By | SSI Group Inc | No Comments

We are pleased to announce the opening of the Michael Kors Building at God’s Love We Deliver’s newly renovated SoHo headquarters. The building also includes the Anna Wintour Volunteer Center and the Joan Rivers Bakery, both of which were dedicated as part of today’s ceremonies.

Michael Kors, Anna Wintour and Melissa Rivers joined Mayor Bill de Blasio and other notable New Yorkers as well as God’s Love staff, donors, and volunteers to celebrate the launch of the new facility in a special ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony. The ARC gospel choir joined the day’s festivities, singing “I’m Working On A Building,” “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher,” and “Oh Happy Day.”

God's Love We Deliver Celebrates Return To Soho With Dedication Of New Michael Kors Building

“With the dedication of our expanded facility, we will, together with our thousands of caring and committed volunteers and supporters, continue to serve the most vulnerable among us, meeting an ever-increasing demand for our program,” said Karen Pearl, President & CEO of God’s Love We Deliver. “Every day, more and more sick and hungry New Yorkers reach out to God’s Love looking for help. The Michael Kors Building allows us to continue to respond to the urgent needs of our clients for years to come. We will provide all those who need us with life-sustaining – and life-affirming – services at no charge and without a waiting list.”

The God’s Love expansion project, which was made possible, in part, by an $8 million city grant and private gifts, including more than $5 million from designer Michael Kors, more than doubles the organization’s space – from 18,000 square feet to over 48,500 square feet.

The nonprofit has been cooking and delivering nutritious, individually-tailored meals to people living with severe illnesses in the metropolitan area for over 30 years and currently serves more than 1.4 million meals to some 5,200 people each year. The new Michael Kors Building allows the organization to meet the growing demand for its services, up 94% over the last eight years.

The facility includes a new bakery, named The Joan Rivers Bakery in honor of the late comedian, talk-show host and author who supported God’s Love for over 25 years and sat on the Board of Directors for 20 years. It also plays home to The Anna Wintour Volunteer Center, honoring Anna Wintour’s more than 20 years of service and support to God’s Love and made possible through a gift by Michael Kors, Lance Le Pere, John Idol and the Michael Kors company.

In addition to these spaces, the new facility also includes an expanded delivery and pack-out area, an enclosed loading dock and rooftop garden where herbs will be grown for the food that the non-profit organization plans to serve.

“God’s Love We Deliver has been helping and healing our community for more than 30 years, bringing home-cooked meals to people who are ill and, in the process, turning strangers into neighbors,” said Michael Kors. “They are a precious resource for so many people, and it’s a privilege to be able to help them grow and expand their vital mission.”

In the Philippines, Michael Kors is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc., a member of the SSI Group Inc., and is located at The Power Plant Mall, Greenbelt 5, Rustan’s Makati, Shangri-La Plaza Mall, Newport and Bonifacio High Street Central Square. We went to the Meat Packing District,  99 Gansevoort Street and saw the new Whitney Museum which just opened last May 1.

It’s situated between the High Line and the Hudson River, the Whitney’s new building vastly increases the Museum’s exhibition and programming space, providing the first comprehensive view of its unsurpassed collection of modern and contemporary American art.
Whitney Museum Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the new building includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor galleries and 13,000 square feet of outdoor exhibition space and terraces facing the High Line. An expansive gallery for special exhibitions is approximately 18,000 square feet in area, making it the largest column-free museum gallery in New York City. Additional exhibition space includes a lobby gallery (accessible free of charge), two floors for the permanent collection, and a special exhibitions gallery on the top floor. Untitled by Danny Meyer at the Whitney Museum (2)

High Line NYC

By | Arts and Culture, Travel | One Comment

By the new Whitney Museum is the start of the High Line.

The High Line is New York City’s newest and most unique public park. Located thirty feet above street level on a 1930s freight railway, the High Line runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to 34th Street in Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen. It features an integrated landscape combining meandering concrete pathways with naturalistic plantings. Highline (8)

It’s a nice walk with so much to see, buildings, greenery, art, food, people 🙂 and more

Portraits For My Art Education

By | Arts and Culture, Education | No Comments

My friend, Nicole Olbes Fandino, shared this with Heart2Heart in the hope that maybe some of you out there may want to help Una for her Art Education.  The portraits would make a nice gift or a nice addition to your art in your homes.  I talked to Geri, the Mom of Una to help me put together the details of this project and so here it is 🙂  Good luck Una!Portraits for my Art Education

Isn’t she amazing?Portraits_for my Art Education (1)

Portraits_for my Art Education (2)

This is Una’s personal initiative to help us raise the money for her art education and at the same time, practice her skills. Her goal is to complete 100 portraits and 100% of the proceeds will go to her tuition and moving-to-Canada fund. It is a four-year program but we are all taking it one year at a time.

She is only about to start college life as an art student so technically, she isn’t one yet. Therefore the skills she is using to create these portraits are what she’s acquired from her private lessons through {SET} Artist Run Space (https://www.facebook.com/setarc?fref=ts)* while she built her portfolio.

*{SET} Artist Run Space offers portfolio building classes for art students.

All applicants to Emily Carr University of Art + Design must submit a portfolio as part of the admission process. Una worked with her teacher as she built the required body of work for ECUAD, where she has been accepted into the Foundation Year this fall term.

The portraits are her representations of the subjects.

All in all, the goal is really to raise funds for art education for ECUAD in Vancouver, BC. Una is still awaiting her study permit from the Canadian Embassy. She has also been accepted into the UP College of Fine Arts Painting Program and ADMU College of Fine Arts.

Price is P3000/head (plus shipping if applicable)
Upon confirmation of payment, Una will paint a 5X7 portrait for you.

So happy to meet Bryan Benitez McClelland of Bambike. He’s so gwapo pala 🙂  He is the guy behind the bamboo bikes roaming around Intramuros. It’s been a year and today he told us about his plans ! The kids were scheduled to do something cultural. We booked them on a Bambike Tour. which was recommended by Gina. A new way to tour Intramuros. They went to 10 different places on a bamboo bike. Weekday is best since it’s not as busy to ride the streets.
Plaza San Luis Complex is where the headquarters of Bambike located and also houses historical memories of Old Intramuros. This complex is composed of five houses, namely – Casa Manila, Casa Urdaneta, Casa Blanca, Los Hidalgos and El Hogar Filipino. So much more fun when you are in a group! 🙂  Bambike Eco Tours by Bryan Mc Clelland (11)

We have been planning this for so long and having a companion to achieve this makes it easier and better yet more fun.  Today we were spies 🙂 and joined the bamboo bike tour and followed the kids by car.   We didn’t really spy!! We wanted to see what this was all about. And it’s really a fun way to tour Intramuros.  The kids really enjoyed! Great idea partnerBambike Eco Tours by Bryan Mc Clelland (23)
