More Reasons to Come Back to Masseto

By | Foodie | One Comment

Heart2Heart was so happy to be back at Masseto!  I told Tippi that it is quite difficult for us to repeat restaurants since there are just so many to try out there, yet she always gives us reason to come back!

masseto.jpg

This time we were with our good friends, Gary and Alexie.  We were happy to take them as this was their first time to dine at Masseto.  They truly enjoyed their meal and will be back 🙂

I love this compliments from the Chef- James and I like to order more of these compliments 🙂  But seriously, it was really good!!  This should be on the menu!

We shared everything we ordered among the four of us.  I truly truly enjoyed everything we ordered including the new dishes on the menu!!!  The foie gras with chocolate sauce, the cheese soufflé, the pasta mentaiko, everything! I ordered the ribs just so I could have the blue cheese risotto 🙂  I added photos here of some dishes we did not have but are part of the menu

Resto Go Round at The Intercontinental Manila

By | Foodie, Hearty Deals | 2 Comments

I was so happy to hear that Janine Taylor who I met recently in Cebu, is now at the Intercontinental Manila!  Janine studied in Switzerland and she told me she is very meticulous and strict about everything.  She knows immediately when something is not right by just one look – whether it be the linens that are not ironed properly or the food that is not served right

They have a new promotion now at The Intercontinental called Resto Go Round

resto-go-round-at-the-intercontinental-manila-8.JPG

You get a great deal for P 1,800.00 which normally is the cost of only the Prime Rib from Prince Albert

resto-go-round-at-the-intercontinental-manila-1.jpg

You start out at Gambrinus which opens at 6pm and you get an appetizer platter

(Note:  Drinks are not included in the price )

You have to give your stub to the waiter for you to claim each meal from each restaurant so we tore off the Gambrinus coupon

resto-go-round-at-the-intercontinental-manila-12.JPG

Take your time and then you walk next door to Prince Albert.  This place brings back so many memories when we were kids.  We were always here – this was our favorite restaurant back then so it was nice to be back

I could not believe it but Francis, the maitre d of many years back is still there and looking very young!  Even younger than he was back then! 🙂  I told him.  Francis sends his regards to my Dad who he loves and remembers always.  Since my Dad is a regular reader of Heart2Heart I promised Francis I would send his regards and he also sent a message for Dad to come back and visit 🙂

We celebrated many special occasions in this private room

Prince Albert is also known for their Ceasar salad and they were one of the first ones to do on the spot Ceasar salad

Now time for our Prime rib which Francis is confident to say that it is still the best in the country 🙂

Since 1969 they have been serving Prime rib and this oven has been the same oven since back them – this is older than me by one year only so 44 years old!  WOW!!!

Yorkshire pudding made by a real Scottish Chef in the hotel and baked potato

James wanted the end cap of the rib so this was one of the ends

Mustard for those who preferred to have it

After that heavy meal 🙂  you can exercise and walk off a few calories and go to Jeepney Bar for the dessert buffet!

I focused on the one and only dessert that I love since way back then – their famous crepes samurai! Yum!! Behind that were fresh mangoes so I added more mangoes!!

Maria Luisa’s Garden Room at The Makati Garden Club

By | Foodie | 8 Comments

We heard about this new place from our brother, Mike!  So when we were looking for a place to eat, I suggested this to the girls.  Timmy Antonio first brought me to this place as her Mom, Ruby Diaz Roa, is an officer and an active member of the Makati Garden Club.  She told me that part of the proceeds which they get from the restaurant will go to the club

Cross the bridge

Towards this place – they used to sell furniture and accessories here before

And now they turned it into a French Cafe!!!

So nice and cozy -perfect for the “ladies who lunch” 🙂

Baltazar Artisan Breads – They have freshly made breads being sold there and at the same time being served with the dishes at the Cafe

The chef and owner of this place used to be the Chef in Savoy Bistro, Sandra Fernandez.    She was not there last Friday since she was out of town.  I have never been to Savoy Bistro but Des said it was good and since Mike and Gloria say it is good, I got excited and told the girls.

We were admiring the chandelier on top of our table which resembled a Capo de Monte style piece

Our table

Compliments

 with the bread basket 🙂

I am so glad we ordered plenty appetizers because I love appetizers! 🙂

Mussels ala Baltazar! Des said Savoy Bistro was known for this so we ordered it and they loved the mussels and I loved the sauce!! I just kept dipping my bread on the sauce!  YUM!!!

