Vilebrequin Spring Summer 2011 Collection

2011 SPRING SUMMER COLLECTION THE AFRICAN SPIRIT…

Land of magic… Land of contrast… Africa is a world full of emotions, high in colors, with primitive sensations for a return to the source, to our ancestral roots. The one that reminds us that Africa is the cradle of humanity.

A safari ticket, towards a fascinating and enchanting land. An initiatory journey towards the discovery of wild animals: elephants, giraffes, and Numidia guineas. Crossing the savanna landscape with its majestic scenery, flowery baobabs…

vilebrequin-ss-2011-collection-01.jpg

Then make a stop to the large beaches of thin sand full of sea lions and shells or navigate in the trail

of whales.

vilebrequin-ss-2011-collection-03.jpgvilebrequin-ss-2011-collection-04.jpg vilebrequin-ss-2011-collection-07.jpg

Meet a woman from the famous Ndebele village known for its pictorial art or share the hospitality of a Bambara hut while contemplating the sunset. A trip for the amateurs of the wild, big spaces and adventures. The dream of a total change of scenery.

vilebrequin-ss-2011-collection-09.jpg

Southern Africa… This season Vilebrequin takes us into the thick of a thrilling safari. Amidst bird calls you see landscapes saturated with a rich palette of endless colors and lights that range from the paleness of dawn over the still savanna to the incandescence of the sun setting on the Okavongo Delta. It is a journey ripe with sensations.

 vilebrequin-ss-2011-collection-08.jpg

Do you know the legend of Little Guineafowl? Little Guineafowl was a painter whose gray-black plumage studded with tiny white sparkles was a source of pride that caused envy among all the animals of the savanna. One day a leopard came to find him: “Little Guineafowl, could you paint me a coat as handsome as yours?” In exchange for a few worms from an antelope that had been hunted down by the leopard and buried not far from his workshop, Little Guineafowl created the leopard’s sumptuous spotted fur. Next the hyena came calling. But the devious hyena did not hold up her end of the deal. Little Guineafowl, furious to have been cheated, tossed his bucket of paint on the hyena’s head, which is why todays hyenas are so ugly…

 vilebrequin-ss-2011-collection-05.jpg

Just like the talented Little Guineafowl of Numibia, Vilebrequin has designed next summer’s swimsuits: Cape Town’s Fur Seals, the elephants of the Namib Desert, giraffes from the Tanzanian plains, majestic hundred year old baobab trees, and of course, the Namibian guinea fowl.

 vilebrequin-ss-2011-collection-06.jpg

Around the bend of a trail we head for the villages of Ndebele, famed for their pictorial art, to hear even more legends whispered around a campfire. We gather inspiration not only from the wall paintings that decorate their huts which only woman are allowed to create, but also from their pagnes, a textile crafted from “wax” fabric which dates to the arrival of the first Europeans in western Africa.

Vilebrequin: a collection designed like a voyage of discovery through the African bush…

In the Philippines, VILEBREQUIN is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and is located at Greenbelt 5 and Rustan’s Makati.

Furla Spring Summer 2011 Donna Collection

By | Fashion, What's New at Rustan's | 3 Comments

SPRING-SUMMER 2011 COLLECTION TECHNO NATURE

The Furla Spring Summer 2011 collection is a study in contrasts. Clear forms, essential lines and an extreme attention to function and proportions are typical of the Furla tradition. These are beautifully combined with materials and chromatic contrasts that evoke lush vegetation. The collection features a festival of bright colors borrowed from a tropical garden; from avocado to acai berries, from passion fruit to mango, contrasting with neutral desert and savannah tones that range from coconut white to various shades of brown.

A triumph of nature that represents our vision of the exotic, fantasy realm. New materials, such as carved or braided calfskin, wrinkled or crocodile printed leather, with a precious and sophisticated look, offer rich textures that highlight the rigorous and essential lines and forms of the bags. In addition, there are bags and shoes constructed from rubber. These new and futuristic versions use modern technologies and are proposed in transparent, solid colors as well as lively multi-color versions.

FURLA PRESENTS THE CANDY BAG SPRING SUMMER 2011

A stylistic contrast between contemporary of forms, cutting-edge materials and bright colors is the basis for the “Candy Bag” collection launched by Furla for the spring-summer 2011. A little trunk in a special type of PVC, soft but highly resistant, born of a specific production process that combines revolutionary and advanced technology offered by the use of an innovative injection mould for the production of the bag’s components, and traditional hand-stitching used during assembly.

furla-candy-custom.JPG

A lovely metal lock, which can be either charm or keychain, decorates the zipper closure of the bag.

