Dinner at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek

By | Accomodations, Travel | No Comments

Arrived in Dallas and had a wonderful dinner!!!

We were only 4 for dinner since James and Javier were still on their way.  So the whole table had the 4 course degustation and it was AMAZING!!!

We were back again the third night of our stay since Javier wanted to try what his brother Jaime was raving about.  We started earlier this time so it was still bright

Loved this flat bread with cheese

This time everyone had ala carte

King Crab Soup

Seared Foie Gras

Javier ordered many dishes from the degustation – Chilled Lobster

Dover Sole

From the degustation – Lamb Loin

Berkshire Pork

Vital Farms Chicken

Dry Aged Prime Rib Eye from the degustation

Truffle Mac and Cheese

No dessert anymore on the second night

But they have us this tray with cookies 🙂

Honesty in Action

By | Travel | No Comments

From San Francisco we went to Dallas.  We took two different flights.  James and Javier were together and when they got to their seat in the plane- there was no more space in the overhead cabin so the flight attendant said they had to check in the hand carry of James.  James had forgot that he put his wallet in the pocket of his hand carry but when he arrived in Dallas, he checked and his wallet was still there except for the cash 🙁   I promised my Mom I would share this story so that others may beware and be more mindful of their belongings.  So be very careful of your things in the plane even if it is in your seat and when you are sleeping or going to the bathroom

Another incident happened in CVS and Javier bought an iTunes card together with James’ purchase.  We had already gone inside the car to leave and we saw the cashier go outside to give us the iTunes card that Javier left on the counter.  We were so happy that the cashier was very honest and he even ran out to look for us to give us the card

And when I arrived, a Heart2Heart friend, JayJay shared with me her husband’s experience at Rustan’s Expresslane in San Antonio.  I wish there were more honest people like these

Marina Food in Foster City

By | Foodie, Travel | No Comments

Believe it or not but Dad and Mom wanted to go back to the city to have  Crustacean again for crabs for the third time!! I am telling you, we look like oysters and crabs already 🙂

Previous entry:  Crustacean San Francisco July 13, 2013

Good thing Pepe suggested something else! haha!!  He pointed us to Marina Plaza which is an Asian plaza.  It seems like the Asians are invading America!! 🙂  Maybe that is why there are many good Asian restos in the area!

marina-1.JPG

Pepe said to go to the Fresh Seafood section to buy the Dungeness crabs and just cook it yourself at home!  Good idea! 🙂  Apparently, everyone had the same idea! Long lines at the counter

 marina-7.JPG

marina-2.JPG

It’s around US$ 40.00 per crab at Thanh Long and Crustacean so maybe this plan will cost 1/4 of that though we don’t know the secret recipe of the House of An 🙂

marina-3.JPG

marina-4.JPG

While they were lining up, I cased the joint!  Tapa, Longganisa, Tocino!

marina-6.JPG

Aisles and aisles of Asian grocery stuff

marina-9.JPG

Each aisle is separated by country

Japanese

marina-10.jpg

Wow! there is a Yakult light??  How come we do not have this here?

marina-11.JPG

Yipee!! Filipino!! ( although spelled wrong )

marina-8.JPG

marina-12.jpg

And there are generic grocery categories – the snack and confection aisle!

marina-13.jpg

Lots of mochi

Asians love rice!  Spotted this rice section selling all kinds of rice

marina-17.JPG

And all kinds of rice cookers!  I feel so at home here! 🙂

marina-18.JPG

They had a big ready to go section of prepared asian food – I was not able to take a photo

Mom wanted to take us to a French restaurant in the area but forgot the name so we walked around trying to look for it nearby!  We could not find it.  Finally we entered a hotel to ask the concierge and he gave two places – we went to the nearby one since we were already very hungry 🙂  Around 3 blocks down was the Monaco hotel

We went to their coffeeshop

The food was very good!! We had soup and sandwiches.  If you are in the area and want a good snack, this is a good place to go 🙂

Oysters!

Mokutanya Yakitori Charcoal Grill & Ramen

By | Foodie, Travel | No Comments

A new Yakitori restaurant in Burlingame

Glass partitioned rooms and you sit on the floor 🙂

A small hole showing the kitchen where they are cooking the yakitori

Compliments

They had a promo – if you check in in Facebook – you get a free drink

or appetizer, so we all ( those with facebook accounts ) checked in 🙂

It was a Monday!! Woohoo!  Take note of the Exotic meat!

mokutanya.jpg

Yakitori is not cheap, you pay by the stick 🙂 But we love yakitori!

They have a checklist too.  I suggest you order as many as you can already because when you order additional it takes quite some time to get it

Salmon

Kurobota sausage

Bacon cherry tomato

Chicken Skin

Wagyu Beef

Bacon Asparagus

Pork Belly

Lamb

Bacon Enoki Mushrooms

Anago – Sea Water Eel

Javier ordered Ramen 🙂

Crustacean San Francisco

By | Foodie, Travel | One Comment

Once was not enough, in fact we always went for a third!  But this time we were able to get reservations at Crustacean which we actually prefer

Previous entry:  Thanh Long July 10, 2013

Crustacean Beverly Hills March 25, 2011

The ambience is a bit better and it is more peaceful 🙂

Our table by the window

Same appetisers 🙂

Plus more which was also very good!

Seafood Dumpling

Crispy Vietnamese Rolls

I just realized that I never took a photo of the crab opened! I guess because everyones hands get soaked in the yummy sauce and I cannot take a photo anymore

They had different desserts here from Thanh Long though we were full already since we had so much appetisers 🙂
