Yellow Chicken Festival at Wee Nam Kee

By | Foodie | 2 Comments

It’s nice to be back at Wee Nam Kee!  It’s been two years since they opened their first branch in Ayala Triangle and two years later they have 6 branches and adding one more soon to make it 7

Previous entry:  Wee Nam Kee November 23, 2010

We visited their new branch in the new Glorietta 2, street level

Love birdcages

Linfred told us about the upcoming promotion for Wee Nam Kee which is the Yellow Hainan Chicken starting May 1.  The chicken will be flown in from Malaysia and will be available for a limited time only

He showed us the different kinds and colors of chicken, the brown one is the roast chicken, the white one is the regular hainanese chicken they serve and the yellow one which you will see is much bigger and the skin is thicker

We had other dishes as well .  Loved the Honey crispy squid!

Linfred wanted us to try one of their new dishes – the Marmite pork ribs

And the Seafood crispy noodles

yellow-chicken-at-wee-nam-kee-20.JPG

James had to order his regular pork dishes 🙂

yellow-chicken-at-wee-nam-kee-22.JPGyellow-chicken-at-wee-nam-kee-19.JPG

And we ordered one of each dessert dish! Linfred said he is very involved in the development of the desserts – they do not offer these in the mother franchise stores

First time to eat roti as a dessert.  I liked it!

This was my favorite of them all! 3 Flavor Chocolate Truffle Buchi! – Dark, Milk and White!

Oozing with chocolate!

Thank you to the Spoiled Mummy for a wonderful afternoon at Wildflour.  Grace updated me on her blog and she is gathering quite a number of followers who love to see her recipes, her discoveries and she told me she also likes writing about beauty products….after all, many are wondering what her beauty secrets are and she happily shares them 🙂

Finally I am able to try it out.  The place is a breath of fresh air even though it’s packed with people at 3 in the afternoon

Where all the pastries are baked fresh daily

I had not eaten lunch and saved my apetite for our merienda so I was the only one who ate! Grace just had her coffee

Nice to be back at the W to dine at the Goose station, The last time was Carmina’s birthday in 2010 when they had just opened

Previous entry:  The Goose Station March 23, 2010

Lolo Jun and Lola Menchu wanted to treat Jaime who was here on Spring break vacation.  Javier suggested the Goose Station though he could not join us that evening

Choice of Express Menu or Degustation

celebratingatthegoose4.jpgcelebratingatthegoose7.JPGcelebratingatthegoose8.JPG

This is my favorite way of having a meal – a little of everything, no buffet where you have to stand up several times, and you can have a peaceful and uninterrupted conversation with your companions.

We were five in the table and four of them chose Memory, I refused to have the same since I like to try as many dishes as possible.  So James and I shared with each other and we got to try all.  It was a wonderful dinner, Jaime of course enjoyed his brother’s recommendation.

Both degustations gets the same amuse bouche

Las Flores

By | Foodie | One Comment

This is Heart2Heart’s first time to try Las Flores

I like the bright, light and lively interiors of the place

My bestfriend Eds made sure I tried a cocktail since she knows I don’t really drink – but I truly enjoyed it

We had a wonderful lunch!!  Everything was delicious but my favorites were the croquetas, the chorizos, the salad and the Angus Foie Mini.  I kept asking the waiter to come back for more

lasflores-10.JPG

I am so embarrassed.  I approached the counter since I noticed a handsome 🙂 spanish guy who seemed to be orchestrating the lunch – and I asked him if he was the manager, he answers ” No, I am the owner.”  Oops!  It was Uri the owner of Las Flores 🙂

My seat mate Raoul whispered to me that there is also a cute Spanish Chef inside and true enough he comes out by the counter, so I was able to take his photo too 🙂

Dinner in Honor of Howard Schultz

By | Foodie, What's New at Starbucks? | 4 Comments

To end the day, a dinner was hosted by Lolo Benny in honor of Howard Schultz.  It was just family and the Starbucks Managers.  After dinner was a beautiful presentation by El Gamma Penumbra – the only Shadow Dancing company in the Philippines! What an amazing performance – Heart2Heart is proud to be PINOY! A MUST SEE VIDEO!!!  They had another performance which was Gangnam – though I preferred this first one

First time to have a filipino dinner prepared by Kai and it was very well done!! Thank you Chef Gilbert Pangilinan! I lost some photos so this is a mixture of photos from my cousins, Catherine and Marie and from Tita Tess.  Missing photo of the soup and the cornish hen adobo