The brilliant colors of tropical flora, like green, fuchsia, orange, blue, and yellow, together with the shining transparency characteristic of PVC, make the Candy bag a must-have for its fantasy, proportions, and functionality.

SPRING SUMMER 2011 FOOTWEAR COLLECTIONCONTEMPORARY GLAMOUR

This collection is an exercise in understatement combining gracefully sophisticated shapes with quirky detailing and applications like flamboyant bows, flower-shaped tassels or take-it-easy knots.

The novel use of colored rubber soles softens the sharp elegance of the shoes to give them a more contemporary feel and a unique identity all of their own.

The original materials with bags of character, like colored reptile-print leather, glitter fabric and extra-bright rubber, make this a fun collection of uber-glam appeal.

The classic uptown sandals have an especially girly attraction thanks to the fine satin and micromesh used which are as floaty and gossamer-like as voile, to create an overall appeal that will charm for its understated elegance.

Le Sportsac Joyrich Collection

le-sportsac-launch-opening039-small.jpeg

Known for its collaborations with names like Gwen Stefani, Stella McCartney, and Lilly Pulitzer, LeSportsac gears up for its Spring 2011 season with the brand’s latest collaborative partner, JOYRICH.

The Los Angeles design house, a stand-out brand in the contemporary streetwear market, interprets its vision of high-end yet accessible apparel, in this new collection with LeSportsac. The concept for the collaboration is a fusion of LeSportsac’s accessibility and universality with JOYRICH’s edgy and colorful sensibility that is high-end in appearance and contains a playful 90’s take on luxury brands.

The collection is available in 16 classic LeSportsac styles that have been given the JOYRICH treatment. All styles include JOYRICH’s signature gold triangle and to give the bags a more luxe feel all hardware and zipper pulls will also be in gold. LeSportsac’s iconic weekenders, Classic Hobo, Erika Tote, a bookbag, and a couple of cosmetics are just some of the styles included in the collection. The Pixie has been given a gold chain strap twinned with LeSportsac’s iconic grosgrain and the Heart Pouch have been given a removable crossbody chain mirroring the Pixie’s.

le-sportsac-launch-opening027-custom.jpegle-sportsac-launch-opening028-custom.jpegle-sportsac-launch-opening029-custom.jpeg

The JOYRICH Paula and Trislet will also include gold chain substitutions. The collaboration also reintroduces the Leigh duffle bag that functions as a tote or an extra roomy handbag. Laptop sleeves also make a re-appearance with added straps for more functionality. To add to all the gold and to enhance the fun of the collection, select styles will include an exclusive gold JOYRICH charm — a special gift with purchase that can be clipped to a belt loop, key-ring or just about anything.

le-sportsac-launch-opening025-custom.jpeg

JOYRICH also created three prints for the collection in custom fabrications. Chain is sateen that is inspired by the various gold elements of 90/80’s fashion—a fun and playful take on an oversized gold chain.

le-sportsac-launch-opening024-custom.jpeg

Numbered, a coated nylon, is inspired by luxury brands—a JOYRICH interpretation of classic monogram prints done a lighthearted ironic way. Another coated nylon, Leopard reflects JOYRICH’s love for animal prints and is a reflection of one of the brand’s best-selling prints.

le-sportsac-launch-opening021-custom.jpeg

The hot pink glitter element of print was done exclusively for LeSportsac. Shiny Quilted takes LeSportsac’s bestselling black patent and gives it a JOYRICH luxury feel with its chic quilting—a first for LeSportsac.

le-sportsac-launch-opening023-custom.jpeg

JOYRICH has created three new prints to run alongside the recurring Shiny Quilted, the quilted JOYRICH take on the classic LeSportsac black patent. The brand sticks to the stapleLeSportsac material of rip-stop nylon with the Union Jack print, a very direct reflection of the trend of the Union Jack in fashion. The print comes in two to-scale sizes, its bigger version meant to be carried on the bigger bags, and its smaller version on the smaller accessories. Similarly, Wonder Rose comes also in Wonder Rose Big. It is of cotton canvas material and showcases a crowd of roses against a white background. Jungle Cat remodels the standard animal print, a fundamental love of JOYRICH, as a mélange of various prints in a contemporary patchwork style.

