Dorm Room Checklist

By | Education, For kids | 6 Comments

The kids are assigned to a house ( dorm )

Common areas

We arrived early and had a headstart in organizing the room

dorm-room-checklist-019.jpgdorm-room-checklist-02.jpg

This is it! 🙂

dorm-room-checklist-01.jpgdorm-room-checklist-04.jpgdorm-room-checklist-03.jpg

We decided to rearrange the room to give each of the kids fair chance of having their own bed space so no one has to be on top of the double deck.  So this is what we changed it to ( though I heard they already rearranged it after living there for a few weeks, I am still waiting for the photo 🙂  )

More storage space on top of the room

Thanks to some friends who helped us out an gave us a list of all the things we would need in the dorm.  We were guided so well in buying the things.  Even the stores were very prepared, they already have printed checklists which you can grab in the front of the store and use it as a guide.  It’s so common in the States that they are such experts at dorm living!

The boys brought all the things up!! And let Mommy do the unpacking!!! Oh my! 🙂  They went to do other things that were needed – books, etc etc

dorm-room-checklist-060.jpg

For comfort since the mattresses could be quite old.   I want my son to have a good rest at night after all he will be studying very very hard! 🙂

dorm-room-checklist-061.jpg

I bought this pen so I could mark all his things!! in case it gets misplaced!

dorm-room-checklist-063.jpgdorm-room-checklist-062.jpgdorm-room-checklist-064.jpg

I bought dymo tape that you can iron on clothes

Name stickers to stick on school supplies

dorm-room-checklist-042.jpg

FOOD!!!  In case of emergency! 🙂

dorm-room-checklist-065.jpgdorm-room-checklist-066.jpg

For his few valuables

Tote to bring to the shower plus all the toiletries

School supplies from Staples

Bed lamp for reading

For all devices!

dorm-room-checklist-072.jpg

Phone with a very very long cord!

dorm-room-checklist-074.jpg

We bought those portable plastic drawers to put under the bed for additional storage – plenty bottled water, drinks, food and toiletries.  We figured it would be best to stock up so he does not have to go out of campus just to buy little things

dorm-room-checklist-026.jpgdorm-room-checklist-025.jpg

After 3 hours, Mommy was tired!!! And this was the room

dorm-room-checklist-032.jpgdorm-room-checklist-033.jpgdorm-room-checklist-029.jpgdorm-room-checklist-037.jpgdorm-room-checklist-031.jpg

The closet 🙂

dorm-room-checklist-035.jpg

Still some space left which I am sure will get full as time goes by

dorm-room-checklist-036.jpg

Thanks to Lola Menchu for remembering to pack these!

dorm-room-checklist-046.jpg

After around 2 hours of me fixing, the roomate arrived

 dorm-room-checklist-076.jpg

with 6 other family members!! WOW!!  It was a family affair 🙂 and he was lucky he had a lot of help – they finished unpacking even before me!

dorm-room-checklist-075.jpg

We were so happy to know that his roomate had a good family background! They even invited him already for Christmas to stay over! 🙂

dorm-room-checklist-077.jpg

Soon after lunch, they already had activities!!  Jaime was kicking us out already!! He was so excited!

dorm-room-checklist-041.jpg

Oh my! Mess already – we had not even left yet! 🙂

dorm-room-checklist-043.jpg

We went down to see what they were doing- they were already having dorm activities and last we saw was they were passing a football around – hmmm…

Registration Day at SPS

By | Education, For kids | One Comment

I love how they make a ritual out of registering.  I dont ever remember having to do any of this when I was a kid.  We just go to school and go to our classroom!

In fact James and I are enjoying this tremendously – especially James 🙂  How he wished he had the chance to go to boarding school when he was younger.  I think he is the one more excited! 🙂

registration-day-at-sps-01.jpg

I just had to take a photo of the police…. How cool 🙂

registration-day-at-sps-02.jpg

First step is to go to this building to meet the head master

registration-day-at-sps-027.jpg

And It’s a tradition for the students to go to this desk…..

registration-day-at-sps-07.jpg

….to officially sign their name that they are a student of this school!

registration-day-at-sps-05.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-06.jpg

Then proceed to the tents by the chapel

registration-day-at-sps-04.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-09.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-08.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-010.jpg

They give each student a CFL bulb!

registration-day-at-sps-011.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-012.jpg

 Beverage station 🙂

registration-day-at-sps-013.jpg

Entering again the chapel

registration-day-at-sps-014.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-015.jpg

A big brother or sister ( for the girls ) will be assigned to each new student. During registration they personally take you around and bring you to your house.  This is Chris di Giacomo – form VI and big brother of Jaime.  He is in the football team 🙂

registration-day-at-sps-016.jpg

Beautiful Choir room behind the chapel.  It’s rare to see old buildings and old historical places.  I am hoping my son will learn to appreciate these things!

registration-day-at-sps-017.jpg

The old chapel.  Some school rituals and traditions are still held here.  Students spend their first and last night here

registration-day-at-sps-018.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-019.jpg

As the number of students increased, this became small to have their morning chapel

registration-day-at-sps-021.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-020.jpg

The clinic!  It’s a building on its own and I was so happy they had this.  This gave me more peace of mind!  The school has a full time clinic for the kids

registration-day-at-sps-023.jpg

The nurse said that the kids can call the clinic anytime for anything!! They even told the kids not to call their parents but to call them first!  and they will be the one to call the parents 🙂

registration-day-at-sps-024.jpgregistration-day-at-sps-022.jpg

I’m so glad they had this poster up!

SPS Athletic and Fitness Center

By | Education, For kids, Sports | No Comments

We always take a tour of the Sports facilities.  In boarding school, it is very important for each student to have a sport, so this is an important venue for the kids.  I am just so impressed with their facilities!!!

St. Paul’s School, New Hampshire

Arrived at St. Paul’s School in New Hampshire!  WOW!! So far, among all the boarding schools we have visited, I like this campus the most!  Beautiful greenery, layout of buildings, and interiors.

The map of the campus!  It’s a whole world in itself.  The kids just stay inside the campus and it is self contained
