AND AT THE SAME TIME, YOU MUST ALSO:

Jeepney Bar at the Intercontinental Manila Hotel

By | Foodie | One Comment

I was so happy to be at Jeepney Car which looks very different from the one I knew when I was growing up.  I wonder what happened to all those jeeps that used to be inside the restaurant – I remember coming here just so we could eat inside the jeepney 🙂  and of course for their renowned crepes samurai.  I did not have dinner here – but I was able to take photos.  We only came here for the dessert buffet which was included in the resto-go-round promo

Previous entry:  Resto Go Round at the Intercontinental Manila Hotel May 15, 2013

Instead they have all these jeepney decors on the walls

It was buffet for dinner

Mongolian

Dessert buffet which was quite extensive

But we only focused on the Crepes Samurai.  We added fresh mangoes which you can get at the plate on top of the crepes 🙂

And a little halo halo 🙂

In one corner is a special spot for the Club 365 composed of Juan Ponce Enrile, Armida Siguion Reina, Jejomar Binay and many others.  They have been going here every morning for many years now

And all the members have a mug with their names on it

Battle for the Bags

By | Classifieds/Segunda Mano, Fashion, Giving Back, Great Ideas | 2 Comments

What a great idea!!!!!  So nice of friends of Rhea – Chary Mercado, Chinie Hidalgo Diaz, Gem Mañosa, Gene Tamesis, Willy de Ocampo, Tech Alegre and Rhea’s sister, Donna Ferro and cousin, Gigi Eala –  to help her fight her battle against cancer.

battle-for-the-bags-flyer-a4.jpg

Rhea has had an eight year battle with breast cancer.  This year she was admitted in a treatment program at Stanford Cancer Center but to join that, she has to stay in the US for a year.  All funds raised will pay for her living expense while she is there

Most of the bags will be marked with fixed prices ranging from P 1,000.00 to P 2,500.00.  The very nice designer bags in good condition have starting prices from P 3,000 all the way up to P 40,000 and those will be the ones up for auction.  It will be a silent auction.  The bidding starts at 3pm and closes at  4:30pm and the winner can take home the bag that day.  According to Chary, they have almost every brand name, recent models and vintage ones.  It’s a great outlet for fashionistas because they will sell at less than half of retail.  It’s also a chance to get bags that are no longer being sold or those that do not retail in the Philippines.  Here are some of the bags

Combos Turkish Restaurant

By | Foodie | 3 Comments

Last year, Des told me about this Turkish place in Kalayaan.  Finally a few weeks ago, we had a chance to try it out!  We came early for dinner so it was still bright at 6pm

combos-turkish-restaurant-1.JPG

Here’s the owner, Mehmet 🙂  He was outside cooking the kebabs – the griller is right in front of the restaurant

It’s an open air restaurant.  Looks like two lots which he occupied

Our table which is called the Garden area – it is right in the middle of the restaurant

So happy to be with our good friends, Mart and Sam and Ned and Janet

The bar and the kitchen

More seating areas on the left side

combos-turkish-restaurant-14.JPG

There is an enclosed room which is airconditioned.  We found out later on that we could stay here and have airconditioning.   I highly recommend this 🙂  I believe that the outdoor seating is being used also for late night drinking and smoking

combos-turkish-restaurant-5.JPG

More outdoor seating to the right

I was ready and came with my fans 🙂

We ordered bottled water – and this came.  Hmmm…not sure if this is his bottled water in the menu or there was just no stock of bottled water.  I forgot to clarify that

Yummy cold Yogurt drink

The menu is very simple and is just one page

We ordered Meze for appetizers -4 kinds- they come in small portions so we ordered 2 of each kind – eggplant salad, hummus, Babagahnus and another one which was not in the menu – made of carrots as recommended by Mehmet

The homemade bread which came with it was very good – here are the 4 dips – those are small platters – it might look deceiving in the photo

The carrot dip

Mehmet recommended the Chicken drumstick as one of his specialties so we ordered one of that

 And the kebabs of course

There were several items on the menu not available like the shawarma which we were hoping to try.  Mehmet does everything himself.  There was a waitress but she could only serve and remove plates

The grill has a padlock to make sure it is not stolen – after all it is outside the house 🙂

 Mixed kebab

 Chicken Kebab on pasta

 Kebab on bread

This came with the kebab bread 🙂

Another order of Mixed kebab for us 🙂 I personally preferred the chicken over the beef

Homemade ice cream! There was no stock of Baklava that evening

Fresh White Asparagus from Germany

By | Foodie, Yummy! | 3 Comments

A few weeks ago when Mart arrived from Germany – he brought back for us Fresh white asparagus!!! Thank you Mart!!

Chef Javs cooked it for us and said that we did not need to have Hollandaise sauce, he just put this BBQ bacon salt which Lola Reggie gave to him

And true enough it was really good!! Heart2Heart now loves fresh white asparagus!!

Chef Javs is sneaky because he still kept some aside and ate it again the next evening when Papa and Mama were away.  He sent us a photo of what he made 🙂

Here it is – he wrapped Hobbs bacon around the asparagus – Wow!
