How does one become a MasterChef? The right set of tools will definitely help. Rustan’s Supermarket continues to offer quality products with its release of MasterChef Knives. The hit reality TV cooking program featuring competing home cooks has developed a range of kitchen knives to help anyone level up their cooking skills, and they will be available this September.
Ask any chef and they’ll say their knives are some of their most prized possessions. A good, sharp knife makes prep work so much easier, and safer. Quicker, and less forceful strokes mean less damage to the food and to your fingers. Plus, it makes prep work more of a pleasure than a chore.
The MasterChef range contains eight knives of high-quality materials and expert design that come with a five-year warranty. The stainless steel knives have passed food grade requirements of four countries: Germany, France, USA, and Italy. The range contains the basics that every aspiring chef should own: a cleaver for heavy duty tasks; steak knives for easy meat cutting; a small and large Santoku knife for slicing, dicing, and mincing; an all-around cook’s knife; multi-functioning utility knife; and a sharpening steel.
Rustan’s Supermarket is making owning a quality knife set easier. From September 1 to November 30 every P300 spent in a single transaction at Rustan’s Supermarket will earn the shopper one sticker plus a minimum P100 spend on sponsor products gets the shopper a bonus sticker, so long as it doesn’t exceed three or the number of original stickers. There are 3 ways to collect the limited edition MasterChef Knives: 1) Collect enough stickers to get the knives for free 2) Combine stickers with cash 3) Buy the knives at retail price.
To complete your MasterChef kitchen essentials, shoppers who redeem a free MasterChef knife with their stickers can get the official MasterChef Apron for just P299. Be one of the 2500 proud owners of the official MasterChef aprons only available at Rustan’s Supermarket.

Dad would have turned 89 last September 4.
Dr. Ramon Syjuco de Jesus ( September 4, 1927) peacefully passed away at home surrounded by all his children at around 1230pm. He is now in heaven with Mommy Carmeling.
Dad was very much present in our lives even if he never required us to be in any event or occasion. He never demanded anything from us yet we all willingly and voluntarily do things for him and spend time with him. Dad never wanted to inconvenience anyone because he always thought of others before himself. My other dad, Dad Monching, is the closest person I know who is like the Pope. He has the same effect on me as the Pope, it is because of him that I want to do good and change for the good. And that is my promise to Dad. We will miss Dad tremendously but his memories and the memories from all of you, the people whose lives he has touched, will remain in all our hearts forever.

Reposting here a bday tribute I made for Dad on his 87th bday in 2014.
Happy 87th Birthday to my other Dad!!! Dad Monching or known to everyone as Dr. de Jesus. A well respected surgeon and the BEST in the country. A self made man and so accomplished.
Dad completed his GS and HS at St. James Academy ( run by the Maryknoll sisters ) in Malabon. In 1947, he went to Vermont on full scholarship at St. Michael’s College and graduated with a BS ( Biology ) degree, summa cum laude, in 1951. He then went to medical school at the University of Vermont and graduated in 1955. Dad then took his internship and residency in surgery at Columbia University in New York City, Afterwhich he stayed on at Columbia as a member of the faculty till 1963, when he went back to Manila for good. After having to review and take the Philippine board exams, Dad started his surgical practice in 1964. He worked at Manila Doctors Medical Center Manila and then Makati Medical Center ( when they opened in 1969). He taught at the UP Medical School in 1966 and was a professor for 26 years. Dad also became a doctor for Philippine Airlines ( PAL ) sometime in 1990 til 2012. Everyone in PAL knew Dr. de Jesus.
Dad is one of the nicest people in the planet. Ever since I met him, I never heard him say or do anything bad to anyone. Whenever I meet someone who knows Dad, they have all good things to say about Dad. Everytime we celebrate our birthday, Dad gives us the best gift, the gift of prayer and his wish for us to always have good health. Today and always we wish that back for him too because we LOVE him!
Just as Mom did when she passed away, we did not have a wake. We had the funeral mass at the earliest available booking in the church and so it happened the next day after we had cremated Dad
Thank you to Fr. Horacio Rodriguez and Fr. Julian Mazana for saying mass for Dad when he did not want to go out of the house anymore. We had 6 Sunday masses at home with Dad and so Dad was able to receive communion still
Beautiful singing by the Colegio San Agustin Church Ministry
The church was full which showed how many lives Dad has touched
Eulogies by

