Adolfo Dominguez Men’s Spring Summer 2016

By | What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

The men’s Spring-Summer 2016 collection explores new horizons, guided by instinct and savoir-faire. The designer Adolfo Domínguez imagines a man who is setting out on a road trip along the legendary Route 66. A coast to coast journey giving rise to a collection marked by its authenticity and its innovation.

Adolfo Dominguez (2)It is a journey from the deep blue sea to the scorched desert: sky-blue and sand. The signature prints, lifted with touches of watercolour, reflect the landscapes of the route. The dusty horizon is expressed with delavé finishes. The stones on road are not obstacles, but a scattering of grey and black that converse with the green brushstrokes of the cactus. The trip takes us to a destination filled with warm colours and pastel shades.

Adolfo Dominguez (4)The minimalist design is expressed in black and white to highlight the technical details: elastic fastenings, thermosealed seams, waterproof zips and neoprene foams, that contrast with the hints of artisan touches and a predilection for materials with character. Deconstructed tailoring continues as a key element: a hallmark of our firm’s identity.

Adolfo Dominguez (1)Natural fabrics – linen, cotton and merino wool – feature in their pure form and in innovative blends, such as the Technolinen, which combines linen and the finest quality Italian cotton. The importance we place on the latest generation vegan material gives rise to an extra-soft eco-leather, like a caress.

Christian Louboutin – Spring Summer 2016 Handbag Collection

By | What's New at Rustan's | No Comments

A bag is a diary of a woman, even more truthful  than a diary in fact.  If you look into a bag of woman, it is all there,  like a film trailer.’

Christian Louboutin Spring Summer 2016 Handbag CollectionChristian Louboutin’s Spring/Summer 2016 handbag collection begins as a diary entry to his first love–––the showgirl. Forever an inspiration to his work, the story transports us to a world he first discovered as a young man in the cabarets of Paris. Mesmerized by the lights, the sounds, and the choreography, he fell in love with the dancers, to him ‘birds of paradise.’ The cabaret’s marvels in mind as he began work on the Spring/Summer 2016 handbag collection, Louboutin imagined an expression of the show in a more tangible form – the Paloma.

Christian Louboutin Spring Summer 2016 Handbag Collection (2) Christian Louboutin Spring Summer 2016 Handbag Collection (3)He began with the fundamentals–––a showgirl’s legs. He imagined them in high heeled Christian Louboutin shoes, which inspired the curvaceous line of Paloma’s nude calfskin handles that disappear seamlessly into the bag. He recalled the cheeky salute of dancers through the theater house curtain, a hallmark of the performance heightened by the rhythmic veiling and unveiling of the dancers’ bodies. On Paloma, in turn, a tantalizing glimpse of Louboutin’s omnipresent red peers through a gusseted side construction, alongside a panel of playful leopard printed patent leather. “For the Paloma, I reminisced about the dark setting, and elements of leopard print, always there was an element of leopard print, from a bathrobe to underwear strewn about the dressing room,” says Christian. Gleaming gold spikes adorning the side panels, placed diagonally as opposed to linearly, evoke archetypal cabaret stage lights, a statement of style drawing the spotlight onto Paloma. In a final unprecedented number of new silhouettes and a significant update to Louboutin’s most loved styles, every element of the design and construction have been carefully considered, and meticulously accounted for. This includes the custom development of natural leathers, carefully selected hardware elements and charming, unexpected details, all driven by a mix of design and function

In addition to Paloma, the SS16 collection delivers a whole new cast of leading ladies, including the Vanity clutch. Structured, modern and chic, the Vanity is spacious enough to transition easily from day to evening, boasting a red enamel clasp first seen in the Passage collection and a removable infinity chain strap. It comes in three colourways including mystical demi-lune spikes and a striking, exotic Python Parrot skin also found on select shoe styles for Spring/Summer ‘16. Sexy and sleek, Vanity combines a rare mix of opulence and minimalism no matter the material.

Another fresh addition is Triloubi, a versatile, compact crossbody or shoulder bag perfect for the Parisian (or Parisian-at-heart) girl on the go. Despite being covered in Louboutin’s signature and specially developed spikes on one side, Triloubi retains a pragmatic levity for the city girl. Available in two sizes, the bag contains three panels that expand to make it roomier; a view from the side reveals the pleated design is reminiscent of the heel of a shoe.

Christian Louboutin Spring Summer 2016 Handbag CollectionPiloutin, perhaps the most whimsical new style, is inspired by fairy tales. Here, Christian conjures the tale of Cinderella and the glass slipper, only this time the transformation isn’t from pumpkin to carriage, it’s from pillow to handbag. With a satin finish and playful enamel charm that serves as a protective amulet, perhaps the bag’s most charming aspect is its soft-to-the-touch quality. Piloutin will be available in a versatile gold Nappa Laminata as well as a special limited edition adorned with antique Indian ribbons from Christian’s personal collection, acquired through years of globetrotting. Available only in flagship boutiques, each limited edition Piloutin is one of a kind.

A Louboutin favorite, Sweet Charity returns for Spring/Summer 2016 with a luxe new construction, clean, modern shape and rich details, including hand-stitching, a whimsical interior charm and an edgy hand-spiked and chain metal bow. The Sweet Charity family also welcomes a new addition in Baby Charity, a mid-size option that sits between the Small Sweet Charity and the tiniest Sweetie Charity, a red carpet and evening favourite.

Spring/Summer ‘16 is topped off with an exclusive selection of small leather goods from Christian Louboutin, including new wallet shapes and a travel-friendly coin purse. The U Campus notebook, U Loubipass, and the new So Kate clutch, an update to the classic Pigalle clutch, will all be available exclusively on christianlouboutin.com

Christian Louboutin is exclusively available in Rustan’s Makati.

