Birthday Celebration at Educare

By | Educare | No Comments

James and I don’t really celebrate our birthdays but this year we decided to – with the kids from our foundation Educare.  We celebrated a month ago since it was the last day of school so it was an early celebration. The kids probably don’t understand but we hope they enjoyed Birthday Celebration at EducareBirthday Celebration at Educare (2)

We receive a lot of giveaways and lootbags (and We love them:-) ) from family, friends, from sponsors and they are all blessings.   So it’s just right to give them back to people who need them the most.  I’m so happy I found these gigantic bags ( around 30 inches tall) from Rustan’s Supermarket and we filled them up with snack goodies from Herr’s & toys donated by my siblings!Birthday Celebration at EducareBirthday Celebration at Educare (4)

Shangri-La at The Fort and Horizon Homes

By | Accomodations | 3 Comments

I visited the office of Horizon Homes in Shangri-la Hotel Makati
Shangri-La at The Fort and Horizon Homes (9)

And you can get a glimpse of how the interiors of the development will be.
The interiors of Shangri-la at the Fort are by Manny Samson. Manny Samson lived in LA for two decades and came back to live in Asia. He has done several projects all over the world, majority of which are in Asia. To name a few, St. Regis and Ritz Carlton in Bali, Shangri-la Mactan, Solaria Resorts and Casino and many more. He does only resorts and hotels. His style is subtle luxury. And according to Julie, there will be many Filipino materials and designs used in the development. Subtle luxury =class = Shangrila-la.  This is my friend Julie who is the Director of Sales and Marketing for this developmentShangri-La at The Fort and Horizon Homes (10)Shanrgila at the Fort Manila pre opening

In exactly a year from now, the Horizon Homes will be turned over to the unit buyers and it will be 20 floors of residential condos with 98 units which includes the Penthouse unit. This will be on top of 41 floors of Shangri-La at the Fort.  We are looking forward to this new development because for sure this will be a beautiful one. The Kwoks are very hands on for this project so you can be assured of the quality that Shangri-la is known for. Shangri-La at The Fort and Horizon Homes (7)

There will be a mall and a fitness club ( Kerry Sports )Shangri-La at The Fort and Horizon Homes 30th Street

Interiors by Manny Samson.  I like his concept of subtle luxury – it means beauty with class.  It means beauty without having to scream or brag about it.  It’s there but in a humble and quiet way.  Shangri-La at The Fort and Horizon Homes Manny Samson about

Xocolat

By | Foodie | One Comment

Heart2Heart super loves this place in Katipunan!  Owned by my cousin in law, Val LopezXocolat (67)

Check out the Philippine Star today and read about how Val Velasco Lopez puts so much chocolate, detail and LOVE  into everything she does

Xocolat in the Philippine Star

Here are more photos and information about the place which did not fit in the article 🙂

It’s in an old house of a 90 year old lady  who is the Aunt of Val’s bother in law.  This house used to be Xocolat’s commissary to service their Podium branch.  They put a few seats outside and many people were coming – so eventually they had to convert the place to  restaurant cafe and now the commissary had to move to another location. What a nice problem to have! 🙂Xocolat (1)

Val used to make handmade fountains and handmade pottery together with a German guy 20 years ago.  He put up a factory in Cagayan de Oro and they were making pottery and beautiful fountains like this.  This is right as you enter the gate of the houseXocolat (66)

Bohemian look and feel at Xocolat – live the fabric and lanterns hanging on the outdoor seating area by the front of the houseXocolat (24)

Plenty cute signs all over the place.  Each of these are made by Val!  Can you tell how detailed she is and how she customizes everything?Xocolat (25)

More outdoor seating on the left sideXocolat (68)

And finally the entranceXocolat (26)

And here she is 🙂  Val Velasco Lopez.  She has three other partners in the business – Rina Puno Avecilla ( Polly ) Pinky Yap Ortiz and Trish Malvar ( who is based in Singapore ).  Val told me that she does the creative side of the business – the graphics, the design and R&D of the restaurant including the dishes. She tells me she loves pork and chocolates yet I wonder why she is so slim!!  Where does it go?  She also owns the Bead Shop which has 10 branches already.  I keep telling her to open in Makati but she refuses because she is so hands on with all her businesses.  She cannot imagine running a business that she cannot visit or be present in, hence we have to go all the way to Katipunan or Podium to dine at Xocolat.  It’s worth the trip Xocolat (4)

These antique dolls are from the collection of the owner of the house.  Val found it when she was fixing the house and instead of keeping the in a box, she displayed them so nicely in this cabinet. Some find them scary, I don’t 🙂 well maybe if it were at night and I were all alone in the house! hahaXocolat (62)

Food Crawl at SM Aura – Dessert at Todd English

By | Foodie | No Comments

Our last stop for the food crawl!  Todd English Food Hall.  So nice to be back after it opened a year ago.

Previous entry:  Todd English Foodhall March 25, 2014

How can we not have dessert even after all that we ate? Especially if it’s at Todd English 🙂

So happy to see Eric and Kidd Dee – the lovely couple running Todd English Food Crawl at SM Aura - Dessert at Todd English (1)

And look whoelse we saw! Lanai and Adam Tabura from the Aloha plate team – They just arrived from Hawaii yesterday. They are winners of ” America’s next food truck race” They are guest chefs for the Dee family and will have some tasting …….. Who knows what may come out of thatFood Crawl at SM Aura - Dessert at Todd English (7)

Eric Dee told me some good news!! D’O will be opening in November in Manila at the new Shangrila at the Fort  – D’O stands for Davide Oldani. He has a restaurant in Milan called D’O which has an 18 month booking. It’s the cheapest Michelin starred restaurant in Europe with 11.50 euro for a 3-course lunch and dinner at 38.-40 euros for a 4 course meal. He is also the culinary ambassador for this year’s World Expo in Milan. He is the brand ambassador for Samsung, Lavazza and Kartell. I guess this is one of the things Rikki Dee was talking about! There’s more to come! Food Crawl at SM Aura - Dessert at Todd English (6)