One Sunday lunch when Father Julian said mass for Dad, it was his birthday 🙂
So we celebrated 🙂 Happy Birthday Father Julian!! WE LOVE YOU!!! Father has been friends with our family for so long and he has been part of our lives – our celebrations and our happy moments!
It was Mike’s turn to host so we had Yuan’s paella and corned beef from the Plaza. We requested for Gloria to make salad because Father Julian loves salad

Boys and girls and kids at heart—step right up!
Tickles, the iconic homegrown novelty shop, opens its new flagship store at SM Megamall this September!
Since the early 80s, Tickles has been the go-to source for quirky gifts and fun knick-knacks, so it’s fitting that they’ve chosen a retro European circus theme for its new look. At 80sqm, the SM Megamall store is their biggest yet, about three times the size of their regular shops, and thrice the fun! With bright lights, carnival elements, and even a toy train chugging along overhead, stepping into the flagship store makes one feel like a kid all over again—whether you’re a longtime customer or a millennial discovering Tickles for the first time.
In fact, the idea for the rebranding came up when the team realized they piqued the interest of a new market: millenials. “We wanted to re-image the store to cater to the current generation, without losing the nostalgia factor for our core market,” says Carlo Tanseco, Tickles’ Creative Director.
“There are three generations now that shop here: but you don’t usually want to shop where your mom shops, right?” shares Chun-chi Soler, Chief Operating Officer of Tickles. “So Carlo’s challenge when designing the store was that it would appeal to all generations.” Thus, all the new Tickles branches now carry the circus theme (Power Plant Mall, TriNoma, UP Town Center, with the full effect seen at the SM Megamall flagship store), while the rest of the stores will soon be updated. Inside the stores, the merchandise is more focused and curated, and every corner of the store is highly-detailed and “Instagrammable.” Carlo adds, “There are some things the kids won’t get, there are some things the moms or dads won’t get. But some things are universal: laughter, happiness, things that make you smile.”
Go-To Gift Shop
Happiness has always been the guiding principle of Tickles, ever since it was established in 1979 by Yoya Tanseco, who is still its chairman and chief shopper to this day (“Except now I make detours to shop for clothes,” she winks conspiratorially). Yoya found joy in sourcing for “cutie-cutie” items from Japan and the US, knowing instinctively what people would love to give (and receive!). So when your present comes in that iconic yellow packaging—and now, in the new yellow and crimson vintage-style shopping bag—you know it’s going to be something cute and fun!
Trending
For a shop that’s been around for generations, you’ll be surprised how current and on-trend their novelty items are. From wacky food-themed plushies and witty pillows, to funny and quirky eye masks, they know exactly what will tickle the fancy of the Pinoy market. “You’ll find affordable gifts which relate to someone’s interests—whether it be a pig or a panda, plushie, pillow, phone case…We have a lot of ‘hugot’ items, too!” tips Chun-chi. “We also have items for the moms and dads, so it’s truly a one-stop gift shop,” adds Yoya.
And in an effort to offer more exciting, unique, and homegrown merchandise, Tickles now designs and manufactures many of their gift items. “Now, most of the items in the store are proprietary, which means we make it ourselves. Some of the items are still sourced, or made exclusively for us by international suppliers, but our focus is really to design our own items. Our goal is to be 100% Tickles-branded,” Carlo reveals.
“Our guiding principle is ‘happiness all year round,’ and that’s what we have in mind when we design or purchase items, from food plushies and party gifts, to pranks and tricks—anything to make you smile.”
Tickles is located at Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 1, Power Plant Mall, SM Megamall A, TriNoma, UP Town Center, Alabang Town Center, Market! Market!, Marquee Mall, Fairview Terraces, and Ayala Center Cebu.