Vask Modern Tapas & Gastronomic Cuisine

By | Foodie | 6 Comments

Heart2Heart received an invitation from Carlo Calma to come visit his new restaurant.  We immediately booked.  It’s located at the Clipp Center which is designed by Ed Calma, who is the cousin of Carlo.  You won’t miss this very modern and unique looking building in the Fort

clipp-center-by-ed-calma.jpg

You enter the car park and go to the 4th level and take the elevator to the 5th level where you are greeted by these beautiful ladies

vask-ladies.jpg

Beautiful interiors of course by Carlo Calma

dsc_9674.JPGdsc_9653.JPG

Here is Carlo Calma beside his artwork which is inside the restaurant – make sure to look for it

carlo-calma-interiors-of-vask.jpg

Here is another artwork- a lightbox by Francesca Balaguer Mercado which will be the first show/exhibit in Carlo’s gallery.  She used to work for David La Chapelle

dsc_9656.jpgdsc_9696.JPGdsc_9670.JPGdsc_9668.JPGdsc_9717.jpgdsc_9719.JPG

Congratulations to the owners of Vask who were there that evening -Carlo Calma, Jean Salonga Fernando and Jerico Salonga.  Congratulations also to my friend, Tessa Prieto Valdes who is also a partner!

vask-family-with-jerico-salonga-fernando-paula-angela-cortez-chele-gonzalez-jean-salonga-fernando-bryan-prieto-tessa-valdes-and-juan-carlo-calma.jpg

Chef Luis Gonzales -the man behind the very delicious food in Vask!  He is amazing!!! He apparently had worked in El Bulli.  He came to the Philippines and worked in Sofitel and now at Vask. I would say this is one of our most memorable meals

chef-luis-gonzales-at-vask.jpg

Vask has a Pintxos menu – the Basque equivalent of Tapas

dsc_9679.jpg

You will see them lined up in the bar

pintxos-at-vask.JPGdsc_9662.JPGdsc_9672.JPG

More pintxos photos which I got from their page.  I would love to go back and just have Pintxos and sangria 🙂

dsc_9681.jpg

Javier had the Lychee iced tea

dsc_9688.jpg

James had Vask – their signature drink

dsc_9689.JPG

Everyone gets Gambas as a complimentary dish

dsc_9741.JPG

We ordered  two pintxos to start – both were really very good

Tortilla de patata – Jamon – even the bread was so good

dsc_9730.JPG

Salmon and Crab tartare

dsc_9732.JPG

The menu is one page back and forth – one side is the Traditional and the other side is Modern Basque -I suggested to James and Javs that we try the Modern since we aways have the traditional elsewhere

dsc_9683.jpg

Jamon salad – I ordered this since I was curious to see what foie chips were 🙂

dsc_9745.JPG

Huevos, Hongos Y Cebolla – Wow!  What an interesting dish!  This has some molecular gastronomy cooking here

dsc_9748.JPG

Foie Gras on Mango Toast!  This was my favorite dish of them all.  A must try!  I have never tasted a foie made this way!!  It’s one of their bestsellers

dsc_9753.JPG

Crispy Shrimp – also very good though I wish Javier had ordered something more unique

dsc_9755.JPG

Kurobota Cheeks which Javier devoured!

dsc_9770.JPG

Scallops and Black Ink risotto

dsc_9772.JPG

Pollo En Pepitorio

dsc_9776.JPG

This is the Traditional menu which we did not order from except for the desserts

dsc_9685.JPG

This is the Txuleton which we saw from the other table- hoping to try this next time- one of their bestsellers too

chuleton-at-vask.JPG

We were already full from our food since we ordered so many dishes, but I am so glad James and Javier insisted on still trying the dessert.  I have not heard any raves about this dessert but I loved it.  It’s the Torija which is Brioche soaked in milk overnight then they fry it – It was so so good!

brioche-at-vask.JPG

Arroz con leche which was also very good

dsc_9785.JPG

The restaurant has an outside deck where you can enjoy your cocktails and tapas

205374_441473269264886_541005907_n.jpg

A beautiful view!  I also took note of the Miam Miam plate in the middle of the table

dsc_9699.JPGdsc_9704.JPG

Beside the restaurant is another dining area which is still closed but this is where they will have their fine dining and where they will serve degustation meals!  We will definitely be back and awaiting this!
