The Department of Agriculture (DA)’s active participation in Spain’s most important and Asia’s most anticipated culinary event of the year—the Madrid Fusión Manila—is a major step in showcasing the Philippine’s best heritage food and agricultural products to the mainstream market and highlight what it can offer to the world of cuisine.
Organized annually since 2003, Madrid Fusión is the most important Spanish gastronomy congress bringing together the most prestigious and innovative chefs from all over the world. It has a solid 12-year track record of bridging cultures through good food. It is where the world goes to see the future of food.
“When we talk about food, agriculture is indispensable. All raw materials for food are products of agriculture and we are privileged and proud to feature top Philippine agricultural products in this year’s Madrid Fusión, the holding of which in the country is actually the first time in Asia,” DA Secretary Proceso Alcala said.
Through Madrid Fusion Manila, DA also aims to feature our Filipino culture and diversity and to stress the value of using ingredients produced by small farmers. “We also want to reintroduce ‘slow food’ as an alternative to fast food. The increasing popularity of convenience food has made our traditional cuisine that is deeply-rooted in our culture and traditions slowly disappear. As a consequence, we use less and less of the traditional and indigenous local ingredients that makes our cuisine distinctly Filipino and mainly produced from smallholder farming,” DA Undersecretary for Special Concerns Berna Romulo Puyat added.
On April 24?26, 2015, Mall of Asia’s SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Madrid Fusión Manila will feature some of the most renowned 10 michelin stars chefs from Spain and other parts of the globe namely Elena Arzak, Andoni Luis Aduriz, Quique Dacosta, Ramon Frexia, Francis Paniego, Paco Roncero, Mario Sandoval, Paco Torreblanca, André Chiang, and Alvin Leung.
Madrid Fusión Manila is a joint partnership among the Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), along with Madrid Fusión organizers Foro de Debate and Arum Estrategias de Internacionalización.
Participants in the congress will learn the latest culinary trends and techniques from the top michelin star chefs from Spain and the best chefs from the Philippines and other countries in Asia, as they talk about progressive gastronomy, technological innovation, and revolutionary techniques in cuisine.
Restaurateurs, food manufacturers, entrepreneurs in the food industry, food writers, bloggers and even foodies will benefit from the conferences and presentations lined up.
The DA booths in the three-day congress will be exhibiting champion produce from different regions of the country such as mango, coconut, pineapple and tuna. In addition, products that reflect Philippine traditions and culture such as heirloom rice, adlai, siling labuyo, batuan, tabob-tabon, kamias, kapeng barako, and criollo cacao and innovative consumer products like Destileria Limtuaco’s Manille Liqueur that use tropical fruits such as calamansi and dalandan, coco sugar and coco honey from Coco Natura, organic rice and coffee from Fresh Start Organic will, honey from Milea Bee Farm, fresh and chilled tuna from Frabelle will also be featured.
Entrepreneurs Bea Crisostomo of Ritual and Paula Aberasturi of DownToEarth have volunteered to help in the presentation of the products in the Philippine booth.

