The Halal Guys Press Launch - Evite_

The wait is over. Filipino fans have every reason to celebrate because the iconic American-Halal street food franchise has arrived in Manila.

Anyone who has been to the Big Apple would agree that the experience of traveling to New York is never complete without a visit to the world famous food cart. There’s nothing like marveling at the magnanimity of New York’s local scene while enjoying a hot platter of the delicious halal meat generously covered in their inimitable sauces. No matter the weather, the food cart gathers foodies from all over, who are more than willing to wait in line for the exotic yet mysteriously comforting fare. But there’s no need to take a trip to New York’s 53rd and 6th any time soon, because The Halal Guys are set to open their first international location here in the Philippines, with their first store at 5L, Mega Food Hall, SM Megamall.

Heart2Heart is so excited to see the Halal guys !! The guys behind the famous food truck in New York City.
The Halal Guys started in 1990, when founding partners, Muhammed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka and Abdelbaset Elsayed, opened a hotdog cart on West 53rd and 6th avenue. Due to the demand for quick and affordable Halal street food, specifically from the Muslim cab drivers, they decided to convert their cart into the city’s first Halal Street Food cart. Since then, the Halal Guys has steadily become the largest and most beloved American halal street food concept in the world.
Going Global
Currently, there are 5 food carts and 2 brick-and-mortar restaurants in New York. With the support of franchising giant, Fransmart, the brand is expanding across the US and around the world. The first stores that opened outside of New York, are Chicago and Costa Mesa, California. Plans are underway to open stores in Houston Texas, Philadelphia and Washington DC, among others. The Halal Guys, which has been dubbed as the next big thing in fast, casual dining, is also expanding globally, with the Philippines as its first international location. Other international franchise locations that are in the pipeline, include Malaysia, South Korea and Toronto.

I was so touched listening to the Halal Guys and Jaime when they spoke, truly a dream come true! “Whenever I’m in New York, I make it a point to eat at The Halal Guys. I’m a huge fan,” Jaime Daez, the man responsible for bringing in the world-famous food cart shares enthusiastically. Their food tastes great! I don’t know of any other restaurant in New York that offers that kind of value for money.” “According to Yelp, The Halal Guys is the highest rated restaurant in New York. I am very excited to bring that same experience to Manila.” Manila can anticipate a complete experience of the wildly popular menu. The very same menu offered in the famous New York food carts and brick-and-mortar shops, and the same menu that made The Halal Guys famous worldwide. This includes everything from the rice platters (chicken, gyro, combos) to sandwiches (chicken, gyro, combos); from falafels down to their iconic white sauce and hot sauce. Manila can anticipate a complete experience of the wildly popular menu. Mission Church of Carmel

By | Travel | No Comments

This photo is so miraculous! How the clouds look like rays beaming from the Carmel Mission. Founded June 3, 1770. It stands today as a monument to the great “Missionary of the Cross” who left his home and the comforts of a conventional life to come to our Western wilderness to preach the Gospel of Christ and to teach California’s Native Americans. The Blessed Junipero Serra Of the order of Franciscan friars. He was canonized by Pope Francis during his visit to the USA  Mission Church of Carmel (2)

Mission Ranch

By | Travel | No Comments

“The historic Mission Ranch on 22 acres with spectacular views of Point Lobos, Carmel River Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Once one of the first dairies in California, the rich history of this 1800’s ranch was preserved and restored by former Carmel Mayor, Clint Eastwood. A longtime Carmel resident, Clint Eastwood rescued this landmark resort from condo developers, and renovated the entire property to provide a unique resort experience. The Inn now consists of 31 hotel rooms located within ten buildings on the property. While dining at the restaurant, known for its American Cuisine and Piano Bar, you can watch the sheep graze in the meadow. Located just 9 blocks south of downtown Carmel and 8 blocks from Carmel Beach, the views and quiet location make the Ranch a special place for romantic getaways, weddings, corporate dinners or family vacations. The property is also the home of the Mission Ranch Tennis and Fitness Club which guests are welcome to enjoy during their stay.” ( http://www.missionranchcarmel.com)

17-Mile Drive

By | Travel | No Comments

Since we were already on the 17 Mile Drive – we drove it.  Our guide was the red lines on the road. The 17-Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove on the Monterey Peninsula in California, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses, mansions and scenic attractions, including the Lone Cypress, Bird Rock and the 5,300-acre Del Monte Forest of Monterey Cypress trees.

