Chef Javs Cooks for Papa’s Birthday

By | Celebrations, Foodie, For kids | 2 Comments

Lola Menchu and Javs had a good idea for Papa’s birthday!  Javier was to cook the entire dinner!  Javs loves cooking in Lola’s kicthen because he has the whole place to himself and Lola provides all the ingredients!  haha 🙂 They go shopping together all over the place- Rustan’s and Gourmet Garage

Here is the Chef in action wearing a Chef’s hat and apron! So cute!!

It’s so hard to take his photo because he gets mad at me

Safari theme by Mom 🙂

It was a very very good dinner, we all loved the food from beginning til end.  One day he told us he will be the first to open the first Michelin star restaurant in the Philippines!  🙂

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-5.JPGchef-javs-cooks-for-papa-08.jpg

He has been cooking this several times already and I keep telling him to repeat so he can master the dish and true enough he is perfecting many of his dishes

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-4.JPG

I taught him this before which we tried from Cibo – but he did it differently, he put cheese inside the squash flower and it was really really good

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-02.jpg

This is one of his masterpieces and everyone loved!  Turkey which he brined overnight and cooked with maple syrup and goose fat!  That’s his own invention 🙂

Goose fat from Gourmet Garage Subic

Not to mention the Foie gras stuffing which he made!  YUM!!!!

Javs bought Kurobota pork at Rustan’s supermarket and he made it into Tonkatsu – it was very very good!

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-9.JPG

Lola Menchu and Javs went to Salcedo market to get the fresh crabs and seabass.  WOW!!

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-09.jpg

His leche flan is also very good- he used the egg yolks which he separated from the whites which he used for the sea bass

James Birthday Celebration

By | Celebrations | No Comments

We had a very simple celebration for James’ birthday.  To make it easier for Dad, we just bring the dinner to him so we just order out and eat at home with Dad

james-birthday-7.jpg

Just to make it a but different from the normal, I set it up a bit.  Thank you to Windsor and Tiffany for the beautiful black chairs which immediately changed the mood of the dinner and gave us more room in the table rather than the usual chairs we have here

Happy Birthday Osquito

By | Celebrations, Foodie | 3 Comments

My friend, Bambi, always invites me and she makes sure she invites me way way in advance that sometimes I actually forget to put it in my calendar.  Yet I know she will not take it against me because she is my true friend 🙂  My hijado Osquito ( named after grandpa Oscar ) was celebrating his  first birthday so Mommy Bambi prepared a feast for the family.  She cooked everything ( except the arroz caldo and lechon)

 happybirthdayosquito-11.JPGhappybirthdayosquito-10.JPG

One of her specialties, lengua!  Wow, this was wiped out the first!  She sent this to us for Christmas too and was much appreciated

Paella

This was the only thing she did not make

Oh plus the lechon which flew in from Bacolod – and she made sure we got first and served us the skin.  Oh boy 🙂

Life is Good

Guess who joined me today for bootcamp?  My best friend Eds!  We planned it last minute last night since she wanted to have breakfast and go to mass!  Instead I dragged her to come with me to exercise 🙂  There she is in the middle holding Ned 🙂

bootcamp-at-manila-polo-club.jpeg602338_4503751006089_839508807_n.jpg

We did half class of bootcamp since I wanted her to try also Retro class which I knew she would enjoy.  I did 30 minutes more and she continued for an hour 🙂

After exercising, I invited all of my bestfriends to breakfast.  All of this was unplanned and just last minute plans of getting together.  The thing is, this was how I was envisioning how I would have wanted to spend my birthday – nothing fancy but just being with my best friends – my husband, James, my girl bestfriend Eds and my boy bestfriend Ned 🙂  What more could I ask for?

breakfast-with-bestfriends.jpeg561553_4481350566092_1558132137_n.jpg

Eds and I shared a Polo Club sandwich and Of course Ned had the healthy breakfast.  James could not wait till 9am to have breakfast so he just sat with us.  Thank you Ned for treating us for breakfast!!

I planned to be in the office by 930am but ended up arriving at 11am, had a meeting, signed some papers and left.   Shared a cake which my other office family gave me ( Thank you for my cute cake ) with my Golden Spoon family in the office.  I saw my sister there so I was able to spend time with another bestfriend of mine. Didnt get to take her photo though

And Chef Javs had to rush home to cook for dinner.  He insisted on eating at home and him cooking despite my wishes to just eat out! 🙂  But he is always so sweet to want to cook for us.  Invited Dad and Mom to join our little celebration

I did not know that it was going to be a night of entertainment so I was not really ready for video, but luckily I was able to capture each one who sang that evening.  And I thought it was only Ryan who sings!!  The whole family loves to sing or play an instrument!  With the lovely Pinky Marquez leading the show together with Raymond – it was a lovely night of music.

Nice to be back at the W to dine at the Goose station, The last time was Carmina’s birthday in 2010 when they had just opened

Lolo Jun and Lola Menchu wanted to treat Jaime who was here on Spring break vacation.  Javier suggested the Goose Station though he could not join us that evening

Choice of Express Menu or Degustation

celebratingatthegoose4.jpgcelebratingatthegoose7.JPGcelebratingatthegoose8.JPG

This is my favorite way of having a meal – a little of everything, no buffet where you have to stand up several times, and you can have a peaceful and uninterrupted conversation with your companions.

We were five in the table and four of them chose Memory, I refused to have the same since I like to try as many dishes as possible.  So James and I shared with each other and we got to try all.  It was a wonderful dinner, Jaime of course enjoyed his brother’s recommendation.

Both degustations gets the same amuse bouche

Celebrating Starbucks 200 stores and 15 Years in the Philippines with Howard Schultz

By | Celebrations, What's New at Starbucks? | 9 Comments

We have all been looking forward to this day – for Howard Schultz to come and visit our country.  To all of us, Howard symbolizes not only Starbucks, the great coffee company, but LOVE and HUMANITY which he explains so well in his speech during the opening of the 200th store.  I could listen to this over and over again and get inspired.   I am merely the daughter of Jun and Menchu yet the overflowing love within the Starbucks organization is reaching me and reaching everyone that steps in a Starbucks store.  This is only a 4 minute speech but it is very beautiful and has a very meaningful message from Howard!  These kinds of words can only come from the heart
