6_8385 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_7_8386 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_9_8388 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_10_8389

The Olympic Tower is an architectural feat, and a bold statement in and of itself—described as both “prismatic” and “cinematic.” The structure around the store is made of layered rows of protruding metal ribbons in soft shades of gold and champagne hues. The metal strips are rigid, but are meant to appear as if they are floating, or swaying in the breeze.

The lighting on the flagship’s façade is also unique, and new for Longchamp. The design itself enhances the contrasting visual properties between materials such as aluminum, sheet metal and polished stainless steel. The vibrant facade represents a fresh visual identity, marking the next chapter in Longchamp’s storied and innovative history. This visual statement was introduced at the opening of the brand’s new flagship boutique in Shanghai, China. In a world of perpetual interconnectedness and motion, this cutting-edge entryway connotes stepping into the Longchamp universe with style and serenity.Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_11_8390 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_12_8391 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_14_8393 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_15_8394 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_16_8395 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_17_8396 Longchamp_NY_5th_Avenue_Eric_M_Townsend_19_8398

Once inside, shoppers will be drawn to the focal point of the flagship—artwork titled Transchromie Mécanique Aléatoire by the Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez. Cruz-Diez is known for his kinetic and optic aesthetic which is evident in this piece. Through the artwork’s moiré effect, Cruz-Diez is able to create a sense of motion while also catalyzing an immersive visual experience through color. There is a synergy and continuity between the composition of Cruz-Diez’s work and the linear elements of the façade.

Longchamp’s Fifth Avenue flagship will contain the widest range of the house’s collections in the United States, including women’s handbags, ready-to-wear, shoes, leather accessories, men’s collections and all of the label’s luggage pieces. Each collection will be displayed in a number of uniquely styled spaces to showcase the brand’s well-known, Parisian-chic sensibilities.

Opening a U.S.-based flagship on such a cosmopolitan setting as Fifth Avenue seemed a natural progression, given the prominent locations of Longchamp’s other existing flagships around the world, which are located in Paris, Hong Kong, London, and most recently, Tokyo.

“The time is right for our brand to open its doors on the iconic Fifth Avenue. We will now be able to reach a larger local and international audience”, says Stephanie Disegni, President and CEO of Longchamp USA.

Jean Cassegrain founded Longchamp in Paris in 1948 and the company is still owned and operated by the family. Longchamp handbags, luggage and accessories are known all over the world for the quality of the craftsmanship produced by its studios. The company has expanded into the fashion sector and offers footwear and ready-to-wear collections. Longchamp is an international brand whose creativity and vitality has remained strong for many decades. It embodies Paris chic and the uninhibited, slightly rebellious nature of the French art of living. All over the world, Longchamp is a part of life for people who are on the move, free-spirited, urban voyagers who appreciate the pleasures of distinctive and authentic luxury. Spirited new ad campaigns and exciting projects with a long list of artists are accentuating the liberated and creative mindset of Longchamp that shines through on every continent with over 300 exclusive boutiques.

FACE OF NATIONS Spring/Summer 2018 Collection

FACE OF NATIONS
Spring/Summer 2018 Collection

A face etched by a multiethnic collage, a look that speaks myriad languages, but which belongs to just one photograph, a daughter of multiculturalism. Face of Nations is a story of journeys and experiences, a portrait of freedom and independence, a melting pot containing just one ingredient: the world.SINGOLE 00060_Captures_172_F 00070_Captures_057_E 00080_Captures_163_D DOPPIEAfro Beat in the City is a free, unconfined way to mix influences of African folk culture with the revolutionary avant-garde of the twentieth-century West. All in the name of freedom of expression against all stereotypes.

An impression of swing, rhythm and sound that resonate in iconic Coccinelle creations such as Ambrine and Arlettis, conveyed in unexpected materials and colours. Rattan, ethnic patterns, bold fastenings, zig zags, prints and embroidery blend just like on an imaginary totem pole. Materiality and craftsmanship merge, transforming every bag into a decorative self-statement of style and identity.

Frais et spontané boast gentler somatic traits, drawing inspiration from distant lands with more delicate undertones, the subtle shades of wild flowers and the freshness of meadow dew. Colours, nuances and prints offer a gentle, unexpected femininity and lightness, both authentic and contemporary. An air of romanticism barely implied by pastel suedes and two-tone lace details. Coccinelle steps out of the leather comfort zone, dabbling in new materials, using textiles and rattan, aspiring to become a mini urban picnic hamper for the city. And to finish, a fruit print with its very own childishness makes the range yet more ironic and sophisticated, embellishing sport nylon as much as the entire accessories range in the form of scarves, jewellery and hats.

It’s all about women. Everything begins with the two women who now head up Coccinelle’s creative team. All of their designs have function before form, fulfilling a modern woman’s wants and needs. Every bag holds every women’s emotions.

Coccinelle is available in Rustan’s.

Kendall Jenner as the Face of Longchamp F/W2018 Campaign

By | What's New at Rustan's | No Comments
LONGCHAMP ANNOUNCES KENDALL JENNER AS THE FACE OF THE COMPANY’S FALL/WINTER 2018 CAMPAIGN
Longchamp is thrilled to reveal its newest campaign star: Kendall Jenner. Jenner was approached for this partnership because she and Longchamp share the values of championing effortless worldliness, and of celebrating a global, versatile sense of style. Throughout Jenner’s experience in (and ascent to the top of) the modeling industry, she has exhibited an unwaveringly confident poise—a character trait that Longchamp both admires and infuses into its fashion and accessories collections.
“I think there’s this synergy between the term ‘world citizen’ and Longchamp. To me, a world citizen is someone who wants to share more of an understanding of different cultures,” says Jenner. With Longchamp, while the collection always has a touch of the Parisian, it is something that can be worn around the world, by women who support this idea.”
