New Wonjo

By | Foodie | No Comments

We wanted to see our niece, Mia, who majors in Advertising in Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and since she was in the city interning at a Japanese Kimono shop, we met up with her near where she was.  She was looking Japanese and had her new red hair colour – both fit her so well.  How fast time file and it has been four years since she first came to Brooklyn for College and she is soon graduatingNew Wonjo (1)

We have been wanting to have Korean and so as usual we end up at Won Jo ( 34th street ), our favourite.  New Wonjo (2)

Mia suggested we eat here, but I was afraid we might not get a seat and it would be so cold so we chose indoors. But this is a nice pop up of many food stalls right in Greeley Square Park located at the intersection of Broadway and 33rd street

SPS Cafeteria Parent’s Weekend

By | Foodie | No Comments

I love eating in the cafeteria of the school!  Though I love this initiative, it is a bit difficult without the trays to get food since I have to go back plenty times to get everything I want to try 🙂  But it’s a good thing because with the trays we really tend to fill it up with so many things that we end up not eating everything

Siam Orchid Thai Bistro

By | Foodie | No Comments

It’s Parent’s Weekend at SPS. Parents from all over the USA and the world come over to join this 2 day activity in school. It’s a time to meet the teachers, discuss your child, attend talks, simulate your kids classes and of course a chance to visit your child who is on full board. We have only joined this time and missed the past 2 years. But others have joined all! Pedro &Gina ( fr Manila) Rob & Deb (fr Boston) Marissa (fr HK) and Prasong & Chananya ( fr Bangkok). So happy to be with them. They are all amazing going all around visiting not only one child but two or three in different schools. We are happy that our children are friends and are in good company, Blessed.   They have become our friends too and we are happy that Chananya and Prasong organized a dinner to get everyone together!

Itching to Splurge on food

By | Foodie | No Comments

Breakfast Start the most important meal of the day with a fresh and cold Brisbane first-harvest mango, $4,200 each

Itching to SPLURGE of food (6)Next, try some of the Zillion dollar lobster frittata. This misleading dish  really costs “only” $1,000 and is full of lobster meat and caviar.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (14)Lunch  Start with some classic appetizers like cheese and bread. The cheese is Pule, a donkey cheese  from Serbia that costs $700 per pound (450 grams). The bread is a Shepherd’s Loaf, made with a 55 year old sourdough recipe in Cotswolds, UK for the price of $35 per piece.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (13)          Itching to SPLURGE of food (4)To clean your mouth before the next dish, try some Almas. This $25,000 rare caviar from Iran is sold in the Caviar House & Prunier in London and served in a 24 karat gold can.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (12)Now you are ready to sink your teeth into a Wagyu Ribeye steak from  Hyogo, Japan. The cows are given premium food to eat, beer and sake to drink, and get daily massages to keep their meat tender. The price of a steak from this 5 star cow resort? $2,800

Itching to SPLURGE of food (3)If you are not in the mood for a steak and you want something more “simple”, try the Bacon Bling Burger. Made in the Tiato restaurant in Santa Monica, this burger is full of “rare breed bacon,” black truffles, saffron and truffle oil. the price is $235, not including fries.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (11)Another great way to enjoy Wagyu beef is with some Anqi pho soup also found in the Tiato restaurant. This rich soup is full of white alba truffles, a foie gras broth and hand-raised bean sprouts, all for the price of $5,000.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (10)For desert you can take a bite out of the cake from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor’s 1937 wedding. It was kept in a box after the wedding and sold at a public auction for $29,900 in 1998. I have no idea how it tastes today, but I’m willing to give it a try!

Itching to SPLURGE of food (1)Dinner Your first dish will be a Florette Sea and Earth salad made by celebrity chef Raymond Blanc in the Hempel Hotel in London. The salad is made with of beluga caviar, grated truffle, gold leaf, Cornish crab and lobster. The dressing offered is a 30 year old balsamic sauce which tips the price of this artistic plate just a bit over $1,000.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (8)
After all the meat you have for lunch it’s time for a bit of fish so why not try the Angelito Araneta’s golden sushi combination for “just” $2,700? Served with three Mikimoto pearls and a 24-karat gold leaf wrap on each piece, this dish proves how much they love sushi in the Philippines.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (2)The Albarragena jamon Iberico de Bellota is a ham dish from pigs raised in Spain and served in London for $2,682. Each ham comes with its own DNA certificate proving its origin and quality.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (7)Your desert will be the $25,000 Frrrozen Haute chocolate ice cream from New York. It consists of a blend of cocoas, including 14 of the world’s most expensive varieties. Topped with edible 24-karat gold, and served in a golden goblet you can take home with you, this is the most expensive desert is the world.

Itching to SPLURGE of food (9)As you sit back and relax after your day of culinary delights, sip some Henri Jayer Richebourg Grand Cru, the most expensive wine in the world. The average price of a bottle is $16,500 and it’s made from the finest Pinot Noir grapes in the world.

Nobu Hotel and Nobu Chef’s Table Opening this December

By | Foodie | No Comments

City of Dreams will soon be opening and will be located in the Entertainment city and will encompass 6.2 hectares of space.  It will be a whole experience which will include accommodations, gaming, dining and shopping.  There will be three hotels  – Nobu, Hyatt and Crown Regency

Nobu Hotel Manila will be the second branch after the first one which opened a year ago in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.  Inspired by the world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa and his dazzling array of hip, modern restaurants throughout the world, Nobu Hotel City of Dreams Manila is the first in Asia, which brings a trend-setting, boutique hotel experience. Championed by Academy award-winning actor Robert De Niro and Hollywood producer Meir Teper, the hotel’s 321 rooms will deliver a celebrity-inspired, “fun-luxury” experience to its guests.

Nobu is a family favorite and we are definitely looking forward to the opening of Nobu Hotel and Nobu Chef’s Table.  I have tried three Nobu’s including Nobu New York which was many years ago.  I was not blogging yet at the time, so only the other two are documented.  It’s always an experience to remember. We don’t need to go too far anymore to have this experience!!

Yesterday several of the Nobu Hotel team gave us a preview of things to come at Nobu Chef’s TableNobu Hotel Manila team Chef Zach Hillbery will be the Executive Chef at Nobu.  He and his team prepared a wonderful lunch with nine dishes.  In all those nine dishes not one flavor was the same and that is what Nobu is all about.  Aside from the unique flavors of each dish, there is a nice feeling of not feeling heavy after the meal.  That is a very Japanese trait which many will benefit from.  Not having the heavy feeling after meal just means it was a healthy meal 🙂Chef Hillberry nobu Manila Executive Chef Chef Hillberry exec chef nobu manila about vGm2hlYqO-YFKwgi3x2JOfEvkLY0G5DujUhVTItK3PAK6No1kdEk3v7naICP9bDZ1FoKMuay2TD4X7vzty2z6o Nobu Manila menu preview Nobu Manila flowers
