Baker’s Dozen Valentine 2010

By | Hearts, Valentine's Day, Yummy! | One Comment

I was a bit early for the movie, so I went to see what was happening on the food floor and oh my gosh!!  The Baker’s Dozen!  Heart2Heart loves the Baker’s Dozen especially during Valentine’s Day!! ( Baker’s Dozen Celebrates Valentine’s Day February 11, 2009 )  Love the display and all the packaging, heart shaped cakes and pastries!

Sorry about the photos, was rushing since I had little time before the movie

Beef Pepper Rice by Heart2Heart

By | Recipes, Yummy! | 7 Comments

Javier celebrated his birthday last week and he wanted to invite his cousins ( since their parents were out of town ) and his Ninong Quito over

p1150806.JPGp1150807.jpgp1150808.jpg

We decided to serve our newly discovered homemade Beef Pepper Rice.  My three boys love Pepper Lunch, so in search of dishes I have to think of that they will like, I decided to try and make Beef Pepper Rice at home! We all know it will never be the same…. but for something homemade, they liked it!! Whew! What a relief!

So this is dedicated to my friends, Jeroen and Cecile who own Pepper Lunch! And of course we will still go to Pepper Lunch to have the real thing!

p1150813.JPGp1150816.JPGp1150817.JPG

Javier was looking for his cake… I was not prepared! as we were really supposed to have his celebration on Sunday, so he got his own candle 🙂

p1150812.jpg

and he thought of it himself to make his own cake with Golden Spoon yogurt – Cake batter and just chocolate!

p1150823.JPGp1150824.jpgp1150827.JPG

Everyone of course wanted Golden Spoon also, so that was for dessert 🙂 It’s a good thing we always have stock in our freezer!

p1150831.JPG

This is how we made our version of Beef Pepper Rice:

I showed my cook, Edna, the photo of Beef Pepper Rice from the mousepad Cecile gave me during the launch of Pepper Lunch Shangri-la 🙂  ( Pepper Lunch Launch Feb 4, 2009 )

 p1150895.JPG

I told her to just copy how it looked

I had her get all my hardly used sizzling plates which came in different designs 🙂

p1150797.JPGp1150800.JPGp1150801.JPG

Then I had to buy 5 more to accomodate the guests who were coming over

p1150774.JPG

For the beef, I just used Australian Shabu Shabu beef – sliced like Shabu Shabu so it is thin. You can also use sukiyaki beef.

But next time, I will try Wagyu or a better kind of beef so the kids will be happier 🙂

I bought fresh Japanese corn

 p1150803.JPG

and we bought Japanese Yakiniku sauces – There was spicy, sweet and then regular – James said that it is best when mixed all together – so that is what we will do next time rather than having all three bottles then adding them one by one.  I bought them at Shopwise

p1150953.JPGp1150952.JPG

I brought out my salts, pepper and Bragg’s ( in place of Knorr or Maggi )- this is for those who still want to add taste

p1150820.JPG

 and imported Japanese rice

Heart2Heart’s pizza pita sandwich?

By | Recipes, Yummy! | One Comment

Heart2Heart invented this sandwich….you should try it!  Very easy to make! One of the key ingredients is Village Gourmet’s pizza crust (  onion, parmesan, garlic and mozzarella cheese ) which you have to use like a pita pocket.  Slice the pizza crust into 2 and the you have to slit the middle of the crust so it becomes a pita pocket.  Heart2Heart found another way to use the pizza crust 🙂

The filling is a mixture of the following:

Bacolod chicken strips

( chicken, calamansi, garlic, sliced ginger then chopped thinly- mix all together to marinate the chicken, then grill )

feta cheese crumbles

pesto

shredded lettuce

chopped tomato

 dsc_0001.JPG

Then stuff it inside the pita bread

Milky Way Halo Halo

By | Yummy! | 7 Comments

I do not really eat halo halo, if ever I end up just putting pinipig, jello, milk, ube ice cream and then the ice.  But eversince I tried the halo halo in Milky Way during the baptism of Ramon  ( Ramon’s Christening January 3, 2009 ) , I have been craving for the halo halo and the ginumis!!!!! YUM YUM!!!