Ebb and Flow

By | Arts and Culture, Velada-Others | No Comments

“Life is the constant ebb and flow of holding on and letting go.”

-Esther EsteyEbb and flow invitation

Ebb and flow is the natural rhythm of life. It is constant flux, a movement of tensions, of complements. EBB and FLOW is the title of the three women art exhibit of Tessa Mendoza, Tina Gonzales, and Tessa Alindogan. Each artist displays a singular ability, a distinct style on her own. But when combined, the works become an even more powerful canvas of colors, movements, and contours. For the first time, these three talented and up-and-coming artists teamed-up in a one night only event.Ebb and Flow Tessa Mendoza TEssa Alindogan Tina gonzales

Coming from her first and highly successful solo exhibit, Gracia, held last November 2014, Tessa Mendoza showcased a collection of her earlier works. These range from sketches to paintings that when viewed collectively presents a visual narrative of the artist she is today. It is in looking back that she is able to continuously evolve as an artist to move forward.Ebb and Flow Tessa Mendoza 3

Ebb and Flow was the first exhibit for Tina Gonzales. As a long time collector and art dealer, Tina has always taken an interest in painting. Two years ago, a couple of life-changing events led to a period of prolific creativity that birthed the artist that was always veiled within. Her works are mostly colorful, contemporary, figurative paintings that depict scenes from everyday life that have impressed themselves upon the artist.Ebb and Flow Tina Gonzales

Tessa Alindogan, distinguished as an interior designer, began painting in 2004. What was borne out of necessity (she needed a big painting for her condo) eventually became a calling as demand for her work grew.Ebb and Flow Tessa Alindogan 12

She held her first solo exhibit in 2011. Her works are abstracts that are both elegant and dramatic. As an interior designer, Tessa believes that she has a natural instinct for what paintings would go well in people’s homes or offices.

Early Beginnings

Tessa Mendoza

Tessa discovered her love for art at a young age. She describes herself as a self-taught artist who began by creating doodles and caricatures on her notebooks in school. As a result, her teachers recommended art classes to her mother.

Tessa Mendoza_ Ebb and FlowIn 1986 Tessa began to paint earnestly. She subsequently participated in a joint exhibit entitled Nuances. A year after her foray into the art scene in the Philippines, Tessa got married and her career as a budding artist took a backseat to her role as wife, and soon enough, mother to four children

Over twenty years later, Tessa’s passion for her craft was reignited. This journey of rediscovering the artist within reached its full expression in her first solo exhibit, Gracia, where Tessa debuted as a full fledged artist in a sold out show in 2014. Ebb and Flow Tessa Mendoza5Tessa Medoza Ebb and Flow (2) Tessa Medoza Ebb and Flow (3) Tessa Medoza Ebb and Flow (1)Tessa’s work is informed by a faith that transcends the everyday: “Mine is but the hand that wields brush to canvas; it is Christ’s abounding grace that inspires, conjures, creates and blesses.” Her works are an invitation to the viewers to experience a non-verbal, personal conversation through tactile abstractions that speak to the soul.

Tina Gonzales

For as long as she can remember, Tina always had a passion for drawing. In school, she would not take notes, but would continuously doodle on her notebooks. While she wanted to pursue her interest in art through formal study, her parents thought it best that she undertake more practical subjects in school. Hence, she majored in Engineering.

Tina Gonzales_Ebb and FLowEbb and Flow Tina Gonzales 1Once, Tina took up a painting course in Ayala Museum given by Stella Roxas. She completed her first painting in 30 minutes. Her teacher was surprised at her output, especially since she did not take up any formal art classes. However, Tina did not pursue painting as she was caught up in day-to-day living. She began collecting art instead. As her collection grew, she also began to deal in art.Ebb and Flow Tina Gonzales 3Tina Gonzales Ebb and Flow (2) Tina Gonzales Ebb and Flow (1)  Two years ago, life-changing events led Tina to take up painting once again. She rediscovered her first love, that is, drawing. She also found an outlet for the outpouring of her ever changing moods, passions, and emotions.

Her paintings are ultimately a deep expression of hope. The bright colors exude life in all its fullness. Even in the depths of crisis, life remains a tapestry of hope, faith, and love.Tina Gonzales Ebb and Flow (3)

Tessa Alindogan

Tessa A. was always artistically inclined. After graduating from college, she took up Architectural Interior Design from the Inchbald School of Design in London, where she graduated with honors.

Tessa Alindogan_Ebb and FlowEbb and Flow Tessa Alindogan 1She has been a practicing interior designer since 1988, with a steady stream of distinguished clientele and projects.

She began painting out of necessity. In 2004, she had just moved into a new condo and found a big empty wall in her living room. She created a painting to fit that wall and subsequently painted two more for the bedroom. While many of her guests would admire these paintings, Tessa did not really think of painting seriously until a friend, Anton Baretto, asked her to consign a painting in his store, Nest. She consigned the painting from her living room and it was sold the next day. The buyer was Rajo Laurel.

Finally, she held a small exhibit in Nest in 2011 where all the pieces displayed was sold.

Tessa A. believes, as John Keats did, that beauty is truth. Her paintings exhibit a straightforward beauty; elegant yet dramatic. Her aesthetic sensibility is consistently seen in her interiors, her art, and her life.Ebb and Flow Tessa Alindogan 2 Ebb and Flow Tessa Alindogan 3 Ebb and Flow Tessa Alindogan 4 Ebb and Flow guests 1 Ebb and Flow guests 2 Ebb and Flow Tessa Alindogan 20 Ebb and Flow Tessa Mendoza1
