( ty @kaisterprimo for the video) Sri Lanka’s iconic landmark, The Galle Face Hotel, is situated in the heart of Colombo, along the seafront and facing the famous Galle Face Green. One of the oldest hotels east of the Suez, The Galle Face Hotel embraces its rich history and legendary traditions, utilizing them to create engaging, immersive experiences that resonate with old and new generations of travelers alike. No visit to Sri Lanka is complete without staying at this majestic hotel, built in 1864 and recently restored back to its former glory. ( website) #srilankainstyle #gallefacehotel #galle

Colombo

We drove from Galle to Colombo and just did a bus tour 🙂

Colombo, Sri Lanka’s enigmatic coastal capital city, is a bustling metropolis that once functioned the main port for the Portuguese, Dutch and British. Colombo is a colorful tapestry of various cultures and is one of the best places to explore all of Sri Lanka’s history, from ancient Buddhist temples and stunning colonial architecture to the modern shops and art galleries that line the capital’s streets,  a host of temples, churches, kovils and mosques, the tranquil Viharamahadevi Park, National Museum, Colombo Fort and various art galleries selling local pieces.Colombo (3) Colombo (4) Colombo (2) Colombo (1) Colombo (20) Colombo (19) Colombo (15) Colombo (14) Colombo (13) Colombo (12) Colombo (11) Colombo (10) Colombo (9) Colombo (8) Colombo (7) Colombo (6) Colombo (5)

Lunuganga

By | Homes and Interiors, Sri Lanka | No Comments

En route to Colombo from Galle, we stopped by to visit Lunuganga @geoffery.bawa.lunuganga , the rest home of the late Geoffrey Bawa.  The main house is kept private for the people staying there.  I was able to go in my mistake and took a few photos.  So the tour is really the gardens.

*****

Started in 1947, the garden led Bawa, a lawyer called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in 1940, to decide to become an architect.
Lunuganga is now a Trust since Geoffrey didnt have any heirs. It’s a boutique hotel and the gardens are open to the public. It offers guests a rare opportunity to step inside the private life of one of the world’s most celebrated architects. Geoffrey Bawa bought this former rubber estate in 1948 to craft into his garden idyll. After decades of careful, exquisite, creative thought and design, the home and grounds have become his legacy, a wondrous, inspiring place. #geoffreybawa #lunuganga#srilankrew #srilankainstyle #h2hinteriors