I made sure we ordered this – Baked Mushrooms – Fresh Shiitake, eggplant and raclette these

Cheese fondue –  3 cheeses with lots of sour dough bread

Yum!  I loved this because it’s not the usual packaged swiss fondue, it was homemade and it was not as strong – very light and very yummy!! They kept refilling the bread! 🙂

Luzanne making sure we scraped the cheese to the last drop!

Everything we ordered we shared equally so we can try as many dishes as we can

We had two salads which were both very good – Romaine salad

Salad de Maison

Scallop and Asparagus risotto!!! YUM!!! Thanks Lucille for ordering this!!

Gloria was there!!  Also lunching with her friends

She shared with us some of her Alaskan king crab claws – Yum!

Creme Brule to end.  We were hoping to have the Mango Crepe but it was not available that day

Enjoyed as usual with the Beautiful Friends Forever ( BFF ) group :-).  The more senior ladies at our back were so sweet – as they were leaving they told us that they were talking and watching us since we reminded them of themselves when they were our age and up to now they still get together to have lunch together.  And I told them we were looking at them and saying that we would be like them as we grow older 🙂

Our bill which came in a cute tray 🙂

Very convenient for Urdaneta Village residents, you do not have to go out the village, you can park near the gate and just walk it is right outside the gate

There are so many birthday celebrations in April! My Dad and Mom just joins us all together every year for our birthday celebration since we are all in April and one in May

I featured this table already before.  Mom had this made so we can all fit including the 3rd generation

Catered by Kai.  The majority of the family always prefers to have meals at home especially when we are a big group.  Sushi and Sashimi buffet for appetizer

This was my favorite – though it looks like unagi – half of it is foie gras sushi 🙂   YUM!

Flavors of the Visayas at the Mandarin Oriental from May 6 to 12

By | Foodie | No Comments

Heart2Heart was so happy to try the new feature at the Paseo Uno buffet.  What better to feature than our very own.  I wish they feature many other provinces so we can try the different cuisine from our country.  Why do we have to always be so colonial and think that imported is always better, when our very own has its own charm and unique qualities.  I am quite familiar with some of the dishes since my Dad’s family is from that region, so it feels like home to me in some way

Chef Javs Cooks for Papa’s Birthday

By | Celebrations, Foodie, For kids | 2 Comments

Lola Menchu and Javs had a good idea for Papa’s birthday!  Javier was to cook the entire dinner!  Javs loves cooking in Lola’s kicthen because he has the whole place to himself and Lola provides all the ingredients!  haha 🙂 They go shopping together all over the place- Rustan’s and Gourmet Garage

Here is the Chef in action wearing a Chef’s hat and apron! So cute!!

 chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-2.jpgchef-hat-bought-in-tuscany-by-the-market.jpg

It’s so hard to take his photo because he gets mad at me

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-3.JPGchef-javs-cooks-for-papa-05.jpgjavs-cooks-for-papa-01.jpg

Safari theme by Mom 🙂

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-03.jpg

It was a very very good dinner, we all loved the food from beginning til end.  One day he told us he will be the first to open the first Michelin star restaurant in the Philippines!  🙂

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-5.JPGchef-javs-cooks-for-papa-08.jpg

He has been cooking this several times already and I keep telling him to repeat so he can master the dish and true enough he is perfecting many of his dishes

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-4.JPG

I taught him this before which we tried from Cibo – but he did it differently, he put cheese inside the squash flower and it was really really good

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-02.jpg

This is one of his masterpieces and everyone loved!  Turkey which he brined overnight and cooked with maple syrup and goose fat!  That’s his own invention 🙂

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-07.jpg

Goose fat from Gourmet Garage Subic

Not to mention the Foie gras stuffing which he made!  YUM!!!!

Javs bought Kurobota pork at Rustan’s supermarket and he made it into Tonkatsu – it was very very good!

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-9.JPG

Lola Menchu and Javs went to Salcedo market to get the fresh crabs and seabass.  WOW!!

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-09.jpg

His leche flan is also very good- he used the egg yolks which he separated from the whites which he used for the sea bass

chef-javs-cooks-for-papa-1.JPG

Papa was very happy Chef Javs cooked for him!  It was a dinner made with love!
