 NO METAL SHANKS

Unlike most shoes,  Allen Edmonds are madewithout rigid metal shanks, allowing the foot andleg muscles to exercise and relax properly. The shoeflexes and molds to the foot.

 SOLES

Made of select  leather, Allen Edmonds soles  allowthe shoe to flex naturally as the foot does. AllenEdmonds also uses Dainite all-weather soles  toincrease traction  and Vibram® rubber soles on somecasual styles  that provide lasting wear andcomfort.

 CONTOURED LASTS

Allen Edmonds uses special  lasts that moreaccurately conform to the way the human foot is formed for a custom  fit. Pressure points on thefoot like the big toe, the ball, the outside arch and the heel are relieved by our carefullyconstructed lasts.  It is important that AllenEdmonds shoes be fit properly  using a Brannockdevice. Customers should try shoes in severaldifferent styles  to select  the last or lasts that aremore appropriate for their feet.

 LEATHER VAMP LININGS

Leather  linings in the vamp and a cotton doubler  promote  breathability ofthe foot in the shoe

and help control moisture and temperature. Allen Edmonds shoes have lapseam stitching on the

linings for a smooth, comfortable surface.

 CORK INSULATION

A cord layer between the insole and the outsoleallows each foot to form its own uniquely shaped footbed for real custom  comfort. The foot actuallyforms an imprint which cradles the feet.

The Strand is Allen Edmonds CEO & President Paul Grangaard’s favorite style! The relationship began in the early 1980s when, as a newly-minted banker eager for overseas experience, he had the good fortune of being transferred to Frankfurt, Germany. Given his age, inexperience and the language challenge inherent in the job, he was looking for a “credibility-enhancer” and some needed gravitas. So he bought his first pair of this distinctly American version of the classic senior executive’s cap-toe brogue. When he became head of Allen Edmonds in 2008, Paul made sure they were one of the first styles reintroduced in the Timeless Classics Collection. Built on the 5-Last, these balmorals are full of personality, thanks to an array of impressive perforations plus a striking medallion on the cap toe. Maybe it’s our Midwestern roots, but we like it when folks agree. That’s why we were so happy that everyone loved our Cavanaugh loafer, and it’s why we’ve taken that same design and given it a slightly new look. By adding a double tassel we’ve heightened its already harmonious contours that come from pairing the broader toe plug with the slightly shorter vamp. Also in perfect balance is the intricate handsewn construction of the upper and the durable Butyl leather sole—both of which allow for added flexibility in terms of form and function.
