Always a Tourist in NYC

By | Travel | No Comments

Whenever I go to New York, I always tell myself I am just going to stay home but every time I go back there is always so many new things to see!! It’s really the city that never sleeps! 🙂

Giant Hello Kitty in midtown.

From the New York Observer : Japanese artist Sebastian Masuda is bringing his multi-city Time After Time Capsule project to the Big Apple in the form of a nine-foot-tall giant sculpture of Kitty that New Yorkers can deposit personal objects into. The sculpture will go on view April 29 through September 13 at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza at 47th Street and 2nd Avenue, just around the corner from Japan Society.

The main feature of the project are large-scale, hallow sculptures of kawaii characters (the Japanese-exported “cute” phenomena, which has exploded worldwide and garnered Tokyo’s Harajuku fashion district international notoriety). The artist, who has been active on the Japanese youth culture scene since 1995, is also the director of 6%DOKIDOKI, a kawaii concept story in Harajuku. The project kicked off in Miami at last year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, and will move to Amsterdam after its NYC run. At each location, programming will be held for children and families where they’ll be encouraged to combine their personal objects with pieces from the 6%DOKIDOKI line, and add them to the time capsule. Sculptures from each city will reunite in 2020 in Tokyo for the city’s summer Olympics

Grand Opening of the New Michael Kors Building

By | SSI Group Inc | No Comments

We are pleased to announce the opening of the Michael Kors Building at God’s Love We Deliver’s newly renovated SoHo headquarters. The building also includes the Anna Wintour Volunteer Center and the Joan Rivers Bakery, both of which were dedicated as part of today’s ceremonies.

Michael Kors, Anna Wintour and Melissa Rivers joined Mayor Bill de Blasio and other notable New Yorkers as well as God’s Love staff, donors, and volunteers to celebrate the launch of the new facility in a special ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony. The ARC gospel choir joined the day’s festivities, singing “I’m Working On A Building,” “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher,” and “Oh Happy Day.”

God's Love We Deliver Celebrates Return To Soho With Dedication Of New Michael Kors Building

“With the dedication of our expanded facility, we will, together with our thousands of caring and committed volunteers and supporters, continue to serve the most vulnerable among us, meeting an ever-increasing demand for our program,” said Karen Pearl, President & CEO of God’s Love We Deliver. “Every day, more and more sick and hungry New Yorkers reach out to God’s Love looking for help. The Michael Kors Building allows us to continue to respond to the urgent needs of our clients for years to come. We will provide all those who need us with life-sustaining – and life-affirming – services at no charge and without a waiting list.”

The God’s Love expansion project, which was made possible, in part, by an $8 million city grant and private gifts, including more than $5 million from designer Michael Kors, more than doubles the organization’s space – from 18,000 square feet to over 48,500 square feet.

The nonprofit has been cooking and delivering nutritious, individually-tailored meals to people living with severe illnesses in the metropolitan area for over 30 years and currently serves more than 1.4 million meals to some 5,200 people each year. The new Michael Kors Building allows the organization to meet the growing demand for its services, up 94% over the last eight years.

The facility includes a new bakery, named The Joan Rivers Bakery in honor of the late comedian, talk-show host and author who supported God’s Love for over 25 years and sat on the Board of Directors for 20 years. It also plays home to The Anna Wintour Volunteer Center, honoring Anna Wintour’s more than 20 years of service and support to God’s Love and made possible through a gift by Michael Kors, Lance Le Pere, John Idol and the Michael Kors company.

In addition to these spaces, the new facility also includes an expanded delivery and pack-out area, an enclosed loading dock and rooftop garden where herbs will be grown for the food that the non-profit organization plans to serve.

“God’s Love We Deliver has been helping and healing our community for more than 30 years, bringing home-cooked meals to people who are ill and, in the process, turning strangers into neighbors,” said Michael Kors. “They are a precious resource for so many people, and it’s a privilege to be able to help them grow and expand their vital mission.”

In the Philippines, Michael Kors is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc., a member of the SSI Group Inc., and is located at The Power Plant Mall, Greenbelt 5, Rustan’s Makati, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Newport and Bonifacio High Street Central Square. We went to the Meat Packing District,  99 Gansevoort Street and saw the new Whitney Museum which just opened last May 1.

It’s situated between the High Line and the Hudson River, the Whitney’s new building vastly increases the Museum’s exhibition and programming space, providing the first comprehensive view of its unsurpassed collection of modern and contemporary American art.
Whitney Museum Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the new building includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor galleries and 13,000 square feet of outdoor exhibition space and terraces facing the High Line. An expansive gallery for special exhibitions is approximately 18,000 square feet in area, making it the largest column-free museum gallery in New York City. Additional exhibition space includes a lobby gallery (accessible free of charge), two floors for the permanent collection, and a special exhibitions gallery on the top floor. Untitled by Danny Meyer at the Whitney Museum (2)