LeSportsac teams up with Jeremyville for Spring Summer 2011

This Spring Summer 2011 LeSportsac welcomes everyone into the world of Jeremyville, the brand’s new Artist in Residence Jeremyville, artist and product designer, splits his time between 2 very contrasting studios: his chilled Bondi Beach studio in Sydney by the ocean, and his frantic studio in the Lower East Side of Downtown New York. The theme in this range that he created for LeSportsac is called ‘Inspirations’, and is based on the many sketches drawn in the neighborhood cafes of his 2 studios, and the imaginary landscapes made real by his pen. Traveling the world with his sketchbook, pen, and laptop in his backpack, Jeremyville’s studio is anywhere he opens up a blank page and starts drawing, and the 3 themes of this range reflect the spontaneity and inspiration he gets from the neighborhoods he is in:

Bondi Beach Sketchbook

This theme is based on the scenes from his neighborhood in Bondi Beach, where he grew up as a kid, and now has his studio: The skate park outside his window on Campbell Parade, the cafes he hangs out at on Hall Street, drawing, thinking and sketching, and the great surf of Bondi Beach. The beach at Bondi has always been a strong inspiration for Jeremyville, and his days are spent running along the sand or swimming in the ocean pool, then drawing these experiences back at the studio, or while having a coffeewith his creative partner Megan at the Icebergs Pool by the ocean’s edge, while the surf crashes 5 metres away.

le-sportsac-launch-opening031-custom.jpeg

Jeremyville NYC

Jeremyville’s favorite place on earth, New York City. Based on his drawings of each distinct neighborhood, and his iconic aerial views he imagines as he walks down the avenues of Manhattan, with his sketchbook in his ever-present shoulder bag. The frenetic energy of the Lower East Side is a particular inspiration, his studio is there, just off Rivington Street, and the noise and inspiration coming from the sidewalks feeds Jeremyville’s street art, fine art and toy design.

le-sportsac-launch-opening035-custom.jpeg

Tomorrow Forest

An imaginary, surreal world from the sketchbooks of Jeremyville, populated with strange furry creatures, enigmatic birdpeople, and lots of smiling mushroom creatures, with a faraway look in their eyes. The mascot of the theme ‘Inspirations’is the Magic Bunny, the furry muse of Jeremyville for this range he created for LeSportsac. The Magic Bunny followed him everywhere during this project, whispered occasionally into his ear, and guided Jeremyville with his drawings. You can find the Magic Bunny on a special shaped bag created for this range.

le-sportsac-launch-opening037-custom.jpeg le-sportsac-launch-opening038-custom.jpeg

All three prints are available in all ten original Artist in Residence styles. The collection will also include two exclusive styles made especially for the Jeremyville collection: the Bunny Tote (a whimsical take on the brand’s zip top shopper featuring a screen printed face of Jeremyville’s iconic bunny with actual nylon bunny ears that flop over the screen print) and small bunny Pouch that mirrors its bigger tote cousin.

Superga Spring Summer 2011 Collection & Alexa Chung

By | Fashion, Summer, What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

The Style Icon Alexa Chung becomes the Face of Superga for their Centennial Anniversary

Alexa Chung, British model and TV personality, elected “Style Icon 2010” at the latest Fashion Awards and already defined by fashion magazines as the “best-dressed woman 2009 and 2010”, will team up with the Basic Group becoming the new face for Superga. To celebrate Superga’s centennial year anniversary, Alexa has chosen to wear, as icon of her everyday wardrobe, the historical 2750, a must-have for all those to whom style is a daily choice.

alexa-chung-for-superga-01.jpgalexa-chung-for-superga-02.jpgalexa-chung-for-superga-03.jpgalexa-chung-for-superga-04.jpg

It is no coincidence that also in the United Kingdom, the iconic sneaker is selling like hot cakes in cult stores, such as ASOS, Flannels and Oi Polloi, as well as on the famous fashion website my-wardrobe.com.

Superga was born in 1911, when Walter Martiny established a public limited company, which in 1925 began producing canvas shoes with vulcanized rubber soles, the iconic 2750s. The brand joined the Group in 2004.

Already a fan of the Italian brand, Alexa posed for an exclusive shoot featuring the iconic 2750. And, to capture the brand’s essence and character, she added her personal touch to the shoot with her styling and by playing with a look that perfectly matches simplicity and style.

Alexa’s decision to start this partnership on occasion of the centennial anniversary of Superga is a positive novelty factor to Superga. She is one of the most influential style icons of our time and a huge Superga fan. Her effortless style and personality suit the brand and the collection that she is going to wear in a very natural way.