In the party, they served the halo halo and ginumis in small glasses

dsc_4618jpg.jpeg

So last week after dinner, I insisted on going to Milky Way for dessert!!

p1150312.jpg

It was nice to see Malou there 🙂 even if she was busy with a wedding reception next door

p1150294.jpgp1150295.jpg

And I got excited when I saw this on the wall 🙂

p1150322.jpg

Here it is!!! YUMMY!! I know everyone has been talking about this halo halo for years but only now I believed them and this is the only halo halo I eat!  🙂 I wonder if I can ask for extra ube ice cream? or extra ice?  🙂

p1150298.JPGp1150303.jpgp1150310.JPG

Then we ordered ginumis also!  Of course!!  I wonder if I can order half ginumis half halo halo?  and maybe we can call it GINUHALO!  🙂  Heart2Heart likes them both!  The coconut ice cream in the ginumis is so yummy!! I think it is the same one they use in Azuthai. YUM YUM!

p1150305.jpgp1150307.JPGp1150313.JPG

My mom always tells me that one of the secrets to good halo halo is the ice and true enough they have shaved ice

p1150319.jpg

And thanks to Malou and Jay for this yummy Dark Chocolate truffle cake which came from the floor below Milky Way, at Cirkulo.  Now my son, Jaime, is craving for this one!

p1150324.JPG

A few days after, we went to watch a movie at Rockwell Power Plant Mallp1150448.JPGmilkywayrockwellhalohalo.jpg

and I took advantage to get another GINUHALO but they did not have Ginumis, only Halo halo

 p1150451.jpg

and we were happy to see our friends, Jonathan and Stella, who were also craving for their favorite Halo Halo 🙂

Japanese Fresh Strawberries

By | Travel, Yummy! | 4 Comments

Heart2Heart loves strawberries!!! The Japanese make them so perfectly – they are so clean and shaped perfectly that sometimes you wonder if they are really fresh 🙂  Mom insists that there is a big difference in taste as the price goes higher 🙂 unlike buying the musk melon. Hmmm….

p1130529.jpgp1130530.jpgp1130531.jpgp1130541.JPGp1130719.jpgp1130732.jpgp1130733.JPGp1130738.JPGp1130739.JPGp1130740.JPGp1130741.JPGp1130742.JPGp1130893.JPGp1130894.JPGp1130895.JPGp1130897.JPGp1130898.jpgp1130899.JPGp1130900.JPG

Japanese Musk Melon

By | Travel, Yummy! | 2 Comments

I am wondering who will ever buy a melon worth US$ 200.00 plus.  Mom and I were having a discussion as to whether there is really a difference between the one that costs 21,000 yen and the 5,000 yen…hmmm… we will never know unless we taste it 🙂

In this display, you will see that someone actually bought the 10,000 yen and the 16,000 yen one

  musk-melon-japan.jpg

And to see it to believe it, there is really a 21,000 yen musk melon for sale! Here is the close up- as you go lower down the display – it gets more expensive 🙂

Pino

By | Travel, Yummy! | 3 Comments

After trying my best to convince the family to travel somewhere we have never visited before, we ended up in one of our favorite places, Tokyo.   I almost did not go but then decided that it was more important that we be together with the family and it should not have mattered what country we were in.  So, I changed my mind….and I won’t complain being in Tokyo! 🙂

In Tokyo, Pino is one of Heart2Heart’s favorite snack.  It is available in the Philippines, but somehow, it is different when you are eating it in Japan even when it is freezing already

p1130300.JPG

Look for the small toothpick inside so you can use it to pick up the chocolate pieces and put it in your mouth 🙂 YUMMY!