The drive serves as the main road through the gated community of Pebble Beach. Inside this community, nonresidents have to pay a toll to use the road. Like the community, the majority of 17-Mile Drive is owned and operated by the Pebble Beach Corporation. The 17-Mile Drive is a 17-mile (27 km)-long scenic loop having four primary entrances – the main highway entrance at California State Route 1, and entrances in Carmel and Pacific Grove. ( Wikipedia)

The Lone Cypress Tree in the 17 Mile Drive is the highlight of the drive. It is the most photographed tree!

Standing on a granite hillside off California’s scenic 17-mile drive in Pebble Beach, the Lone Cypress is a western icon, and has been called one of the most photographed trees in North America. The tree is located between Cypress Point Golf Course and the Pebble Beach Golf Links, two of world’s most well known golf courses. Possibly as old as 250 years, the cypress has been scarred by fire and held in place with cables for 65 years.

The Monterey Cypress grows naturally only in Pebble Beach and Point Lobos

A drawing of the tree was registered as Pebble Beach Company’s trademark in 1919. The company, said the trademark protected not only the logo but also the tree itself ( Wikipedia)

They  bring to this exciting, multi-sensory exhibit a taste of their individual works showcasing how they continue to evolve as artists and what makes them forces to contend with.

Suzette Bernardo-Montelibano is a rare gem among a sea of photographers who continues to elevate and differentiate fine art photography with her insightful eye for architectural lines even in the most ordinary of things, bringing to light what one is unable to see before.Confluence2 (16)

  Take2 for Artis3
After a successful artistic confluence last year, Artis3 has once more come together for another collaboration taking their artistry to a whole new level.
Boldness is perhaps what comes to mind as they bolt out of their comfort zones, taking on an approach that is not usually expected of them. This time, they sought to view nature with an eye for the abstract.Confluence2 (14)
Master potter Lanelle Abueva-Fernando, mosaic artist Lisa de Leon-Zayco, and fine art photographer Suzette Bernardo-Montelibano share their passions to create pieces of mix media never done before. At first glance, you cannot help but be awed by the beautiful, cohesive whole. However, you will find that it draws you in, pulls you in realizing that the minute details hold the uniqueness of each art genre thereby telling more stories than meets the eye. You can almost feel the hand print in the pottery, the nips and cracks of each tesserae, and the blend of light and color of the photograph that holds it together.
It is disrupting yet calming. Bold yet graceful. Powerful yet refined.Confluence2 (21)

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

By | Toys for the Big Boys, Travel | No Comments

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is an annual event since 1950 where only the best and most rare cars from all over the world are invited to exhibit and compete at the beautiful venue, the 18th Fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Link.   First conducted in 1950, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is often said to be the world’s premier celebration of the automobile. Only the most beautiful and rare automobiles are invited to appear on the famed eighteenth fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links each year, and connoisseurs of art and technology congregate to see them. This year 219 cars from 16 countries competed at the event.

Over 15,000 attendees at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance.  A car show with a breathtaking venue – the 18th Fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Link by the waters.  A 1924 Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A Cabriolet ( right ) won the competition.

Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance (8) It is a very well attended event and at the same time, a donation is made to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation.  This year they were able to raise $2 million and around $20 million since they started 65 years ago.

“I continue to be inspired by the generosity of the collector car community,” said Concours Chairman Sandra Button. “Entrants bring their automotive treasures here to share with others, judges bring their expertise, sponsors often debut new cars and provide items for opportunity drawings—and, together, we are able to make a solid contribution to better the lives of others.”

“It is easy to see the affluence of this area, but we cannot overlook the many needs in this county,” Pebble Beach Company CEO William Perocchi said. “It’s because of the generosity of our donors and charity partners that we can significantly impact the lives of Monterey County residents. The money raised during this event, and in turn distributed to our community partners, helps those in need.”  It is a worthwhile event to see even atleast once in your life if you love cars.  And for the rest of the family, definitely something to enjoy as well and continue on to visit Monterey, Carmel and the Big Sur which are in the near vicinity of the show.