Superga Q1Q2 2011

The Superga Q1Q2 2011 Collection has been developed by BasicSamples, the Style Research & Development Department of BasicNet S.p.A., the Turin-based company owner of the historic brand, which since 1925 has been producing the Superga 2750: the first canvas shoe with vulcanised sole.

BasicNet has consolidated the brand, whose name and tradition were associated worldwide to the Italian shoes, thus enabling Superga to take on the role of “People’s shoes of Italy” in the field of informal shoes.

For Q1Q2 2011 Superga presents a complete Men’s, Women’s, Unisex and Kid’s collection.

The new seasonal proposals of the 2750 highlight the great attention paid to the search for new materials, fabrics and colours, both for classic and brand new models: beside the 51 plain-coloured versions, the new models feature cotton with shaded effect, stone washed cotton, studs and crystals, pure Italian linen (plain and patterned) and shirt fabrics in many different Oxford patterns.

Benny The Musical

By | Celebrations, Entertainment, Tributes, What's New at Rustan's, What's new at Shopwise?, What's New at Starbucks? | 5 Comments

The celebration continue as many of those who love Lolo Benny pay tribute to him.  Thanks to my cousin, M. Donnie and Crickette, and Frances, Crickette’s sister and  my super creative friend, for producing such a lovely tribute.  Congratulations to Freddie Santos and the rest of the production team!  To my cousins who were part of the musical, congratulations too!  I am so honored to be part of all the celebrations and feel all the love and joy for Lolo. I am benefitting so much by just being a supporter, a viewer and a guest in all of this and it is just overwhelming.  I cried of joy and happiness when I watched the musical! And I was so touched there was a part dedicated to Lola Glecy who I truly truly miss and love.

I was able to take a few videos.  I will post a summarized version of the musical later on once I get hold of it.  Meantime, enjoy the show 🙂

April 7, 1921. A day when providence thought it perfect to welcome a young boy into a world that had much to offer. As it has turned out, he too had much to offer the world.

Good evening, I’m Jaime del Mundo, and I begin not so much with a statement but rather, with a question. Through 90 years, how does one measure the life of a man whose legacy continues to touch lives in ways as countless as the stars that conspired to forge a path unique to this one soul – a path that would branch out into a lattice of trails that has led many others to their own journeys?

I know what you’re thinking. That’s a pretty, long question! But hey, we’re talking 90 incredible years! That alone is worthy of a round of applause, don’t you think?

So on this day, in precious pieces of memories, musical, visual and otherwise, we celebrate the life of Ambassador Bienvenido R. Tantoco, Sr., which he has shared with us in whole.

[wp_youtube]gk3ZBT01dEk[/wp_youtube]

A quiet boy from Malolos, little Bienvenido loved school, learned music, shot some hoops and swam in the river.  At 17, fresh from high school, the young man found himself faced with a crisis. Barely two months after he moved to Manila to start his life as a working college student, his father died and to fill his shoes came too early, too soon.  As he stepped up to the plate, Benny worked with his kin to support the household in Malolos. He was employed at the booming theater business of the Rufinos which afforded him enough to send earnings to his mother with some left for boarding and fine suits.

benny-the-musical-05.jpgbenny-the-musical-06.jpg

But, not quite enough to afford him nights to wine and dine at the Trocadero, a high-end club above his office. No “putting on the Ritz” for this young man who, without warning, needed to mature into becoming head of the family. Just 15 hours each day devoted to pure work and study.

Without cabarets on his mind, Benny lived quite a serious life…

benny-the-musical-07.jpg

In another part of Manila was a young woman born to parents who were likewise Bulakeños. Although this unica hija had a happy childhood and lived a privileged life, she learned discipline early on as her parents and grandparents were very strict. Gliceria Rustia, whom we know as Glecy, grew up to become a lovely lady.

benny-the-musical-08.jpg

By the time the Second World War broke out, Glecy had just turned 18…and  Benny was 22. But, no global war could stop kismet. Girl met boy.