Thanks to Undersecretary Berna Romulo Puyat I met Olive Limpe -Aw, President of Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc ( White Castle whisky ) which is the oldest distillery in the Philippines.
She is 5th generation of her 162 year old family business. A few weeks ago she introduced to us their latest product which is Manille Dalandan Liquer. ( they also have a Calamansi version ). She uses dalandan from Quezon and she pays double for the dalandan – first for the whole fruit and then the second for the rind which she pays another whole price for. She says that this is their company CSR ( Corporate Social Responsibility ) She is so nice! She told me that she does not want them to feel that they are being cheated or being squeezed too much and its their way of helping the local farmers. I wish we had more people like her. She’s an inspiration already with that one act of generosity and kindness.
Heart2Heart will definitely support Olive and her products. Looking forward to more products from this amazing woman and company
Manille Liqueur de Calamansi
Manille captures the essence of calamansi using the citrus fruit’s rinds to make a drink that is zesty, fresh and packed with an intense citrus aroma in a vodka base. It is perfect as a digestive or as a drink to cleanse the palate between courses. You can also take it as a chilled shot or on the rocks for a refreshing long drink. It can also be use it to prepare sweet and savory dishes that require any kind of zesty kick. Manille Liqueur de Calamansi will surely give your cocktails or dishes a unique twist.
Manille is also an all-natural product using calamansi fruit from Mindoro, the calamansi capital of the Philippines. There are no added flavors and preservatives while only natural plant pigment is used to enhance the liqueur’s color.
In the production of Manille, the company extends its support to the Mindoro calamansi farmers and an indigenous Mangyan community in Tugdaan. Organic calamansi grown in the Tugdaan mountains, Mindoro are handpicked every morning by the Mangyan farmers and carried down on foot to the processing plant located at the foot of the mountain.
The product is available in 750ml vintage bottle at P440.00 suggested retail price. It is also available in 750ml bottle with designed tin cannister, perfect for gift giving, at a suggested retail price of P495.00.

So happy for her and love her
Super love the walls at Aruga Cafe. There are two walls like this. The interiors were done by Butch Valdez who now works in the States and does international projects like the Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok. He has done a lot of work for Rockwell.

Breakfast at Aruga Cafe. Left is Eggs Breakfast and Right is the Continental Breakfast which had a choice of Toast, pancakes or waffles. And 2 eggs any style and a choice of Farmer’s Ham (2 slices), Hickory Smoked bacon (5 slices), Spam (3 slices) or Wienerli Sausage. Gosh I wanted all! I asked if I could have 1 slice each. But ofcourse I chose spam
A few weeks after was the formal blessing and launch. Tita Cedie Lopez Vargas, Gilbert & Nikki Teodoro, Rissa’s twins Tea and Ale, Le Lagdameo with Manolet and Vicky. Congratulations Vicky Pimentel and Aruga Cafe. Come on over to Aruga Residences in Rockwell and try out the new Aruga Cafe
Father Gabe said something so nice for the blessing. He said that When you invite a priest to your house, your resto or to anything. You put God in the center of your lives. When you bless a place, you bring the presence of the lord – therefore you feel LOVE, unity, joy, tranquility and peace. And when you go out of that place, you share the presence of the Lord and those same feelings of LOVE and you become a source of blessing for others too. You also rid the place of evil spirits and anything negative. So beautiful
Oh my gosh! Gigantic and handsome son of Vicky!! Tommy Teodoro!
Full force including pretty daughter of Vicky, Rissa Potenciano Artadi with her family. The twins Tea and Ale didn’t want to smile but they made faces 🙂 so adorable!

I’ve always dreamt of living in Rockwell. It’s true when they say “Be careful what you wish for….dream for… or even worse …pray for!” Because today my dream came true 🙂 I just checked in Aruga services apartments at the Edades Tower for a staycation and it’s so nice!!!!

Aruga in Filipino means “exceptional care” I love it here.
I like serviced residences because it’s like staying in a hotel but in a more spacious and it’s more relaxed environment because it’s like your home…. and without having to pay suite prices 🙂
We stayed in a two bedroom so this is the other room
And this is the Master Bedroom
They have a golf car to take you around Rockwell 🙂
My gosh! They even have an IT guy on standby. Very important for me! haha!! Good thing he gave me access for 5 devices haha!!
The beautiful swimming pool of Edades Tower and Garden Villas which is shared with the Aruga Serviced Apartments – 3rd level. We had a wonderful stay. I want to live in Rockwell!!!
Very important! 🙂 Access to the mall right across
Secret passage from and to the Powerplant mall and Aruga serviced apartments.

You need your apartment key as access so it’s safe plus there’s a security guard it’s right beside The Marketplace by Rustan’s so it’s so convenient!!! Love it here! Wait didn’t I just say that? 🙂
