By | Celebrations, Foodie | No Comments

It’s always a special celebration when in Masseto

We had Bar M all to ourselves 🙂

Caviar upon request – just give advance notice to Chef Tippi

We can’t get enough of these truffle potato crisps – from kids to grandparents 🙂  We love Bar chow

I also ordered in advance my huevos rotos – yummy 🙂

Discovered this yummy dish that I like 🙂  It was already half eaten so it looks like this but it’s so good

All April birthday celebrants – 6 of us 🙂

The joint birthday cake which looks like it’s really for me haha!! 🙂 kidding

The traditional photo of Chef Tippi -you will see that every time, she’s looking younger and blooming every single time 🙂

Recess by Chef Chris

By | Foodie | No Comments

It’s so nice to see Chef Chris now closer to us in the city particularly in Makati.  The original is now more accessible.  Recess opened quietly a few months back and now they are in full swing including breakfast

I was so happy to see Scott Tan, part owner of Recess.  This was one of the secret projects of Scott when I was talking to him about a year ago and now it’s finally opened 🙂  This young bachelor is such a great businessman!  Everytime I see him I ask jim what’s new and true enough he is always cooking up something.  Scott is only 31 years old and he is so successful.  When I first met him in November 2012, he had 30 Bon Chons, now he has 78!  He;s opening his 2d and 3rd Ginza Bairin in a few months and has something new coming up in November.  Secret again for now but I am so excited.  Congratulations Scott!! and More Power!

Scott told me that he and his partners in this venture were school mates and their favourite part of the day was Recess 🙂

This building is owned by his family and Recess is on the ground floor

Good thing there is parking!!! It’s always so hard to park in Jupiter street, so having parking available is so valuable

As you enter, polaroid photos of diners who have been here

Lunch with Tita Thelma San Juan

By | Foodie | 2 Comments

I am so happy to see Tita Thelma San Juan, Lifestyle Editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.  Since I was a kid, my Mom would always tell me that she’s the big boss 🙂  Tita Thelma started with PDI since 1994 til 1999 when she moved to ABS CBN Publishing full time as the General Manager and Editorial Director and pioneered the magazine industry with Ernie Lopez.  The first was Metro Magazine and from there many others were born.  In 2008 she went back to PDI and now also has a magazine which she started 3 years ago called Cocoon.  Amazing woman and I am so honoured to be having lunch with her 🙂

Sunday Lunch by Gourmet Garage

By | Foodie | No Comments

It’s just so much easier to call Chef Booj to cater 🙂  We love Chef Booj!  We first met him when he was a consultant in Eskaya resort in Bohol.   After that the family liked him so we got him to cater for M Catering when he was partners with Chef Ed Quimson

Sakura by Edo San in Alphaland

By | Foodie | No Comments

We went to Alphaland to try out Sakura by Edo San.  This is supposedly for members only but if you call Chef Edo San he will accommodate you

Chef Edo San who is half Filipino ( Ilonggo ) and half Japanese
chef-edo-san.jpg

What looked like a centrepiece was actually Japanese Popcorn which you can eat

Edo San Maki

Uni

I love the presentation with the fish bowl under and a goldfish swimming in it!!

Aburi anything here is so yummy! Aburi Uni

Aburi Unagi

Special beef from Japan – Japanese Miyasaki Beef- supposedly even higher quality than Kobe beef.  Chef Edo San made sure I took a photo of the beef uncooked to see the marbling

Birthday Cake- Sushi Pizza for the birthday celebrant, James

We actually went to the branch in Alphaland Southgate Tower in Pasong Tamo before going to the newer one, Chef Edo San invited us to try the new place since he had complete ingredients there including sashimi that comes fresh.  So this was our first visit

sakura-by-edo-san-0512-2.JPG

Chef Edo San was also there
sakura-by-edo-san-0512-11.jpg

I like the place though it can get a bit stuffy and smoky because of the cooking being done and the private room feels deteriorated

All the Aburi sushi were really good!!!  Hotate/Scallops