benny-the-musical-09.jpgbenny-the-musical-010.jpg

Getting approval of their relationship from Glecy’s parents was like going through the eye of a needle. How could Benny possibly win their sanction with a widowed mother and orphaned siblings to care for? Two years from the day destiny brought them together, Benny and Glecy made the incredible decision to…

benny-the-musical-011.jpg

Yes, love was in the air, but so was the rage of war. The newlywed couple would find themselves in the midst of cross fires and chaos. No birthright, no amount of wealth could buy peace and security at a time when devastation ruled. They first evacuated to Lipa but after so much destruction in that area, the couple made their way back to Manila… climbing the mountains of Tagaytay and hitching on a vegetable truck just to get to a decent hospital for the birth of their first son. Soon after, Liberation came and a new sun shone, filling the young Tantoco family with fresh hope as it did the rest of the land.

benny-the-musical-012.jpg

From suitcases of nylon stockings and lingerie that Glecy had flown back from New York, ladies from the crème de la crème flocked to the Tantoco home at San Marcelino to wipe out the little stock they had. Benny continued to work at his day job and would burn brows doing the math at night or even on hours he would find between the hustle and the bustle.

benny-the-musical-013.jpg

What they called the “Little Shop” in their home quickly blossomed to make that part of town a hub for those who had an incessant thirst for novel, trendy, and good quality purchases. The couple eventually turned their two-story home into a full-blown emporium of women’s and children’s apparel, and later on a gentleman’s section as well. Benny went full-time to support the emerging retail giant. From a small family affair, the Rustia-Tantoco tandem gave birth to Rustan’s, to this day still a family affair.

benny-the-musical-014.jpg

Speaking of family, our next number, an intermission if you will, is a special number, not because of the music, but because of its performers. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the members of the Tantoco family…

 [wp_youtube]grxYHGMKvXo[/wp_youtube]

Intermission over… Now back to our misucal journey…With the business unstoppable in its tracks, the growing Tantoco family moved their home to Makati. Alongside this migration also came the decision to build Rustan’s along Ayala, then far from the cityscape that it is today. The edifice was avant garde. Predictions of losing their San Marcelino market loomed. But, as it had always been, a commitment to quality products and service were the fuel that kept Rustan’s rising to the top of the trade.

[wp_youtube]sJZ36bwkN7g[/wp_youtube]

Then, in 1983, a very special missive arrived. The letter read: Mr. Bienvenido Tantoco, Sr., Malacanang Palace formally presents you with this appointment to serve as the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Holy See at the Stato della citta del Vaticano, Vatican City.

This moment was both magnificent, and humbling. Benny could only accept with gratitude.

benny-the-musical-015.jpgbenny-the-musical-016.jpg

By the time Benny was appointed Ambassador to the Holy See, the retail business was already in the hands of the Tantoco children who began with lowly jobs and worked their way up, reminiscent of the couple’s own ascent to success. It was once again the best of times, but it was also the time to say farewell and cherish the memory of his greatest ambition, his greatest luxury, his greatest love…

benny-the-musical-017.jpgbenny-the-musical-018.jpgbenny-the-musical-019.jpg

The partnership of Benny and Glecy was so strong that even after Glecy’s passing, Benny found strength to keep on going. His delight in his growing family continues to serve him as his strongest inspiration…and on his 90th year, Benny finds himself more fulfilled than ever before.

benny-the-musical-020.jpg

April 7, 2011. We celebrate 9 decades of a life lived with much love and passion.   So, how does one indeed measure the life of a man? Not in titles of fame and fortune, but in his commitment as son, brother, husband, father, friend and mentor. Not in property and profits, but in the love and light he has given and received. Not in the abundance of success, but in the abundance of memories spent with family, friends and every individual whose path he has crossed. Not in the adulation of achievements, but in respect for others, pride in country, and devotion to God.

Banana Republic Summer 2011 Collection

By | Fashion, Summer, What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

Banana Republic introduces its most covetable and expansive summer dress collection to date. The 2011 line-up offers a number of distinct styles, ranging from black-tie evening wear to stylish knit maxi dresses that take you from beach to chic. Each new arrival is a celebration of individuality, with fresh spins on color, texture and shape – all inspired by the otherworldly lushness and vibrancy of the world’s rainforests, lagoons and gardens.

The palette runs the gamut from statement solids punctuated with modern twists to bloom-covered offerings and ethnic prints drenched in the boldest kaleidoscope of hues. Think dainty hand-drawn florals and exuberant watercolors. Luxury also arrives via the feel and ease of the fabrics – silk, linen, cotton – each with a new lightness of being that’s being experienced at a leisurely pace. The softly structured silhouettes beckon to mind the quintessential patio cokctail party where summer was a dressed-up affair and conversations outnumbered dips in the pool.