Love the Starbucks Reserve @starbucksph at S’Maison At the Conrad Hotel Manila @smaison_conrad #StarbucksPh #SMaison #H2HStarbucks
Love the art works in the new Starbucks Reserve @starbucksph in @smaison_conrad It’s by Ella Hipolito who uses coffee to paint on her canvas ( Ella H Facebook ) Oftentimes, coffee serves a simple, if utilitarian, purpose: waking someone up. It’s that much needed pick-me-up to get up and get through the day.
It is not so often used as an artistic medium and expression, as one Ella Hipolito boldly does.
To understand her unsual artistic fusion, one must look to the very beginning. Ella’s artistic journey started in her hometown of San Mateo, Rizal. Here, nature was her backyard and animals her steadfast companions. She then went on to study and finish Fine Arts from The College of Holy Spirit.
She continued to cultivate her creative talents over the years, branching out to diverse fields and interests, from music to gastronomy. Ella’s resumé now boasts an eclectic range: artist, musician, chef – all passions-turned-professions.
Coffee on Canvas
Coffee painting is highly conceptual and breathing life into the process is almost experimental in nature. Ella takes great care in choosing and crafting elements and pieces, how they will react and blend with each other. Indeed, brewing her creations takes a certain skill and full understanding of coffee.
The result is a nuanced, textured, and provocative masterpiece of coffee’s journey to art. #PhilippineArt #H2HPhilippineArt #StarbucksPh #H2HStarbucks #CoffeeArt #EllaHipolito #EllaHipolitoCoffeeArt #smaison #StarbucksReservePh

We tried out the latest food concept of the FoodDee Global Concepts Group
What an amazing family business, that only goes to show that it is headed by a good leader, The father, Ricky Dee @beng_dee They were having lunch with a mall group and the whole family was there. Their personal attention to detail and hands on approach in the operations is admirable. Eric told me that his dad calls all of them every day to make sure they are at work and that they are on top of the business. It’s a business Ricky started 30 years ago with a restaurant in Pasay road. Truly a business from hard work. The group is opening 16 restos for the year – 3 Mesas, 3 Tim Ho Wans, 3 Pound by Todd English by December -Mega Fashion Hall, Glorietta and MOA, Hook, English, Davide Oldani , 2 Sunnies, 2 Llao Llao.
All of the kids are in the business except the youngest Bea who is still in College. Eric, the eldest, handles the restaurants because he’s the foodie in the family. He helped in the restaurant when he was still a kid and grew up in the business.
JR handles the retail side which is Sunnies and 4 malls Binan Laguna Dasmariñas Cavite, Binangonan rizal and Calamba Laguna, near Nuvali
Erika @erikadydee handles the Finance and Fastfood side where they have 88 food stalls – Chins Express, Inihaw Express and Handaan Grande and 1 food court in Globe Tower. Eric says that his Dad knows their strengths and that’s how he assigns their responsibilities. A close knit family that works together harmoniously and is successful. That’s rare nowadays. More power to the FoodDee Global Concepts group @foodeeglobalconcepts #SunniesCafe #FooddeeGlobalConcepts
Whenever I meet up with Eric @ericthomasdee , I am overwhelmed and get confused haha!! Because He’s so passionate, so energetic and so excited all the time – whether cooking up a new concept, opening a new location or just excited with the growing group! He’s only 32 years old and successful at what he does. This time we were at Sunnies Cafe @sunniescafe This is their 9th restaurant concept already and counting.
Sunnies @sunniesstudios is actually an eyewear store which is already 2 years old and has 40 stores handled by JR Dee @ericdeejr It’s a lifestyle brand so apart from the Cafe they plan to have salons, spas and others.
Sunnies Cafe is a California type resto where the family developed dishes which they liked from their travels. They just opened and they were full- full of happy diners. It’s rainy outside but sunny inside Sunnie’s Cafe. Soon to open in SM Megamall. #SunniesCafe #FooddeeGlobalConcepts @foodeeglobalconcepts
